Minimalism is bae! Helps keep my Chi in perfect flow. I'm a lady, so I like my girlie things, but I also value quality pieces. So a chic minimalistic approach works very well for me. Divorcing consumerism has done wonders!
I’m to a point now that I have no desire to own “things.” I don’t understand why people give away their lives working just to have more things. It makes no sense to me. I’d rather travel, learn, experience life.
I think you should have this talk at least once a year for all the new subscribers and to remind us old subs! You are an inspiration to many of us and this video let's us see that a better life is out there and reachable! Thanks Tim.
More money, more problems after the necessities are covered. Once we start lusting for anything, we're constantly day dreaming losing our peaceful state of mind for sure, Tim, great points as usual!
I did the same at thrift stores. I actually got ticked off because I had really expensive furniture and electronics that the thrift stores didn't even want. It made me realize that most people don't even want your stuff and its worthless unless its brand new or fully restored. Most people want brand new furniture and electronics. It really fueled the fire and opened my eyes to how consumerist and "throw it away, don't maintain or fix it" culture we live in.
October 31st 2023 marks the 1st day of my minimalism journey. I just sat in my living room in my tiny one-bedroom apartment feeling suffocated by all the stuff I had that I wasn't using or getting enjoyment from. The world wide web is psychic, so here came your video on minimalism. I can't even begin to explain the joy I felt in my heart watching this video. I have a lot more stuff to get rid of, but I'm already feeling blessed. Side note: I've even burdened my mom by having some of my stuff at her house. Unburdening her this week. Blessings to you my minimalist friend!
I have, for me, so much they once person doesn't need. Emotionally, I've struggled for 20+ years to have a home. This meant moving every two years.....have been laid off from 5 full time jobs..., emotionally tired, and realize the broken relationships and efforts to secure adulthood financially safe have been a total failure. All that is left is to say goodbye to my idea of who I am, was, and my few things, and somehow just live from a vehicle. If I can. I know being alone is scary....being alone in my old CRV could be scarier. I loved your video
I can truly say that financial abundance has transformed my life in so many ways for the better. The Universe is expansive so don't be afraid to experience it.
Minimalism is the way to a happier life. Possessions are just burdens, for us or eventually for our heirs. Most of my neighbors cannot park in their garages because the garages are full of stuff they never use. Think about it: All that stuff used to be money. All that money used to be time. All wasted. For those who want to live without a fixed base, google "where RVers get their mail" for ways to have a permanent mailbox that's not assigned to a residence. The world is changing and it's easier than ever to be a nomad.
I cant find the words but I am very thankful for this video. I believe it will be an inspiration for many to hear. I appreciate you Timothy. Love this video! Keep sharing this story ! I am glad you have this platform as it seems so natural for you to communicate in this way. You are easy to listen to - a great communicator.
Its a new mindset for me. I won't buy a real book to hold, I buy it on my kindle n movies too on Vudu or other digital formats that I can have where ever I go, don't need to lug all that with me. Some of my music is with me too but I need to work on that more. I dont need multiplys of things. Its an ongoing process, never ending.
You are really inspiring me. I put all my stuff in storage and went to Berlin over 20 years ago. It was very rough, but it was the best thing I ever did. I grew more in 4 months in Berlin than I would have grown in 5 years staying at home. I'm currently plotting doing this again. I feel stuck in the city where I live, like you said in this video, you had done Gainesville long enough... I am thinking about England, but I'm not sure where. Thanks for inspiring me to not give up on my dreams.--- Living out of a suitcase is the most freeing thing you can do. It really is all you need.
Hi Tim keep up the good work when you get to that retirement age you will be set that’s what I need to do get rid of my stuff it’s wearing me down too thanks love your videos 👍🤗
It seems like a lot of people look down on you when you have this “frugal” mentality. Money is everything to people they go crazy if they don’t have money. As you mentioned, people have all these possessions like nice apartments, cars, etc.. but they’re in debt.. I don’t want possessions if I have to be in debt because in reality most people obtain these things to fill a void or to fit into society. I’m currently trying to become more frugal and not let money run my life. However, it truly feels like everyone I know worships money and I’m insane for not doing the same. I am now learning to trust in God and let him guide me and the way I run my finances. ❤
Man the thing you said about drinking spoke to me. Thanks for being honest. I struggle with smoking to much weed!!! Bless you. Love your videos and perspective on life.
Congratulations on not drinking. That's a big thing. You should be very proud of yourself. I never was a drinker or smoker so I bet you feel better in more than one way. And, I'm a newbie to your channel and really enjoy your videos. TYVM. TC Safe travels. 🌹
I enjoyed listening to you talking about how you are creating such an interesting evolutionary life for yourself....AWESOMENESS!!! ..... I have always had less than many people. I spent many years moving around because I was. Solider . The government hired packers and movers BUT I ALWAYS had this weird feeling about having a bunch of stuff that would likely get broke . MOSTLY, I COULD feel “settled” I was always subconsciously wondering when the Army would move me some place else I didn’t want to be 😁 I’m now in a PAID for house feeling like this is a bore and there must be more to life than this ...im in the Houston area and I haven’t been feeling it for about 4 YEARS!!!! I’m decluttering “with the idea of getting some type of recreational vehicle “.... I’m just starting my real minimalist journey.” Im currently working a seasonal job at a tax center that ends on Apr 17 ..Hooray....... I’m gonna come back and remove the 2& 3 paragraph after I think you’ve read it. TMI
For us minimalism was also the starting point for thinking outside the box. As a young couple we always moved into bigger apartments, looked forward to making more money after finishing university an of course we were desperate because our dreamhouse would never be affordable for us. We would not have the space for a child in our three room apartment three years before, but now he has a nice, clear room to play, in our kitchen there is almost an echo (another reason to downsize) and we live on less money than ever. Our mindset changed and we do not follow the rules of „normal“ living anymore. Why should I have a big house I have to clean and tidy? Just to accumulate stuff? Why should we actually OWN a house? Just because everybody wants it? We now want to downsize to live in a (not spiritual or religious) community with our soon two children. We have a group and now search for a place we could live. Not conventional, but our way.
That’s where I am now ... I drink myself to sleep and have a strong desire to get rid of most of my possessions which I really don’t need only thing my wife is completely the opposite she’s always buying more stuff so off course our relationship is currently headed down hill.
Thanks for sharing this info. I too am striving to minimize the items in my home and trying to encourage my family to do the same. I'm selling my items on eBay too. Can I ask you, in between your seasonal jobs where do you live? I used to work a summer seasonal job and I'm interested in this again, but where do you live in the off season?
It's important to point out that minimalism does not mean the same thing to everyone. As I heard Aaron Clary once say it, it's a sliding scale. It's a healthy goal, however, to cut off the excess fat in your life and live the most streamlined life you can live, while still living in the way you want to live.
One man's junk another man's treasure. I've found that when I just give things away my life is better. I love your story! But I think if you had a family it may be a little different do u agree😊
Hey, thanks for the video. Have you ever thought about doing a video related to the benefits or drawbacks of going to college? The reality is, the folks that you used to see in so-called better cars and better houses went to college and got skill sets that pay them more. Sure, they were in debt, but they made more because they selected higher-paying professions. Can you do a video about the cost-benefit analysis of college? Thanks!
💚 So very interesting to hear you share your thoughts and journey ... sounds so relatable ... also I have to laugh, because it sounds so familiar to have too little space when there´s so much stuff, and it´s interesting how this journey taught you how to improvise a lot and see potential in everything you do ~ ... "robbing-hood" lol ... didn´t you try selling the extra space on ebay ? *lol Wow, the organic farm thing sounds interesting ... and the seasonal work too, and out in nature, interested to learn more ... ... so now you live in youtube .. something to always come back to : ) wow, so happy to hear you let go of alc ... you truly transformed yourself in a self-healing way ... and speaking so honestly and sharing this ... huge thumbs-up for courage and authenticity ! You truly freed yourself ! ... and a quick and clear mind ....
I like minimalism but as someone who likes to be prepared and the changes that are about to happen globally- minimalism starts to look like a bad move. Definitely support clearing out the clutter and making some cash though
Just curious...what part of minimalism do you think keeps us from being prepared for the future? I would argue that I've become more prepared for what might be going to happen in the coming days since I became a minimalist.
Stranded 360 🤔🤔🤔🤔 A minimalistic lifestyle, will be best because it's about living comfortably with less, even people, who have more,to spend, would benefit greatly from mimilism what will truly ruin you is conditoned consumerism spending more than you earn which translates to spending more than you have in other words, using credit cards to buy things, you don't really want or need, incurring debt borrowing money from family and friends, only to buy nonessential things the very basis of being rich, lies in the fact, that your input is considerably greater, than your output.
@Timothy Ward... i don't it's possible to live a minimal lifestyle as technician, cause we usually accumulate lots of stuff of the years, we keep stuff around just in case. The only possibility i see is to quit being a tech, but that'd be impossible... Anyone?
Mike Buttfild that's what I used to call it before the phrase minimalism was coined. The difference for me now is I'm actually putting a numerical limit on the items I own. I haven't discovered what that number is for me yet. But I'm down to being able to live comfortably in a 24ft X 7ft camper. I'm working my way down to a conversion van and an ultimate goal would be to have everything I own in a backpack.
Holly Smack in the summer of 1967 I was 17. Friend and I hitch hiked from the SF bay area to Yosemite. First ride gave each of us a hit of blue dot acid.. from there to Big Sur on the beach, then on to Hollywood.

I love your stories.. they are comforting and inspiring and REAL.
Thank you!
I agree, when you've got too much stuff, etc, it makes you anxious and exhausted. Downsizing/ minimizing is such a relief.
It really is! I wish more people realized this and could free themselves from the stress!
It is amazing how getting rid of the excess and clutter and minimizing helps you to get focused.
I think you should have this talk at least once a year for all the new subscribers and to remind us old subs! You are an inspiration to many of us and this video let's us see that a better life is out there and reachable! Thanks Tim.
Well said Carol! I agree! Timothy is so inspiring and I love hearing about his journey.

This man talks about “ The Dark Side of Minimalism”. He made some good points. Can you make a video one day about the challenges to minimalism?
4 yrs later..... A new journey in a nesting place to call your own. You're the best Tim!
I need minimalism Tim x 😊🙏🏿
