Cool video. Fastest bug ever on the strip was the Turbonique powered one from the 1960's. I believe it went airborne, on the 1/4 mile strip, at 200MPH. The car was wrecked but the driver unhurt.

He is not racing anyone, so reaction time doesn't matter. He waits for the car to build the right amount of boost before launching. Most people tend to do this while testing and not actually racing.
Reaction times don't matter in a timed run, only side by side racing! DUH!!! World's fastest, don't think so, in America we run low 7's/high 6's, get real!!!

Mark SHOEMAKER i only found some info about it in a post from 2009; Based on a wasserboxer 2789ccm Everything else is modified or customized, uniqe crank ordered at specified Skinne measurements, so is the pistons and camshafts. Specified clutch system for not tear or break down the drivetrain. Turbo is a Precision Turbo with CNC machined impeller also ordered at Skinne spec’s with the thoughs of combination between exhaust/compressor fan, not a common part in stock within the dealer in other words. The full list of mods is incredible long, and everything is done to this car is by a man that is 90% blind. They’ve runned it before on the dyno with reduced boostpressure at approx 700 whp. Got 850hp/1096Nm at the most out if it back then in 2009. Acchieved 600hp from 4600 rpm and still well above 800hp at 7000 rpm.

Rotor Head you maybe right, but that aint the case here. This is still a original bug underneath, chassis, body, H-shift gearbox...all improven of course, so it is in a class of its own and its also roadlegal. Yeah, you can build faster cars with tube chassis and other engine ofc...but then you’ve ruined the whole classic part of a fast bug. Have a nice day ;)

Tube chassis is its own class.. that's the only downfall about building a tube chassis car.. you can't say you're the fastest.. unless you're smoking the rest of the tube chassis cars.

You could build a 3.8 liter engine. Computers getting better. Helped out now. And engines rarely go above 2.6 liters. All this is moot. A bug weighs 1,700 pounds. And is as aerodynamic as an airplane wing. I.E. it will catch lift at as slow 100 mph. If, and I said if. You get there fast. I.E. drag coefficients not being able to spill off. Before it goes airborne.
I haven't seen 1000hp out of a vw motor and I've seen many built motors..I'm from monterrey Mexico I started seeing 9 sec bugs when I was a kid in the early 90s..,@ the autodromo race track..they are getting faster and faster since then but 1000hp is a hard claim.i had a 63 super I sold and I'm building a 76
