- Porsche Penske Motorsport became victorious at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2024, but how did they win it? Especially considering that the battle between Nasr and Blomqvist in a 24 hour event, came down to a 30 minute showdown between two incredible drivers and manufactures. This is a full breakdown on how Porsche Penske won Daytona in 2024.

This is the momentum Porsche needed.
Let's see how BoP treats the whole field in the future
They have been on a slightly different fuel strategy. At last pit stop, Nasr had more fuel, so he stayed 3 sec less to refuel. That brought them the win. Well deserved for Porsche. Well done.
Jumping into the lead at the pit stop was brilliant strategy. The Caddy is FAST. This is a team game and our team outwitted the Caddy and held on with flawless driving from Felipe Nasr who showed immense grace under the unending pressure of a hard charging Tom Blomqvist, one of the best final stint racers in IMSA. Felipe was better this time.
Tom may have closed the gap if the checkers didn’t wave a lap too early.
@@zanezolnowski8186 Tom is incredibly talented, but I think he was a little too far back
@@zanezolnowski8186 Tom had many laps to get past Nasr before the checkered flag but he never got past the porsche so what makes you think he will do it on the last lap when he had multiple laps to close the gap and pass before the final lap
@OscarZheng50 he never said he would pass him, he my just closed the gap further down
Best endurance racing content on UA-cam!
Thank you! Means a lot to hear those words!
@@FormulaJonah You like a mulsanecorner of youtube.
I knew that Porsche Penske would won because they had a strong driver lineup and I am extremely happy to see that Porsche are back winning ways. Now they need to win Le Mans in June as
As a Porsche fan I am happy with the win but I was nervous seeing the Cadillac getting better as the sun came up and the track warming up. The only way I saw them winning was either at the last pitstop or a late caution and they get the jump on the restart. I guess technically both happened.
I was there live and me and my dad and I noticed the 31 Cadillac slowdown at the horseshoe corner, so either traffic got really bad or out of fuel.
Still, it was great watching both Cadillac and Porsche fighting.
4:50 - *BMW Engineers:* _“Whoa, whoa, whoa! We were supposed to build a car that DOESN’T break down!?”_ 🤯
this must be the most intense rolex 24 ever
That last hour of Nasr v Blomqvist was one of the best battles I’ve ever seen in any form of motorsport.
waving the checkers a lap early probably helped the Porsche although the Cadillac may not have been able to pass
@@teamredgutz399 this reminds me of the petit le mans last year with that cadillac and acura battle on the final hours of the race
@@jacobkristofferjantonio7669 that one had a rather brutal ending

Excellent race and had me worried there at the end...go Porsche!!
I think I remember hearing that caddy sort of took a gamble, and unfortunately for them the lexus fire completely screwed up that strategy they tried. On the second to last pit stop they short fueld, which helped them get out ahead of porsche and get a good comfortable gap around the 1 hour-1.30 hour mark. However they really needed that gap, as since they short fueled the previous stop, that meant they would have to spend longer fueling during the next stop than the porsche who had more fuel in the tank. Since the FCY came out it completely destroyed the advantage the caddy had, and now put them at a disadvantage. They'd have to take longer to fuel, and the porsche was right on their tail. That slight fueling time advantage allowed porsche to jump caddy in the pits and the rest is history. It really is a tale as classic as racing itself. Sometimes you gamble and it pays off, other times you just get dealt a bad hand.
Love to see Porsche winning in prototype again! 👍😁
6:50 I saw that live on track man that was excellent racing 😮😮
Thanks FJ, this race is how endurance racing should be. And you are right, in 24hr races the whole team plays a significant role.
Fantastic video. Great race. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much, and will do!
Nice video!
This was the first time I ever watched the Rolex 24, or really any endurance race live, for that matter. The way the Caddi's were seemingly dominating before I went to bed, only to wake up to all 4 Porsches right behind one another with Cadillac having to defend had me shook. I was expecting the 963's to be fairly underwhelming, so the way they ran that race was surprising to say the least. The reliability of those things is really just crazy compared to the other cars. And honestly, I think that last hour FCY made the race even better than it otherwise might have been, forcing much harder and closer racing for each class leaders. I also personally think that Aitken was kept out a bit longer than he should have, because it seemed like as his stint went on, he was getting slower and slower. But regardless, the race overall was insanely good stuff to watch, and while there was some questionable driving at times, the driving was absolutely incredible all around.
I´m a big Porsche Fan and the last hour was exciting and nail biting the battle was great and Porsche safed the 19 Daytona Win overall, your videos are great greetings from germany 😀👍
I got to be there this year. That last hour was absolutely riveting. I had a feeling Porsche would win this time considering their performance in qualifying and noted improvements in performance overnight in past examples for turbocharged cars like them and the Acura. I didn't expect the finish to be this close.
The early ending was definitely confusing. I was getting my phone out with what I expected to be two laps to go so I could record the final lap and looking at to flag stand to prepare when I noticed the white flag was out. That's definitely going to be a situation to remember. Points to Nasr for keeping it going full speed for one more lap after that checkered just in case.
Looking forward to the rest of the season and how the other cars will be doing in WEC.
7 car led a majority of the evening and night portion of the 24 at Daytona. Not sure what happened in the morning g part, but pit crew and drivers worked their way up for the win. Awesome race!
I was there my first race in person and my fav team Acura 10, broke down but had a great time
That #40 Acura really looks stunning in that color.
Its amazing how todays endurance races, especially the 12 and 24 hours races are only 1-2 seconds difference at the finish! Wow.
I dont know if you know or if its my audio setup, but you sound so similar to this one person named 'Ellis' from the MKBHD podcast channel. But i love this channel for the motorsport, and more specifically the endurance racing content!
Hope to see this grow!
Porsche has a habit of winning in every championship they enter, WEC (GTE, LMP1), WRC are some of them, They are just so good at what they do, They're so successful to the point where they don't need to in Formula One to be famous and to be successful. I really do wish that someday they enter formula 1
Solid breakdown.
Thank you!
Fantastic race! Love those 24h races and seeing Porsche on top is nice. A "short" (starting 2 laps) clip from Kevin Estre and his Porsche 911 GT3 R on the Nürburgring 24h 2021 - Porsche is still winning 24h races around the world.
It was a thrilling finish to the race. We were so happy we were there. And sitting in Porschehaus hospitality it was such a thrill, willing our team to the checked flag.
I almost cried 2 times this year but in a good way and you can say that I am the emotional type, firstly at the Rolex 24 and then at the 12h Bathurst a few days ago. Sebring here we come >> love you Porsche
I feel quite bad about having missed the race due to other plans I had for that weekend, but I feel great about Porsche winning at Daytona. This is great justification for manufacturers investing in LMDH machines.
I was definitely happy, especially seeing my favorite driver drive across the finish line :)
You do a great job with your channel. What's happening with 911
Was there Thursday to Sunday ! Great experience! Porsches seemed really strong in the night . Went back to the track Sunday around 10. Warming track but overcast weather with cool wind. Porsche was in lead but had to drive back to Tampa. Missed the overtake by Blomquist! ( thank god). Hopefully Sebring is cold ( it won’t be)😂those Cadillacs are fasssst!
I’m still new to imsa but why didn’t Cadillac bring out the blue No. 2 car?
With the WEC race in Qatar coming soon, Chip Ganassi Cadillac choose to prioritize their Blue Cadillac for Qatar and focus on their yellow Cadillac entry in IMSA. I made a recent video all about it if you wish to check that out: ua-cam.com/video/RMWzvFFu7Ys/v-deo.htmlsi=R5rB568RzAShx1AJ
@@FormulaJonahthank you👍👍
@MV.1275 No problem!
it run for wec
It seems forced induction engines don't relatively perform well during the day when the air temperature is high than the chilled air of nightime. The 963 perfomed well at Fuji in the WEC. It held the lead from Toyota for a good part of the race. Guess the weather? It was cool.
Happy to see our local QLD lad at the top again. Bathurst and Daytona! Go Mat👏👍
King os the Track & Road!
The faster stop of the Porsche was also because of the 3 laps difference between the 31 and the 7 on the stop before the FCY. So the 7 had less fuel to put in
Well done! The flag situation royally ruined the end for me.
Porsche is the best forever.
but after than cadillac👑 cadillac is the statue symbol
Next up: Le Mans.
Yes!
12 hours of Sebring in March
@@zanezolnowski8186 Eh Porsche is more interested in scoring a Le Mans victory.
I was rooting for Porsche, but thought the Cadillac was going to get them. Great race.
19 Wins: 24h Daytona
19 Wins: 24h Le Mans
The king only 2 victories away from marking history.
PORSCHE the name obliges 👍👍👍👍👍💪💪💪👏👏👏
i can't tell you how painful it is to root for Caddy since the new era, they always seem to fail to close it out when they have the chance to...
Nasr raced the race of his life. The 963 was just faster on the straights barely enough to keep the lead......Also happy Rexy came in second in GT
An historic.
Nice fix. Those mandatory advantages where reason they won not pit stop, lets get real. lol.
Porsche 919 Evo would be proud of the 963
Did the Penske team legitimately win or is it more shenanigans wouldn't be the first time
Yeah, it's a fair fight. 4 vs 2.
The cars in the 80's and 90's had much better colors.
was ferrari not there? why??
Porsche won, Penske is just another contractor.
Thanks for the SPOILER, man. Why, why, why? Some of us watch the race on UA-cam, so we can watch the whole 24 hours (without coffee or drugs). I was less than halfway through - watching on the Roku - and hit the pause button, at which point some thumbnails appear at the bottom... and I see PORSCHE IS VICTORIOUS. F890. Go ahead and give some highlights and analysis and all -- that's well and good -- but WITHOUT THE SPOILERS. C'mon, work with me here.
I didn’t post any spoilers to this race until a few days after the full Daytona race was posted to the official IMSA UA-cam channel, which I also provided links beforehand incase there was anyone who missed watching it live. I am not really sure what else could’ve have been done considering all the time I gave, UA-cam’s algorithm, and with this being a channel that covers the latest news around endurance racing.
I am of course still truly sorry this video spoiled it for you though! All I can do is give my apologies.
@@FormulaJonah Nah, it's no big thing. The spoiler was (I guess) an artifact of the way the Roku UA-cam viewer shows thumbnails when you hit the Pause button -- it happened to show a thumbnail of the splash screen from this video, hence "Porsche Is Victorious." If it were that important, I could have just downloaded the four parts of IMSA's coverage (I use an app that talks to UA-cam's API to download a video file -- big files, but I do that if there's something I really want to save, so that even if they take it down, I've still got it). No big deal -- I'll even subscribe to your channel!
Even though their car was Not the fastest
Porsche can only win without Toyota's presence😂....
Toyota can barely win when they're racing against themselves, calm down.

@@themidnighttavern6784Toyota won 2023 WEC, so no. They can win.
Mate with Porsche and Audi in the mix Toyota didn’t win a single time in endurance racing history. And Porsche’s history in endurance racing is unbeatable. I mean just look at the lmp1 races as pointed above in the comment
@@vvevvevvvv I'm stunned people still don't get humor on the Internet.
No, no I'm not happy to see Porsche win ANYTHING
Why?
Why fans continue to think this is a “race” is beyond me. Entertaining, sure, but racing? Please . But 3h40m of yellows?. Full course yellow for an engine cover coming off? Why? Regardless of the most minor reason for the full course yellow, here come the blowers and vacuums, lord knows how many laps to “gather” the classes…pass arounds, pits closed.
Teams’ strategies? Please, not with the ridiculous full course cautions. IMSA gets what it wants, a close finish. But it’s contrived and gotten annoying for those of us who remember real racing….yellow comes out! Dive into the pits. At green, behind five GT Pro and 8 GT Am? Too bad. Yep, contrived ending.
Because its literally a race. For 24 hours. Your just mad at people enjoying something you hate for no reason. Cry about it
...It's literally a race, no matter what rulebook.
They won just like Max Vestappen did in 2021. Make the race shorter and not give the car that was leading the whole race a chance.
that is just a blatant lie.
That's some sour grapes
that's quite the big stretch if i say so
I would have liked to see what happened if they ran one more lap but the Porsche did seem to maintain the gap between them.
@@zilentzapAbsolutely not a lie. When you consider that the green flag dropped two minutes late and the race ended after 23 hours then……………
