- I end up picking up a 1992 Kawasaki kdx 200 up near Milwaukee.It is probably the cleanest bike I've ever bought that was more than 20 years old.

No no it's a coolant overflow don't put oil in it dude lol and if you always use the choke of a 2stroke on the first start of the day it will usually start easier and don't twist the throttle till she starts
Luke Combs lmao I bought this same bike new back In 92 went to pick it up and they prepped bike and filled the coolant overflow with oil. Smh I had to argue with salesman that it was not the oil injection tank. After he found out I was right I refused bike and made them prep me another bike..
One thing I like about you and your channel is that you don’t care if the bike is new or 30 years old. I like it because those few who does videos about little bit older bikes for the most part doesn’t make very good quality videos. And the ones who does good quality videos mostly does videos about newer bikes. And I’m that kinda person who likes a little bit older bikes. So by this I mean keep up the good work and don’t stop making videos about older bikes.

And btw that tank by the back fender is the coolant reservoir, the coolant goes to when the bike gets hot, instead of dripping out of the radiators. 👍👍

I think that is the coolant overflow, not oil. I could be wrong. That is an aftermarket kick stand too. Looks like you got a good deal!
It's unusal to see one at all. They usually vibrate off and become part of the trail...
I hope you do know, it is a two-stroke!! the bottle is for anti-freeze, NOT oil!!! Mix oil in the gas, or it will blow-up!!

I found this air box system that came off of a 1998 kdx200 on ebay but it says it can also fit a
1984 kdx200.
I have an 84 kdx200. Just did a top and bottom end rebuild on it. Had it out for a couple hours today. Great bikes.

Wow, is that Paget Brewster in the beginning? Also that bottle behind the left side panel is not for oil, its the coolant overflow. The bike runs 32:1 pre-mix.

What weight do you set your suspension at? How much do you weigh?
You know you can heat treat those dents out of the pipe with compressed air. You Seal off the ends and fill it with about 40-50psi and use a blow torch and you should be able to get the dents out. As long as they're not too badly dented.

Great find. I own a 2004 KDX 200. The rattle that you hear after you let off the throttle is normal for the kdx. It's the kips making the noise. Great video 👍
Is that what that is. I thought it was a Kawasaki 2T thing. To me (ear), it sounds as if it had like bad rings. Not saying it does, but as if.

The damage on the swing arm is from throwing a chain or chain snapping. The plug in looks like a power lead extension for another accessory like heated grips. Good price but patiently awaiting a compression tester...

I can promise that you can disregard all the comments saying that your piston is clapped. Out of all 4 kdxs that I’ve owned, every single one rattles like that. A power valve clean will temporarily fix that ticking, but best believe it’ll be back in a few days. It always sounds wayyy worse on camera

Why do KDX rattle so much from the engine compared to other bikes. to me sounds like piston/rings are done. My uncle has one and it sounds the same.

@@WillBilly. the kdx is a great bike, they last forever, woods/trail bikes that can keep up with other bikes no problems. The suspension plays well in their environment. It's not a racing bike but has plenty of speed to put a smile on many faces. It's an Enduro. Not everybody does Motocross. However, I've seen these bikes on tracks. Very reliable! I own 2 of them and I've owned over 30+ bikes including the 500s and KDX will always be one of my favorite bikes. You can always update your performance too.

@@cashm4705 We bought a 93 KDX from a super wealthy guy. He told us that he had just serviced the bike and had no oil. Turned out that he screwed us over because the oil and water were mixing and he suckered us into pretending to be the super clean workshop guy. We picked up the busted bike from his mansion only to realize that he had screwed us. Anyhow, I guess the wheel turns because I heard he broke his back in an accident a few months later. Still, he sold us a moneypit and it was rather upsetting considering we were poor at the time.

That is a coolant overflow bottle if that kid decides to put oil in it he is going to blow that motor he might not have very long with it anyway because it sounds like d wrist pin bearings is blown too. But if he decides to throw oil in that coolant overflow bottle he is going to blow it up for sure. LOL why do people do that all the time just a little bit of research on the bike 10 seconds and you immediately know what that is they've never seen the coolant overflow bottle in a car before? That's a 1990's trail bike. they didn't have fans for the radiators back then and furthermore, it doesn't have fuel injection or oil injection. So what the hell would that oil be for, and why is it green? but still, people put oil in those coolant overflow bottles all the time! It's crazy to me LOL. I hope he's joking for the bikes sake, cuz that is a pretty clean bike and he might just need to do a top end on it and it'll be fine because it does smoke good and it really only sounds like a wrist pin bearing. Because it's an old bike you know

i think in the back of the bike is not oil but coolant reserve in case of bike overheat i know that some kawasaki 2t have that coolant reserve.

No it is for 2 cycle oil there is an oil pump that mixes the gas as it ensures the combustion chamber with straight gasoline from the tank

That tank is NOT oil under the rear fender. That is a coolant tank. KDXs do not have oil injection. 32:1 premix in the tank.

You know how many KDX220s I've seen with that problem the bike gets brought over and guess what the person ended up putting oil in a coolant overflow catch can. More than likely he'll do it too let's hope not though cuz he won't have to worry about that wristpin bearing. he's going to blow the motor. What is it with these kids they don't look at their cars & see coolant overflow bottles ? it's the same thing as a car and furthermore they didn't have that technology in 1992 for a dirt bike. So they are just jumping 2 oh oil injection. It's just crazy to me because it's 1992!! they didn't have oil injection or fuel injection for dirt bikes in 1992. LOL. I don't get it. But I do see it all the time. To me it's so obvious that , that is green fluid coming out of that bottle! oil is not green! Coolant is!!! I just hate to see you such a stupid problem be done over and over again. just ten seconds of research and a little common sense and you would know not to do something like that but people do it all the time I don't know I hope they figure it out I hope they do not put oil in that coolant catch can bottle I hate to see them take what is a pretty decent buy and destroy it. @@landof6377 and my main point was, that is a coolant overflow bottle. They also had oil injection on snowmobiles and fuel injection on snowmobiles and they were two strokes as well. So I know it's been around since forever it just hasn't been on a dirt bike till recently. And the KDX220 and the kdx200 has a coolant overflow bottle there is definitely no oil injection on dirt bikes until recently

The bike is not oil injected the plastic thing in the back behind thew back plate is a coolant overflow reservoir for when the bike starts to heat up it goes back there or it works where you have to much coolant and it puts more in if you start to run low

That's a pretty good deal I got one in similar shape for 1000 it didn't have any oil in it for whatever reason but we put oil in it and it's been fine ever since
My buddy Dariush Donyavi won a NETRA C championship on one of these. One of the most capable woods bikes going. I’m a diehard Honda guy, but would have been all over this deal. Nice score.

This will thrash the cr if it's running good we had kdx 125 kdx 200 and kmx 125,s in UK which all came Road registered in the 90,s kmx were flat but kdx,s were rapid especially the 200
2stroke mx classics I m sure they will race Id think the kdx has different gear ratios than a moto version for a bit more top end

Ooh, I got a 92 as well and it still rips better than most bikes I’ve ridden. That reservoir in the back is your coolant overflow. If you see oil in there, the guy before you probably thought it was oil injected. But it is NOT! So check your piston 😂 have fun with that power and. After 5th it starts to die off

Yes that is a coolant bottle. Also the ticking sound is from the KIPS exhaust valve. they make that sound after about 20 hours of riding. the sound only develops once the KIPS valve starts to get gummed up.

You should repair the dent & polish the pipe it would look so good !!
The ticking sound is the power valve. the only time you wont hear that sound from a KDX is about 4 hours after the KIPS valve is cleaned. It is completely normal and wont hurt the bike.
You have nothing to worry about if the kid decides to put oil in the coolant overflow bottle. Because the motor is going to blow anyway. I don't know why but for some reason people do this with these Kawasakis all the time. You don't know how many KDX is I've seen with oil in the coolant overflow bottle. I'm just curious what makes people think that a 1990 motorcycle comes equipped with oil injection & or Fuel injection? But it happens all the time. Anyway to me that sounds like a wrist pin bearing not a terribly difficult fix anyway maybe it is the Kip's valve but I've never heard one that noisy.
Its the KIPS valve. my KDX made the same sound that disappeared after I cleaned the valve assembly. Look up KIPS rattle on a website called kdxrider.net It comes with the territory of owning a KDX you can even search youtube for kips rattle. @@joshf8097

So let's hope he gets at least one of these messages so he knows not to put oil in the coolant overflow bottle. Because by the looks of it that is a beautiful bike for the money

That bladder at the back under the fender isnt for oil its for coolant so the engine doesnt over heat. DONT run that bike with oil in that bladder it will ruin it badly
