Update! The joke was that taking down statues to save people from monsters is a better motive than tearing down statues because you’re a giant, corrupt political operation that uses race to scam people out of lots and lots of money.
Kinda crazy that a fairly tame comedic observation at the expense of a known-to-be-fraudulent political org blew up. But this is the internet.
Just to clear up a point quite a lot of silly people are missing: nobody has any problem with you having fun with this movie. This review has a lot of fun at the movie’s expense. The problem is with those who say that fun and quality are the same thing.
“Dumb but fun” - fine.
“So actually the film is really good” - not fine.
I don't know if she can take it C'ptain!!
SIR! Autism torpedoes inbound!
I still can’t believe people like these…
… just… let people enjoy things? There’s a line between offering genuine critique about the writing quality of something… vs pointlessly mocking people who enjoy it. It’s entirely possible to accept a work is not good, but enjoy it anyway. And conversely, you can dislike something without having to mock people who do.
@lafe5 Critiquing a bad movie doesn't stop people from enjoying them. The moment you use the "let people enjoy things" argument, you have to apply that to every movie. People said that about the Disney Star Wars movies and shows, people said that about Phase 4 MCU and shows. It's not even an argument, most people use the phrase so they don't have to defend the films they like.

Point of reference - it is a well established and well known fact that titanic monsters hate land marks and are drawn to them like moths to a flame. This is why every monster movie involves well known landmarks being destroyed. For some reason, in the 90's, the Tokyo tower was particularly good at attracting monsters to destroy it.
Why though? Does human achievement bother them?
@EJK2099 yes becuase humans are killing the planet and its their job to fight the virus our expansion is a disease to the planet

@@chazzitz-wh4ly It would be more relatable if it were a teenager. Most parents can relate to wanting to hit their teenagers over the head with club even if they don't relate to hitting someone else over the head with their teenager.
Going from a 100 ft adolescent Kong to a 100 ft baby Louis, it's apparent the babies are getting exponentially bigger.

Absolutely.
I loved spotting as many easter eggs and references in this movie.
Godzilla x kong isnt really a good title for this movie.
A better title would have been "kong vs scar, with cameos from Godzilla every so often because we need more toys."
Yes, that was my biggest disappointment with the film. I was expecting them teaming up this time for the majority of the film, but Godzilla is just on the surface doing his own thing 80% of the movie then just pops up for the final battle
It's kinda nessasary. It is vary easy to write Kong like a mute human. He is a ape after all. Meanwhile if you write Godzilla like a human it's just strange.
Now that is not to say you can't write the story with Godzilla as the focus. It's just going to be hard to relate to him. As good as Minus one was. Only a lunatic could say they relate to Godzilla in that movie.
Can't argue with that, this feels like it was originally pitched as the third Kong movie and they just added Godzilla to ride the momentum of Godzilla vs Kong
Yes. My brother said the same thing. It feels more like a kong movie.

Godzilla is a franchise with a ton of variety concerning its tone. From the serious tone of the original, Minus one and Shin Godzilla or the campy, ridiculous films of the showa era.(The original Godzilla vs King Kong.)
I'd argue that the many shapes and forms that a Godzilla film can take is exactly what makes Godzilla such an enduring figure. You're right Godzilla x Kong is not a great film, but its great fun. The appeal of the Monsterverse for me is seeing Godzilla get a Hollywood size budget and acceptance from mainstream audiences. We've come a long way since Suitmation(which I love) and Godzilla 1999. I still think the Monsterverse captures the "spirit" of the franchise. Seeing Godzilla 2014 in theaters with my father who introduced me to the films is something i'Il remember forever.
As an adult do I prefer/appreciate more thoughtful entries in the franchise? Absolutely! But as a life long Godzilla fan. This is par for the course and because of the Monsterverse, Godzilla is at peak cultural awareness. Which means more films both good and bad.
It's hard not to be a happy Godzilla fan right now between the Monsterverse entries and the stellar Toho entries. There's really something for everyone, and I think you illuminated that perfectly by explaining your respect for Minus One and Disdain for Godzilla x Kong. But I respect your take.
None of Platoon's arguments have anything to do with tone. Its badly written.

The problem I have with most Kaiju movies is how easily they fall into having the monster stuff making the human story so irrelevant and pointless or at best to only have some influence on the monster scenes.
The humans largely being expositional devices that explains things and act as filling whilst we wait for the big expensive monster fights.
What pacific rim did right despite all its flaws was actually get the humans involved in the big fights by having them pilot giant robots that can go toe to toe with the kaiju. Thereby making the human storyline and the action scenes complimentary and dependant to eachother.
I think New Empire is a step in the right direction by placing a heavier focus on the kaiju story. Kong's plot was simple, but I think it was effective. Humans are mostly just there for exposition.
@@cordyceps182too bad they downgraded the kaijus in terms of their actual character. Kong was the only redeeming quality of this movie, and I say that as a MonsterVerse Godzilla fan.
@@CobbleBompster Don't really see how they "downgraded" the others.
What is that even supposed to mean anyway? It's not like they changed them.
But that is a challenge to overcome surely? I would point to the original Alien, Predator, Jurassic Park and Terminator movies. The monster was the stand out star of the show but we all know and love the human characters because they were so real, multilayered and memorable. Their presence kept the fantastical elements grounded and believable.
A human character in a Kiju movie could keep the audience in mind of the scale and stakes at play. I think Cloverfield pulled this off.
But it takes a creative writer drawing from their life experience with friends and family to achieve this, not a boardroom of number crunchers

Dear Little Platoon,
I agree, this movie has major flaws and is undoubtedly worse than the other monsterverse movies.
That said here’s where I find that you are either overly pedantic on or just wrong.
Harmony does not mean no issues. Times of peace doesn’t not mean crimes don’t exist. So the Titan Apes protecting humans can be from the many hungry monsters that roam the underworld, or from just normal natural disasters.
I wouldn’t let a man stick his finger in my mouth to expose my teeth because I’m not a literal animal. Kong and Scar Kings are monkeys. Same type of animals that poke assholes and smell their fingers.
Scar King notices that Diddy brought the Kong into his lair, and before Scar King punishes Diddy, a slave ape intervenes. So Scar King kills the slave instead of Diddy.
The ice titan being trapped in its own cave with a lava waterfall acting as the entrance makes sense. It’s a cage, where the door is lava… so it won’t leave. Meaning that Scar King doesn’t have to constantly use the crystal mind control device to keep it in place…
The natives try to communicate with Godzilla (instead of Kong) because all the apes they know of serve the Scar King. Not to mention that Godzilla is the strongest, and has already “won” the first war.
The movie has shown that Kong lays trap around his hunting ground. The Subterranean world entrance is just above his hunting grounds. So it no surprise when Kong is using it against the apes chasing him.
Godzilla is absorbing the energy within the lair of Tiamat. Cant remember but I’m pretty sure that the lair itself is the focal point of the converging solar energy, and that was in Tiamat’s territory.
Scar King can ride the back of Shimo and not get frostbite because the frostbite would come from the actual attack that is the ice breath beam… nothing else suggest that other titans would get frost bite simple by touching Shimo
“Throwing shit at the wall” term can be used in many movie situations. Good or bad. Countless stories have the same Hail Mary as their lead up to the climax. It would be appropriate in-universe to call it out especially when the characters know that failure is more likely to happen than not. Your attempt to make it this weird meta insult upon monsterverse fans is silly.
Kong didn’t jump down to bait Godzilla to the underworld because there would be a chance that Godzilla wouldn’t follow or Godzilla would just attack him there.
The statue of Christ the Redeemer does not get harmed. The colosseum before is surprisingly unharmed as well except for a wall that Godzilla walks over. I understand the tangents about them but it’s not as warranted as you make them sound.
Now you missed a genuinely bad motive for the Scar King. I watched your stream about this and you mention that Shimo does an ice breath at the sky for no reason and then after the battle Godzilla did a laser breath too.
What you didn’t realize is that Scar King was commanding Shimo to ice beam the sky to presumably cause another
Ice Age and freeze the world.
Why?
No fucking clue.
Scar King finally gets the to surface and then decides “ok I want this place to be frozen now”.
Nothing really suggest that he wanted that in the first place considering that Scar King level in lava land.
But this can only be the his climatic motive because if the Scar King reaches the surface, nothing different would really happen.
He’d just get his ass kicked there anyways by Godzilla or the multiple other titans that live on the surface.
He’d rule less land on the surface then he would in the underworld.
So the writers had Scar King suddenly want to start an Ice Age.
Then Shimo is freed, and Godzilla repairs the damage by undoing the ice age stuff.
This movie had me in tears on how absurd it was, even comparatively to the previous films. Still unwarranted or overly pedantic critiques of it does more harm to yourself than good.
The fact I could even defend a single point in this ridiculous movie makes me question your format in your other videos.
Then again you did hit more than you miss since I agree with the actual major plot issues.
That said,
Not all movies have to be a 5 star meal. Some movies are ok to be fast food quality. Other movies are gas station levels of slop.
Nothing wrong with that, people like it.
You insulting these people does you less favors then not.
So no need to be have this “holier then thou” attitude because you’d only like to dine at the finest of restaurants.
After all can you really feel insulted when you are the one who walked into the gas station market and realized you didn’t like the food there for the 4th time?
Good job, we really needed more comments like this.

Great critique
One thing that I've seen nobody bring up when discussing the movie is the Kong Kong side of the story, despite this being more of a King Kong movie than it is a Godzilla movie.
King Kong, from the character's very beginning, has always been about entertainment and escapism. Just joining the characters along for the ride to explore this fantastical new world. And it's always been that way whether it be in the near 1 to 1 remake that was Peter Jackson's King Kong, or in the absolute insanity that was King Kong Escapes and The King Kong Show from 1966, which this is more in line with.
As well as that, Kong has always been amongst the most personality filled characters of the genre, always feeling the most human of them. And this takes that part of him to a head by making us follow him. Kong is the central character here, and as such, his human aspects. His isolation, his loneliness, but also his compassion and sympathy, the parts of him that made him stand out from many other monsters, including Godzilla, are allowed to shine in full force.
This is actually a good point: I watched the original King kong and I couldn't help but feel like it was the "ancestor" of the modern blockbuster.
It does have a message shoehorned at the end, but the movie itself is very much just an excuse to watch people wandering an island full of dinosaurs and then an ape breaking shit up.

Ironically I find the action in Godzilla Minus One way more exciting despite it being slower paced and labored. When giant creatures are throwing each other around, and there's no weight behind it, it doesn't feel like any of it matters. It's also extremely important to see the effect that the destruction has on the people caught up in it. I feel nothing seeing Italy stepped on, but when Godzilla in Minus One trashed a city I couldn't help but cry.
Exactly, you can’t just throw in a bunch of slop, call it “action”, and expect it to have more impact than any of the previous MonsterVerse fights.
Because you care about the human characters, because the movie uses music and images to convey pathos, danger and peril. Minus One's Gojira is not a cute ape or a protector, it is a monster, the wrath of God, inevitable and unstoppable. We see the people in the streets, they are trying to rebuild, live a normal life, they are somebody's son, somebody's father, someone is waiting for them at home. If we see their little world, then the destruction the monster causes is much more understandable. The scale of the destruction is comprehensible to us. We see their desperate struggle and we can't help but cheer for them. In these late movies in the monsterverse, everything is gigantic but meaningless. The characters aren't larger-than-life heroes or relatable normal people, they are just characters. Even they don't care so much about the monsters, they are a fact of life for them, so why should we? They have all the issues some later Kaiju movies had, without any of the campy charm.
@@Eisenwulf666 I'm not watching Kong v Godzilla for the same reasons i'm watching Minus One. I go to one movie to enjoy and be at awe at the grounded destruction and the toll it has on interesting characters and the other i go with my friends and have a good time laughing and seeing big dumb monsters do wrestling moves on eachother.
You can also see a great example of that contrast with Pacific Rim and its sequel. The former treats the giant machines like...well, giant machines, and they move with appropriate weight and purpose. The latter treats them like actors on wires that had the robot skins greenscreened onto them.

As a dude who have been a fan of Godzilla since i was a kid as well as having my top 4 films being the solo goji ones...this film isnt ruining any kids. This film is like a modern 70s showa film which is letting younger fans into the franchise.
Is the film perfect? No. Should this film get constructive criticism with accurate information and come from someone who was actually paying attention to the film? Yes.
Should fans of this film get insulted by people who dont like the film? No.
No one's wrong for liking the film and visa versa.
Just out of curiosity: Did you like the movie? If so, what was it you like about the movie?

And...when you call fans of the monsterverse idiots and retards...that's insulting. Like...seriously. I got my "You deserve better" with Minus one and Yamazaki possible sequel to it. I'm baffled by "Kaiju film fans" who feel the human/storytelling element is expendable, for dumb action. Without the proportion the human perspective brings, you aren't watching a giant monster movie. You're watching "pro-wrestling with animal costumes." You don't have to hate GXK to think its a bad movie--I don't and I think it is. GXK doesn't have to be Minus-1, but I don't want a "Fast/Furious-Monsterverse," either. I hope Godzilla fans won't keep settling, so we can find a good balance
That's the thing though: how does that make it bad? People clearly got what they expected out of it.
It's not "settling", we already have a lot of better movies, it's just that the whole fandom built itself around movies of very different quality and each of them gets appreciated for different things.
My thing is just, even if you see the human/storytelling element as expendable, wouldn’t you rather sit through something that’s at least _a little_ compelling in-between the big kaiju fight scenes? Is just letting your eyes glaze over for like twenty minutes between each one really an ideal moviegoing experience?
So we are supposed to accept the humans being the main character when GODZILLA should be?
Fuck that
Minis One only works because the humans are great and GODZILLA is portrayed as the villain
@@spider-man500that's literally the point OP made.
@spider-man500 Godzilla isn't the main character of Godzilla X Kong, Kong is. Godzilla is barely in the movie and has no character development. He's little more than a supporting character. Shouldn't you be unhappy about that then?
The funny thing about comparing summer blockbusters to Shakespeare is that if you’re familiar at all with history…Shakespeare was sort of the JJ Abrams of his time. He was well known for creating blockbuster plays, most of which are devoid of intelligent plot and character beyond a base level (fight me on that, I’ll win,) and being supported largely by the aristocracy despite the masses not really caring one way or the other what they were watching so long as they saw it in his glorious theater.
His later popularity only arose in the Victorian era when his plays were studied by modern scholars SPECIFICALLY because they were popular at the time with the aristocracy…which fittingly enough then captured the minds of the then-modern aristocracy, leading to a wave of largely unexplained popularity which persists to this day despite a majority of his plays being best described as melodrama.
Shakespeare didn't really have much of a choice when it came to royal characters in his plays, if anything bad happened to one without 'divine retribution' it would have been treated as conspiracy of treason and then be sent to the Tower of London, which is why when Macbeth kills the king he does not get away scot free, or when Paris and Mercutio are killed in Romeo & Juliet both families lose equal amounts of members to equalise the loss of Escalus who is the prince of Verona--although in this case all of the families were aristocrats, Escalus got his 'retribution' because he is seemingly the more renowned aristocrat out of the three because he was the one to hold authority over the city and because Paris was considered of higher status than Romeo (barring the whole family feud).
@@Tomos_J-J All I see here is "the royals terrified an artist into making them look good" which I'd point out hasn't stopped other artists throughout history and just aids my perception he was nothing to write home about.

The thing is, if people randomly come jumping in, complaining about a joke made about an organization that ripped off a gazillion of people, or the fact that he called a movie dumb and made for morons, doesn't give the vibe of all of them having seen a video of his before. Or any other negative movie review of someone who's not paid, for that matter. Because he's got a few of those. Nobody ever complained. If they really believe in what they say, that just means they did see all of those videos and didn't like the movies, but now that it concerns them, they are pissed. So they're hypocrites. And dumb anyway, because they didn't notice it.
I also didn't think you were here to harrass him specifically (well, I wasn't sure), but saying something like that despite the fact that the people he responded to were not his fans and his actual fans wouldn't support comments like that because of the reasons I mentioned above seemed illogical (actual understanding of fraudulent and r*cist organizations like BLM or the fact that he frequently reviews movies that are dumb and calls them out - like, have you seen the Avatar 2 review?!
