I honor this song to a long time friend of mine who served in WW2...he was 94 and his funeral is this Saturday and I will wear my uniform in honor of him...R.I.P. my friend....
I bet you look different in your uniform then you do in your picture on here!!
*Salutes* 👏👏👏👍🇺🇸
B. The first thing
Mis respetos y que Dios le paz
God bless you and the memory of your friend. You are both the best of the past 100 years !! Thank you.
I'm from a little Islande in the caribbean, and i enjoy listening to this band.
my brother, a professional French horn player, made it to the final round of auditions for this band, but got edged out. even that is resume material.
Same thing happened with my band director except he's a trumpet
Was he in the Marines?
@@markw3598 No sir, but I think he would've had to go to boot camp had they accepted him.
This band is the only military band that does not require basic training. He wouldn't have had to go to boot camp.
@@earthling3096 depends on which band, the president's and commandant's own don't go to boot camp hence no cross rifles in their insignia, but the regular band does have em and go to boot camp. joining the regular band is alot easier than the president's and commandant's own.
THANK YOU AWESOME HUMBLE THANK YOU FOR PROTECTING ME I VERY GRATEFUL WONDERFULLY PLAYED. I LIKE WHISTLELING TO THIS .
Good job my guys
U.S.A number one.
Cada estado pone orden ,se California gasta mas Federal
Americans come watch the U.S Marine Band play The Thunder while Russians watch the Alexandrov Ensemble play "Let's Go"
Which one is better??
Why in the name of Thor is this Band called "The Presidents' Own"?
carmona band
May I attach a link to your video on a presentation I'm doing?
I'm pretty sure you can, you just have to give the credentials and the end, and put it in the citations page or something
What is the introduction song

Bravo! Ah yes "The President's Own" U.S. Marine Corps Band and Sousa; it doesn't get any better than this! God bless this wonderful band!
Amen!
I agree
Yeah, they do the very best Sousa I've heard, hands down.
Marines!! Semper Fidelis!
GOD Bless the American Republic - Long live the USA !!!
My band is playing this at our concert tomorrow, it is such a lovely piece I can't wait to play it.
Awesome 👍 👍
Marine band does it best. Special feeling down inside hearing this stuff.
The trombone counter melody turns me on
trombones turn everyone on. I am 77 and still play the bone
"Never look at the trombones. It just encourages them." Richard Wagner
For a while, played alto clarinet, enjoyed playing this counter melody along with the trombones and baritones. And other good ones in Sousa marches.
Only 75 more and you could lead a big parade...
smwca123 ... It's the only way to keep our kids out of the pool hall!.
Their precision is simply immaculate.
+Alexander Sears USMC Band- virtually every member has a degree in music from a college or conservatory. Openings are rare and auditions fierce.
Commander Straker ... Truly professional level orchestras are everywhere, but this level of musicianship in a band is rare.
But completely boring...
I concur!
what does that meen
I like the trumpet. I would like to play the trumpet.
do it.
Do it! I taught myself with very few lessons!! I went on to learn every other instrument in band!! I sure miss those days
I played the trumpet and still get goose bumps when I hear these marches.
@@jeremystepp8352 every other instrument?
One of the trumpeters here (Master Sergeant Matthew Harding) can be heard in another video playing the trumpet part of “Penny Lane” in the White House. Worth a listen.
Always been my second favorite of John Phillip Sousa's marches - right behind 'The Stars and Strips Forever'
Same to me.
I love how balanced the sound is. I can hear all of the parts being played!
The baritone/euph players are absolutely transcendent. Its not easy to be heard playing a similar part with the trombones, but whoever is playing has such beautiful tone you can really hear it 👌💯
Yes, wonderful, singing tone from Mark Jenkins, principal euph!
One of the clarinets got into it a lot more than the others.
theres always one
I think he was “first chair” if I remember correctly there are 4 clarinet parts.
@@lautburns4829 yes I’m aware how it is
I'll try all clarinet parts and see which one is for me.
I play bass clarinet it’s fun there’s a lot of repeating
this was Sousa's favorite March. at the university of Pittsburgh, we marched on the file playing it
IIRC he awarded thst distinction to Semper Fidelis.
When I was 6 years old way back in the 1950s I went to see a film called marching along the film was about sousa I was this film at a cinema in Bradford West Yorkshire England I am 68 now and I have been marching along ever since now a days a little slower but when I hear these marches unlike me they never age hands across the sea and SEMPER FIDELIS
"Marching Along" was the apt title of John Philip Sousa's autobiography, circa 1928.
"Have no fear, the man of bronze is here/Peace will come to all who find/Doc Savage, Doc Savage"
This is being played in the Philippines by the Philippine Army Band, Philippine National Police Band, Philippine Marine Corps Band, Philippine Military Academy Band....during Military & Police Parades....
If anyone here has seen the real snare part, the end of it is just a long series of 7 stroke rolls, essentially just one continuous tap roll... a pain in the ass to play for 20 seconds straight
+CGJ7755 were playing this in 7th-8th adanced symphonic orchistra and i have to do the bass part and the snare part AT THE SAME TIME try that
+Madamerandthemic is awesome I'm trying to imagine how.... I can see being able to play offbeats and some rythyms, but not the rolls one handed.
CGJ7755 i dont do the crash another person does
+Madamerandthemic is awesome I could do it if I had a floor bass and pedal... Otherwise you need two hands to play the 7 seven stroke rolls and other roll rudiments.
yea
Most of us are used to hearing kids in school bands, it's amazing to hear such a top-tier performance.
Great march! Love it just as much as "Stars and Stripes Forever"! Truly, America's very own March King! All hail! And to our great country too!
I love it when the camera focuses on the correct instruments.
We do too! Our engineers make it happen.
Proud to have been part of America's few. Once a Marine allways a Marine.
Thank you for your service!!
Thank you for your service and may God Bless you and may God Bless America.
Que execução perfeita, a banda está de Parabéns. nunca tinha ouvido uma banda assim, com certeza é a melhor banda de música do mundo!!!
VERY WONDERFUL😆‼️

I love this tune I wish the ending would last a few more bars. This is such feel good song.
I was supposed to play this for my school concert but now it’s corona time
Hello. It's amazing March thanks god bless you and bless American people
This piece is very great, happy to hear it..my father played this beautiful march of Sousa, you are wonderful, thank you
The cameras and editors need to focus on the baritones. In The Thunderer, they have best lines!
What would America have done without John Phillips Sousa, we would have trouble finding any music for fourth of July.
I’m in 8th grade it high-school band and we are playing this for our concert in may.
What 99 people gave this a thumbs DOWN? This is a classic! (and also the official HOUDINI theme)
They’re children, mostly Gen Z + some Millennials. They’ve never heard of John Philip Sousa. They only know Travis Scott, Ye, Maroon 5, The Chainsmokers, and others who have bastardized music. I doubt there’s an American 40-45+ who doesn’t have at least some appreciation for Sousa’s music.
1:06 is the best part when Bb starts.
Here's to you, Dad! He would blast this from the stereo on Saturday mornings to get us up and out of bed. I'm sure the neighbors loved it. I took the album when they downsized.
I have fond memories of playing this in my high school Marching Band. I find it fascinating to hear it with perfect tone and dynamics, played by a professional ensemble, as the high school kids couldn't do it justice.
My band received the piece today and I received the cornet solo part
I love this band so much, it's hard to choose what they do best, but when they do those pp strains, it kills me how GREAT it is!!!!
I love military music and military band! God bless all you! 🙏😇❤️🙏😇❤️
During the pandemic- 🎶 keeps my spirits ☝...US MARINE BAND...& CHAMBER ORCHESTRA...God bless 🇺🇸!
Son I have the first part solo for this in band and it’s my first solo. I was shaking when I got it this morning.
Kto ze "Szkoły Druciarstwa" ? 😂😂
Forget 'CRT'. Let our children listen to "The President's Own" every morning walking into school. Nothing more needs to be said.
Excellent comment.
Trombonist here. First march I ever played and I was hooked.
But this is the TAMEST performance I have ever heard, even if technically immaculate. So uninspired.
What a silly statement. This is brilliant, and played as Sousa would have played it.
@@LyleFrancisDelp If you say so. Doesn’t sound like any Sousa performances I’ve heard but I’m no expert either. Musical tastes are never worth arguing over. You dope…. 😉
i am italian but i am proud for your himmns
! ...respect!
First heard this 46 years ago while watching the Brady Bunch Pom-Pom girls tryouts. Glad to finally know title and composer of this song!
I'll play this on my clarinet. Go, Sousa! I named it Clara.
What a march! The counter melodies: so ingenious! The forward momentum! The percussion! Pefection!!
This was the first ever march I ever played with my school band. Thanks for the memories!!!!!
An exceptional performance!
HOORAY !!
I played this in band in school quite a few years ago. I was a trumpet player
Right now Im playing this in high school band, and it's seriously no joke. Especially the clarinet part 😅😭
What a great march; what a great piece of music! Thank you JPS!
When you've been in war, this piece carries much weight about the US
what an awesome awesome march tune - love it
I love this march! Voted for it today, March 6, 2023
Very smart! America must be só proud. Greetings from South Africa 😍😄😍
I hate your video. You totally cut out the tuba section with the slight exception of a shot across the orchestra that lasted maybe 0.5 seconds. This piece would be nowhere without the boom boom baboom boom boom of the tuba section. Aside from the lousy videography the music is great.
Mówiłem Ci Justyna, że nadejdzie sprawiedliwość dziejowa, Ty niestety nie masz na to wpływu.
Sousa was a goddam genius.
Geniales.....Saludos y Felicitaciones desde Argentina....Soy Marines retirado
The camera man could not pinpoint a Tuba or Euphonium if they life depended on it...Fail
Jan Brady trying out for the Pom Pom squad. Enormous fail. 🤣🤪
Where is the minute commercial? I don‘t see anything American without commercial within every 2 Minutes.
Why does it say LIVE on the side bar and this is a July 1, 2015 video recording???
We play this during the Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philly, we are the honor band :)
Very prestigious.
Una bella marcia
Very memorable song for me, played it 23 years ago in my 7th grade band concert
im in a high school band and we are playing this piece at a festival, it is tons of fun especially when you get in to it
Playing this in my 8th grade band
same dood
Not as good though
Same. also playing "Stars and Stripes Forever"
I played it at all district and it sounded fucking amazing.
JohnJohnTheLeprechaun I currently playing in seventh grade scrubs get on my music level XD
Written to honour The Times newspaper, which is also known as The Thunderer.
2018 ?🙋🙋
I love this song so much, I can barely here my Tuba brothers though, just trombones.
That's why you need sousaphones instead of tubas 1 sousaphone can outplay an entire band that's what the sumbitch was designed for.
Ain't nothing louder and better then a freaking sousaphone
I know how the guy playing bass clarinet feels I've played for about 6 years and I've always been the only bass clarinet
+Laughing “LJ” Jack Don't worry, he has a friend: www.marineband.marines.mil/Members/Musicians/Woodwind/BassClarinet.aspx
In HS in Nebraska, I was one of three bass clarinets, we marched 105 people. Our bass clarinets were owned by the school. Mine was the oldest. We were marching in a Christmas parade and the bell fell off the bottom! The person behind me saw it and scooped it up without breaking formation. We laughed about that!
This is such a Happy tune a real toe-tapper I think it's one of Souza's greatest.
Semper Fi
is this some kind of joke?
@@broogz it's the marines moto. It means Always Faithful.
Those 167 dislikes came from Sousa haters 😠😠
Oops, my bad. This is not the Field Band. Sorry. Keep it up, guys, great work, musically speaking that is. JPhS is lovely to listen to.
Gostaria de assistir um dia essa super orquestra ao vivo em um teatro, da vontade
Long live USA!!!
I hope @SimonFransman turns this into giant steps
Beautiful music
God Bless our Troops
John Philip Sousa was a great Ameirican compose.
This is an arrangement. Does that matter? No. Arranging takes the skill of a composer.
And, I shoud know; I am one.
The only people to care are musicians that come on UA-cam! They speak truths and want to help me whereas NOONE in Mount Vernon Georgia will do Anything to help me!!! Sticky Fingers Band had come on a Rescue Tour from overseas because they care about me and feel sorry for me and want to help! But they are being threatened and having to hide out! But, Phillip Smith, a stalker and very bad dude's mail is forwarded from prison in Alamo to my new address! And I have been wanting to get away from him. And I had some conversations with him on Messenger a few months back and because I shared my feelings about the band, he has threatened them, too!
GREAT!!!!
Im going to this in my school's bell chior
Who's watching this this pandemic?
Sousa could sure put down a melody.
