    But I like to struggle and make everything that I don’t already know an infuriating “learning moment”

    I've been trying to pass that along for years. People don't want to read so they drop their bikes off to me. Thanks for the payday.

    I got one for my 2008 Dyna. It was either free or like $3 to download it. All 1033 pages or so of the manual. From Harley. Invaluable

    This makes me feel very validated in buying a service manual for almost every bike I've owned even though I mostly do only basic maintenance.

    And you don't have to buy a physical one, and you can find free ones from manufacturers websites, sometimes.

    Best advice for anyone who is working on thier own stuff.. well said... I did my first 10 year (a real man don't need/read manual) mentality.. for the last 20 years ... nothing gets touched until I read OEM/repair manual < some stuff is hard to get I understand> but TRY to get it.. well worth your time and money

    Bought a Service and Parts Manual which have been invaluable for me as I didn't grow up being mechanically inclined. With the Manuals I've changed belts, seals, head gaskets, etc.

    The FIRST correct answer every time someone asks how to fix their bike or car, get a service manual. It's as important a tool as a wrench set or screwdriver. Been working on cars and motorcycles since the mid '70s. Didn't have any mentors teaching me, Dad wasn't into it at all. If I couldn't find a manual to buy, I'd borrow one from the library and copy the info I needed for future reference. On the shelf in front of my desk, there's about 20 motorcycle service manuals, more car manuals in storage boxes. And more downloaded manuals on my laptop.
    Do I use them every time I turn a wrench? Hell no. But I have answers with easy access directly from the source, rather than what someone on the internet said they did.

    I remember back in the day every time I bought a car, I’d go straight to autozone and buy the Haynes book for it. Are the bikes like cars where there is a certain period where it went from anyone can work on their bike, to being engineered to have to be brought to the dealership?

    The last 4 bikes I bought, I told them to throw in the service manual and I would buy. I got them after the deal on the bikes. There is so much info in them.

    Been working on harleys for 30yrs. I have never even used a service manuel. I know techs 10x smarter and efficient than any harley trained mechanic on the planet

      You just think that because you don’t know any better.

    • @caseykosek2673
      @caseykosek2673 2 місяці тому

      @kruesioriginals Is it that, or growing up with parents and uncles who were in clubs, owned bike shops and being in a garage with guys through the 70s and 80s and 90, and even now, who forgot more about knuckles, pans, shovels, and Evos than any MTI teacher or tech even knows. Basic common sense things books dont teach. I like your content. But you shouldn't shit on the very people who make it possible for you to enjoy your awesome life. By your reasoning. Indian Larry, self taught. Billy (college degree non motorcycle related), self taught motor work, and hundreds of others who learned hands on. Case in point. Harley dealer takes top end off to upgrade to adjustable push rods. People who know better cut em with bolt cutters, find TDC with your finger and adjust. In the grand scheme of things, you're relatively new to the game. And I assumed previously from what you (show) on videos a man of character. But assuming someone doesn't know better because they learned a different way, does, in fact show your character. And petty isn't a good color for a "man" to wear. Ride safe..

      Look for the OEM Manual...if it's a clone, then it's probably better than nothing.
