I don't know which would be more terrorizing to ones nerves: being in a sub under depth charges or in a foxhole during an enemy artillery bombardment.
Imagining the unimaginable and vicariously experiencing what one would not want to experience is part of the alure that keeps me coming back to these slices of history posted by WW2 memoirs.
WW2 Memoirs is one of my favorite UA-cam channels. I've said this before and say again; Bravo WW2 Memoirs! 🏴‍☠️

Well, Americans were afraid of German U Boats until we and the British made sure that 3 out of 4 German U Boat sailors remained on “eternal patrol”.

If you would listen the complete series, then you'll notice that our guy also is going to experience that.

One time in '44, he sails out with 6 other boats, within 24 hours, 5 are sunk by the British and Americans.

And I forgot to mention the Canadians that were instrumental. Brave men all.

I really enjoyed the original Das Boot TV drama, if you've not heard of it or watched it, I'd highly recommend it , as do I for your channel. Excellent bedtime listening.

What amazed me: in WW1 the RN learned that the convoy system was the key to beating sub attacks-yet this was forgotten in the early years of WW2. The biggest factor in the Allied victory was (1) Bletchley Park cracking the Kriegsmarine Enigma Codes and (2) Admiral Doenitz requiring U-Boats to send daily position reports. He never seemed to realize that Allied aircraft being around whn U Boats surfaced.

Afraid. . . For a while. The convoy system was reestablished. . . And more important, thr US industry started putting 'jeep' caŕriers' as part of the convoy. They were paramount to closr the Atlantic Gap. Air cover all the way to England. . . . One of my older cousins was aboard a Jeep.

German submarines were afraid of PBYs bearing depth charges - as they bloody well should have been.

Great video, but Americans were pissed off at the German U-boats!! I’m surprised President Roosevelt took it as long as he did, but he was always in the background working on the plan for operation, warp speed, and to get the best deals for military equipment, etc. etc. and then finally we just destroyed in obliterated the German U-boat to the point that Germany quit making them, and really didn’t have much of a navy after that

The Germans were making UBoots until the end of the War. The last ones were the type 21 & type 23 both could stay submerged much longer. That's the reason that Army Group Courland were left there until the last minute, see they were testing these superior UBoots and needed the waterway held in German hands. Really The old Army Group North renamed Army Group Courland should have been bought straight to Berlin 5 months sooner, refitted and used as a superior force along the Oder.
Pretty Cool a lass being interested in WW2, kudos to you!
