Fool (If You Think It's Over) Lyrics-Chris Rea

- Fool (If You Think It's Over)" was written by Chris Rea for his young sister who just experienced her first heartbreak. I made this video for myself, after years of happy marriage, I lost my husband, a Vietnam Veteran to terminal illness caused by exposure to Agent Orange. " all dress in black, he won't be coming back. The loss is equally heartbreaking like that when you were 17, you start again " first wound of pride" is when I go about my life as if nothing was lost, nothing taken away...". After all these years, I still choke, yes cry, sometimes when life gets overbearing, I yell out "how dare you leave me!". Fool if you think life is over after you lose someone who you thought would be there forever... and yes life begins again and one day I will meet someone who will "buy me fresh good wine and have a real good time."....The last gift I got from my husband was a Nikon dslr camera for valentines. so I ventured into photography..
I'm 64, always loved the song. Never knew it was for his sister. What a sweet gesture from a brother, and to have it be such a big hit! Heartwarming !
ßss
My mom loves this song, even had it saved on her phone-I lost her in October, and I blast it and cry and smile at the same time. I love you, Mom….you had such great taste in music ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I’ll carry it on….along with you in my heart.
That's sweet.
I'm so sorry for your loss I lost my mom too just know she's always with you and SHE WILL let you know God bless you
My mom loves this song also..Every time I here it, I think of her..🙏🏿😢
Aww, sweetie sorry for your lost ❤
Green eyed girl one day you will see hopefully not for a while im sixty five years old getting old sucks big time peace from Brooklyn New York New York city
The 70's was sunshine....nice people....no cell phones....no evilnet....I need to build us All a time machine....My Mom used to say....kid, these are the best days of your life.....Mom is always right. Always!
It was such an awesome era that they were able to pass of a lame, sitcom, filled with pedophiles, by everyone! With only nostalgia for street-cred! 💩
Chris Rea wrote this song for his kid sister who had her first broken heart. I love his beautiful raspy voice and the emotion he gives this song. ❤ Love the poetry, love the lushness of the melody. Feel like you can float away on it.
Never thought about it that, didn't know it was about his sis. Thank you 😢
@@parrmar1 I have always loved this song. I am so glad that I read this.
I was shopping at Safeway early morning and this song came on. Nobody around so I danced an sang. Love Chris Rea
Is this really you?!!
thats cool I was at Sobeys Grocery Store and I was doing the same thing I cant resist his music
You do realize there are cctv cameras all over. Smile, you're on candid camera hahaha
It used to be called Safeway in Australia..now it’s Woollies
Good for you ! That’s the way to represent . ❤
This is the kind of music that i'd still even pay for now, especially over today's garbage.
What an AWESOME BIG brother to write such a beautiful song for a hurting sis.
This song is a musical masterpiece. Timeless and the instrumentation takes us back to the time when “ REAL” musical instruments were used with great dynamics and substance. Just listen to the strings. Chris’ voice is a golden voice like Henley’s too. Underrated musician.
Totally 💯 agree ! This song is a masterpiece
I was on the first date in 1978 with the girl that became the love of my life... we were riding in an Olds Cutlass and this song was on the radio...I'll never forget how beautiful she looked with her hair blowing in the warm summer wind as we rode along. We were so in love. We eventually broke up. True love and memories live forever.
1978 will never go away in music
I lived thru the 1970's best time of my life
Without a doubt...what i wouldnt give to go back and just have one day...best time of my life as well
I miss my daddy jerry. He passed away this march
Please don't forget the 80's. Equally good.
one of the best songs ever...period.
Stands the test of time! Smooth and deep. I love this song!
Damn well said. Thank You
Yes, I LOVE this song
truth.
Listened to this in the early 80s b4 I was 12 n it stays with me. Oldies radio doesn't play it so I looked it up for the first time today. Funny how emotions of songs stay deeply buried inside you til you had to sing parts of the lyrics to find the song.
Who's with me....Music of this sort really hit's the soul of your being, unlike most of the music today.
james miller😎
You're absolutely right!!! Today's singers have no idea............
This is when music was really music I was still in high school and everytime I hear this song seems like I'm back there again class of 74
Ohara Davis I’m 59, graduated in ‘77, fell head over heels for a 28-year-old gorgeous married seductress who wanted a baby... a year later, I felt I couldn’t trust my now-divorced love due to rumors I’d heard when she asked if I wanted her to move to Florida, where I was stationed in the Air Force and got back to visit her as often as I could. I ended up asking my former girlfriend back whom I had asked out in high school, and we’ve been married 38 1/2 years. And I’m still a fool for thinking it was over……
The 70s gods are with me right now
This song need to be played on the radio more
This takes me back in time when life was so simple
I'm with you sister!
U aint wrong on that statement
Ughhh..so true..what i wouldnt give for 10 minutes of 1971
Looking back (from the wisdom we've earned through the years) it seemed simple but there were many complexities we didn't understand or were unaware.
Has there ever been an older person in the history of humanity who didn’t think the old days were better?
I remember this song so well, 70s were the best.
If you grew up in the 60's & 70's you were blessed with some of the greatest music ever produced. The stuff they play on the radio today can't compare with our generation's of music. This song is just one example among hundreds. No brag just fact.
Yeah!!! :)
You have to dig deeper - "Alternative" music, etc.
MrBusholiday Here here!!!!
MrBusholiday I love these music, it takes me back to my teens
Agreed ! By today's standards you don't even need talent to be called a musician.
This song is & will always be important for teens & people of all ages to realize that life goes on & the best is yet to come. Stay alive & you might just find what or who you really need. I've always loved this song but now I actually need it. Thank you Chris Rea🏆👏🏾🕊🌹🌟💖👑🎤🎼
Beautiful song beautiful words beautiful lessons in the meaning of the song God bless everybody stay safe stay healthy I keep coming back to the song because it's so beautiful it goes right into heart and so ul ❤🙏🙏🎵🎶
Such a beautiful song that pulls at my heart strings, and as I listened my heartache returnes. After 30 years, I still wear black, at least my heart does. No matter how many loves after, no one will ever take the place of my first love. And as I watched our son grow, in many ways it was watching you grow up beside me all over again from the tender ages of 14 and 15. Our son, identical to you in so many ways, has grown up into the man you used to be. Your face, your hair, your laugh, and in many ways even your gentle demeanor. I'll always have a piece of you, and hopefully someday soon, I'll see you again in ours grandbabies too.
30 years? Haha that was in the 90s. This was the 70s
@@PR7-82 Sick of you to bring it up. 30 years her husband/man has been gone.
@@fomoyearsfofofiv8178 Thank You for standing up for her .
Some are so blind .
Waaaaah, so sad…. So sorry
Oh, how I know the heartache! 😭
"Newborn eyes always cry with pain...at first look of the morning sun"
just epic.
such a haunting song to me its about loss..I get choked up when I hear this song.I was a kid when I first heard it. my parents had issues this song comforted me...goodbye mom I'll c ya soon this song iz 4 u mamma.
You are such a caring person ❤️.. your Mom definitely brought you up to be a good person.. I'm so glad we met and 🌹 you are in my life..
You are such a good person with a big heart.. your mom definitely raised you right and I'm blessed to have met you and to be in your life.🌹🌹
This guy is so under rated IMHO....What a great song this was and still is.......And after all these years, "It still isn't over"!!
Beautiful, easy listening classic by Chris Rea from 1978. Such an awesome time, so many great songs from the 70's. This ranks high, love it.

I love this song for many yrs and never knew thay
Thank God I have not 1 but 5 brothers and 4 of them are like that.
Didn't know it was about his sister!😪
Reminds me of my life as a young man. My passion for my woman was everything. We breathed the same air as our hearts beat as one. The innocence of being 15, experiencing life, lust and love. Responsibility was for the parents. Our moment fleeted and now I’m that parent with wonderful memories of her, that have lasted so many years.
This is a "one of a kind" song if there ever was one. Brilliant.
I am just glad that I got to experience this music of the mid 70s and 80s in person. It's amazing the song like this will come on and it will take you back to the very first time you heard it as if it was just yesterday
I cannot think of any song that completely depicts the AGONY of your first lost love. Chris is amazing!!
I can... That's Love by Jim Capaldi equally as heartbreaking just listen to the lyrics

I agree
Agree 💕
I relive it through this beautiful song.
Let me offer 'Since I Lost my Baby' sung by Mr. David Ruffin (60s stuff) - but I'll admit, he did NOT write that song.
What else can be said but this, it was the 70's the single Greatest Era in Music (1970-79).
Talent out the ass...best music in history...I'm 57...I remember....
close, but more like 1966-1975...prior to disco shtt.
I don't want to be so restrictive. Early 60's to mid 80's. .Great music has always existed, There was just more of it during that time period. Also, there has always been plenty of junk out there.
@@gonzaloleon-gelpi9151 agree in principle but it's a matter of percentages or ratio for grest, good, okay and crap. I'm 70 so heard a lot of music. I'm kinda a 64 to 75 era. But there has to be something about the music that you hear from 14 to 25 or so. You development, it helps define you.
YES SIR THE BEST ..NEVER BE ANY MORE.. THEY REALLY HAD TOGETHER..
The type of music that I listen to, I don’t listen to none of this music that they make today. None of it!
Agreed!!!
I was out one night with friends at karaoke when this ol' dude steps up to the mike. The intro of this song starts playing and this dude starts balling like someone had just run over his dog. Wow! Through tears he sings and finishes the song to a really nice round of applause (including me). Talk about a trouper. Who'd want to follow that? But the show must go on, right?!
This song just passed one million times being played and I think that I played it at least one hundred thousand times myself. I guess that I must like it a lot. LOVE IT.
A.T. .Justice Thank you for always stopping by.
A.T. .Justice I still love it

This is a MASTERPIECE! I was 15 in 1978 when it came out and remember, what a beautiful song!
i was 13 and omg i can smell 1978
Me too. I was 15 in 1978. We had just moved to South Carolina from Pennsylvania. I left everything behind and remember listening to this song while in deep depression. Still like the song though.
I'm right there with you Nicky - I was 15 when I first heard it as well.
Nicky Depaola I was 12 in my parents car saying "turn it up" well that's all I can remember...lol
Nicky Depaola me too I was 15 in 78.
I wouldn't trade this era I grew up for anything in the 70s I can remember songs like this my dad playing in the 8 track in the car taking long drives to Atlantic city and we all listen to music...thanks for posting
Another song I love from the 70's. Remember hearing it on WABC AM in New York! I had forgotten about it for many years and rediscovered it. For me it says about the pain of young love when you might think your world is ending. But it's only the beginning, and there will be other loves! Love Chris Rea's vocals and the harmonizing! Great song and brings back so many memories! ❤️
WABC AM 77 - Harry Harrison, Dan Ingraham , etc. back in the 70's

I recall listening to it on AM radio when it first was released. It was great then and 40+ years later it is still great. How I miss the music of the 70's.

Chris Rea never disturbs anyone on earth with his voice even at 3am
I'm 61 now, first heard this song when I was a teenager in Laguna Beach snorkeling and chasing barracuda around-- great times . . .
I feel your pain. My dad was a Vietnam vet and I lost him this year. Please give life and love a second chance, You will meet someone who will buy you fresh good wine and you'll have a real good time. Hang in there sweetie, your old man was and still is a hero.
I love his voice. What a special tribute for his sister.
+sue tullgren Think his unique gutsy voice makes the song
Thanks for clarifying.
This was a tribute for his sister???!!! Wow I never knew that! Thank you!! Michael

So glad to know I am not the only Romantic form the 70's who enjoyed and liked the music form that era. Such an easy living all around compared to now. God bless Y'all.
My brother died at the young age of 51. Gives me hope that it's not over. He goes on and I see him in my dreams. We never got to reunite before he died. It kills me inside i never got to say il love you Jim. I'm saying it now brother. Never forgotten

Fool if you think its over tell you why. Newborn eyes always cry with pain, first look at the morning sun. Fool if its over its over we've just begun
this song reminds me of the good old days.
To think I was only 12 yrs old when this was always playing on the Am/Radio, in 1978 I wouldn't trade those times for nothing innocent simple💙💜❤

Songs in this era were the BEST!
They most DEFINITELY were!
Such good times and memories back in the 70's. The music was fantastic then.
I’m hearing impaired and wondered for years the name of this song one day it popped up and gave it a listen, oh memories...took me back to1978 when I was 12...am 53 now but this song...I just can’t explain 💘💓💗❤️
Its only since I turned 50 - 9 years ago now - that I have come to realise just how good Chris Rea was, and just what genius this song was.
Give me the 1970's and 1980's back please...
Better late than never huh? I'm only 50 right now , but my mom had me listining to tunes early on. And I am so ever greatfull.

You can't get more beautiful than this!
I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my husband to cancer. He was the age of Chris's sister when he sang the song. I can't listen to this kind of music and not still feel connected to him. It is always a happy journey back in time.
Laurita Christian I'm so sorry....
Beautiful hit & true song from 1978.
The Jeffery Domar documentary brought me here. I remember listening to this when I was younger tho .
I lost the love of my life in 1986, 30 years later it still hurts.
So sorry to hear that. I know exactly how you feel. :(
I'm sorry for that just member true love never dies
scotty krass I'm sorry. I lost mine in August 1987, I feel your pain. It's cruel how you love them from your soul and then they're over you and move on. I did see him last year. He didn't understand he thought I feel in love with him again. He apologized if he sent the wrong signals to me. I should have kept the memory. They way he looks at me now it's like he's afraid of me now. More sadness.

Love this by Chris Rea - it brings back so much memories of the 70s.
And all of a sudden it's 1978 again... Man, I wish!! Great tune that I've always loved.
I gather it was her first love she gave her all to him and then had her heart broken in painful disappointment. Fool if you think its over could easily mean you will never forget your first heartache and/or its foolish to think the heartbreak is over whereas hoping none others will ever follow. I never forgot my first love , a young USAF Airman, and giving all at almost 20 years old. No one else could ever reside in this longing heart for 50 years and then he became mine. Only lasted 4 years before Alzheimers took him. Heartache once more. Fool to think its over. As long as the heart can love, it can break. ❤️🩹
Well said. I believe our lives are a classroom, and in that short time most of us will break someone's heart, and have our own broken. We live, we learn, we love....
