- TalkTV's Julia Hartley-Brewer is furious about the new anti-hate speech laws in Scotland, which have garnered 'immense' criticism online.
The Harry Potter author, who has become a fierce critic of the Scottish Government’s stance on transgender rights, has been one of the highest profile critics of the legislation.
The Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act came into effect on Monday, consolidating existing hate crime legislation and creating a new offence of stirring up hatred against protected characteristics.
However, women have not been given protection under the law, with the Scottish Government instead promising to bring forward legislation to tackle misogyny.
Julia says: "This is not pro-trans, this is anti-women."

In some ways it would be of benefit if such a high profile figure was sent to jail (and she might well approve). The pubic support/outrage will be enormous and could well knock sense into the minds of these woke politicians who are so disconnected from the needs of the ordinary working person. The law was passed on 23.4.2021 back when he was justice secretary and a woman named Nicola Sturgeon was First Minister. This is not an Islamic plot 🙄.
This information is free and very easy to find.
The argument Katie’s made is designed to provoke a fearful response from people. A fearful response feels more real and impactful to people than a nuanced, logical, true one. That’s why it’s so appealing to believe the sinister, dramatic plot.
Typically that’s a tactic of the extreme left: lying or being wilfully ignorant of facts in order to wrongfully confirm people’s biases, but here I see it being used by conservatives too.

This law was passed back on 23.4.21 when he was still failing as Cabinet Secretary for Justice.
Side note: He wasn’t responsible for putting Isla Bryson in a women’s prison. His successor - Keith Brown - ordered the prison service to do that.
Thankfully, the news story gained traction internationally so that madness was intervened, but only temporarily. However, they’re now reintroducing blatantly male prisoners into women’s prison estates. Female prisoners don’t get a say but I hope they raise hell whilst they’re in custody. One thing about prisoners is they’re unafraid to fight their way out of a corner 🥊
This law is to scare people into silence. That’s why it’s deliberately vague with terms like “stirring up hatred”. Pretty much all arrests will have this charge added to the list, in a country with an already huge list of backdated court cases thanks to the pandemic.
So Humza finally gets his blasphemy law in through the back door by tacking on a few minority groups. Utterly disgusting, you can get 7 years in prison for insulting a fairy tale.
Not in a Scottish prison they won't. Prisons are overflowing and this new prison of theirs is behind schedule and over budget (like most government projects). The damning thing is if you get this on your record, you can kiss any chances of gaining employment goodbye. This will encourage crime and unemployment.
Hate is a very strong word and I don't think there are that many hateful people out there. Just folk that are either poorly educated or have some chips on their shoulders about society, but I don't think those people invest much energy on hating people.
How do you define 'hate' as well? It is going beyond disliking someone. Hate, like love means different things to diffferent people, so I hope this legislation has it's definitions nailed down hard.

He has to appease the Green Party, which is propping up his administration. It's an interesting Q whether the SNP would be so full on with the gender lunacy if it had an outright majority and could ignore the Greens. Humza and the SNP are woke as hell, though, so I expect they would. The trans stuff and the Islamic blasphemy law stuff aren't as contradictory as you might think. Both ideologies/religions are anti-women and anti-gay; look at the enthusiasm for transitioning gay people in Iran, for example.

In the west, it used to be that earning freedom meant fighting in wars. Now you earn freedom piece by piece with money, status and influence. I’m probably oversimplifying things a bit but it juuuust seems that it’s only the most vulnerable people that are impacted by these laws ie. The voiceless.
Men in dresses’ rights are now protected, but not the innocent women or children who don’t want female-exclusive spaces invaded, who don’t want their dignity and decency defiled?
I haven’t even mentioned the outright abuse that this invites. I know, as a man, I have no place in a woman’s bathroom, changing room, or shelter. Common sense. J K Rowling (nor the other gender critical people) is not expressing a belief, she is stating a fact. You cannot change your sex, no matter what you believe. That is not to say you cannot dress as you please, or call yourself by any name you choose, provided it is not to hide illegal acts.
But stop forcing women to lose their place in society, and their safe spaces.
We need to educate people on what is science and what is belief, far better than we appear to have done to date, if this thinking is what current and previous teaching has brought about.

This law sounds all too familiar in our history … 1930s and 1940s Germany … children were encouraged to tell the authorities of anything heard in the home that was deemed ‘anti-Nazi’.

I’m not sure why the Scottish Parliament should have been allowed to bring in such legislation, which may also affect all UK Nationals who have had no say in the Scottish elections. When do the English get their own Parliament? And why should new arrivals in our country immediately be allowed to vote - shouldn’t there be a qualifying period of say 5 years.

They need to recognize how all these migrants are driving old cars,back the years,and no tax r Insurance,the local town to me I was on my way to a supermarket,and a 03 car pulled out and turned left without even looking,We know when we see the old cars who's driving them,I was able to stop,the car happened to be going into the supermarket where I was going,if anyone was walking towards their car,they driver wouldn't have been able to stop,I went into a space near em,4 fellas in their 20s got out,no tax insurance nct,all they bought in the supermarket was slabs of cheap alcohol beer and spirits,there's so many of em,the Garda has to know what's going on,God forbid they hit your car in the carpark,or crash and hurt or kill someone,they can do a runner and never be found..it's an absolute disgrace,We need to stop paying 100s or more a year for NCTs,if u have 08 r below,so many r failing on emissions,I know of people who it failed,done nothing to the car,but had to pay for the retest,and passed,The sooner this Green agenda stops,rid of Cabbage head,in the last month,his put money on bottles or cans,Every house r paying already very expensive bin costs,fuel is gone up,and Insurance is going up by at least 30%,no 1 will ask why..Were far right for asking questions as to why all this extra money is been taking off us,as for the cost of living,I find it's getting dearer every week,all the supermarkets r charging the same,but we haven't any problems in Ireland,Were the wealthiest Country...
