Trabant 601 Curtea de Arges Romania 25/03/2012

In 2012 you could still come across quite a lot of interesting socialist cars used daily. The Trabant has always been one of my favourites, since I saw my very first one parked in Graz, Austria in September 1986. That one had Hungarian plates.
My father in law's first private car was a Trabant 601, like this one, but white.

🤩Well, such cars are legends! Gottschalk and his "Trabbi Goes to Hollywood", Mr. Bean or Austin Powers with their Mini Coopers, Herbie "the love bug" then, Romanians have their national legend "Dacia 500" nicknamed "Lăstun” (”Martin” or the Latin name Delichon urbicum) and, of course, the dearest of them all.... la Bianchina. I saw once the last minutes of a documentary about Trabant or GDR, I think there are a lot of good stories about this car in ex-GDR... and not only.

@@Cristake1974 my father in law's first private car was a Trabant, bought second hand in Bucharest, because cars from the capital were always in better condition than the ones in Muntenia. He bought it in 1978 and kept it until 1982 when he changed it for his first Dacia 1300, another ex Bucarest car. Before the Trabant he was using the Aro M461 freight taxi "Taxi Marfă" he was issued with as a driver of the local IGO company "Întreprindere Gospodărească Orășenească" or City Services Company. He's still working as a taxi driver, several Dacias l(he's lost count of how many 1310s he's gone through) and two Logans later. Nowadays he drives a Dacia Sandero Stepway. He became an independent taxi driver in 1991.
He's told me several stories about the Trabant.
