- This is the first of a cppl of clips that i will post from the BuddyRich tribute concert that i did with the Royal College of Music BigBand in London.
it was such a joy to play this material and i hope you have fun checking it out too.

Hey Benny Greb, what main ride cymbal and crash cymbal did you use for this concert?
What Buddy Rich always supported the most were indivudual Players who kept true to their own styles (he was a strong supporter of Steve Gadd), and thats what you did on this! Hell yeah man, lovin' it!
I have been listening you for 10 years here.
I do not rank drummers as best or worst; I just enjoy your work over any other.
I still listen to Chris Coleman and Simon Phillips, to Aaron Spears and Dennis Chambers.
But prefer to listen to you.
Keep doing what you do and feel free to grow.

When I saw and heard BENNY GREB play for the first time. It really blew my mind. I hadn’t seen anything like that ever before in my life and I didn’t understand anything he was doing. But I understood that I really really like this. ❤️ lol

Same here, when my 13 year old self saw hin in Münster Germany, I was blown away. Just another level of musicallity and groove...
i love how benny still kept with his signature drum sounds rather than some crazy high tunings...
However, some higher tunings and higher pitched cymbals, particularly the ride, may have cut through a bit better. No argument 'cuz I loved this....just an observation.
@@hawkrider88 Maybe a little higher, but I think that with considerably higher tuning in a big band setting, the articulation gets lost. Normally small ensemble jazz is higher tuning, and big band is a little lower.

Benny is incredible. It’s just a pleasure to see and hear him play... the feel he has is just mindblowing
I don’t think I’ve ever heard a drummer with a better feel and approach than this. He plays perfect without sounding robotic, in the pocket while shining and playing complex sticking, and constantly changes the approach to the same groove as if the previous beat was just a lapse in time until the next one came to mind. A+ playing

From 1:47 to 2:18 he put on CLINIC!!!!!!! From everything to when he switched up the groove, kept the snare hits constant with the trumpets, took out the kick in certain, etc. Just pure genius! Sure the musicians in this band love playing with you lol.

This is amazing to see: two different player styles merged into one. Two different techniques, mindsets, eras and music. To play in such a big band concert, filling Buddy's shoes must be one a huge honor. Great job Benny.
No one feels the music and expresses his emotions and feel through the kit like Benny. Such a world class musician. I can watch him play for days. His creativity, originality, technique, dynamics, chops, groove and stick control is unmatched.

Out of all the drummers (and there are quite a few great ones!) who try and play the Buddy Rich charts, you sir really do this justice! I saw Mr. Rich perform dozens of times and always left me in awe. He would be very proud and impressed with this rendition in your own great style. Wonderful Mr. Greb.

The Mercy mercy album changed my life back in junior high in the late 90's. The guy was a genuine master, and Neil's burning for buddy project was such a beautiful celebration of man's career that will forever impact the way we play drums, much like this performance. Thanks for honoring him on stage, I'm have no doubt he would have only yelled at you a little about coping all Gregg Bissonette's best licks haha

I’m flabbergasted .........I saw Buddy Rich live in 1983 ... even met him ..autograph ...shook his hand ....I wanted to burn my sticks ...It hurts me now that I never embraced jazz like I should of . I was playing the club Circuit. Big clubs small clubs holiday Inns....you know....but seeing this .....God I think I’m hooked !!! You are phenomenal my friend ...Thank You !!
