I have no problem buying a good clone, as long as it's sold as a clone.
So many are passed off as the real deal and its kind of disgusting
Glad I watched this vid the person on eBay didn’t take a pic of the knife facing up and down probably for that reason I purchased it an hour ago canceled the order.
People who make videos like this. Informing people what is real and what isn't are really helping people make the right decision. People who don't like these videos have most likely paid full price for a copy
@@neilhamill318 I've wanted to remove them many times. I leave em up incase there's a chance they'll help one more person.
@@apex_alchemy_knives I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates the effort you both in making the videos and keeping people informed. Cheers.👍
@@neilhamill318 thanks man
Thanks for sharing the information as always. It's sad these things exist but I'm glad to see the shared knowledge.
That's what it's all about 🍺🤘
I've been carrying the $12 version. It's handy because I'll use it where I won't use a good knife. I dug mushrooms out of rocky soil last week.
The steel, whatever it is, is soft. But it sharpens up fast & easy in a Worksharp pull through.
I calculated the cost, adjusted for inflation, and it compares to a $2.00 counter knife when I was a kid. Dead on. What the BugOut has over those old knives is the quality of the design. They were cheap steel slip joint knives (no brass) that rusted easily. They were perfect for a one use knife, a glove box, or a training knife for a kid that was going to lose it quickly. I received several myself.
The clone plastic is better than the plastic back then. And it's stainless. So it's a bargain when it's on sale on Ali & other online Chinese stores. The box is useful for storing other miscellaneous stuff. But I gotta ask: Why is a storage bag included by Benchmade or counterfeiters for a plastic handled knife? (If you're storing yours in it, you got issues).
It's too thick to use as a condom. Too long for a coin purse. Too small for eyeglasses. Useless. Or so.i thought. Then I realized it fits my extra .380 magazine. Bingo!
Dollar for dollar you're right. If they can make a good knife...surely they could sell it either their own logo on it. That was the part that got to me. You right about the bag. 🤣🤣
The easiest way to pick out a fake benchmade is if it's factory sharp its probably fake
😂😂 True 🤘
What do you mean by factory sharp? I just bought a full immunity and on the back of the box it says factory sharp :/
He means benchmades are usually not as sharp as they could be , out of the box. 😎🤘
Mine was sharp out the box
@@riffedwood5597 yeah they better cut straight outta the box. Sharp and factory sharp are usually perceived as two different things. I've had good luck with factory edges on 940s and I've had meh edges on others. 😎🤘
Another great comparison video y’all
Possibly the last, I think we have everything covered that we can cover now in that sector. 👊😎
I dont want a true counterfeit bugout, but I would gladly use a clone of the bugout. Sure I'd rather have an original, but they cost several time more than they are actually worth. Many of the clone/counterfeit bugouts available are very close to the original in build quality, lacking only in the blade steel. They are often sold as 154cm or some quality steel while actually being a lesser quality steel. Some are made with decent steel though, like 8cr13mov, or 440c and cost between $20 and $50. I'd gladly use a 440c bugout clone for $30. At that point, it doesn't seem worth an additional $270 just to have the 154cm blade with the butterfly logo on it. (Carbon fiber version $300).
If benchmade would put a reasonable price tag on their knife, it wouldn't make so much sense to knowingly buy a fake or a clone. I have a 530 Pardue that was given to me and I love it, but I would *never* have paid $110 for it. It's a great knife, just not $110 great.
@@flatasacueball6326 lots of good points.
i have an original and a copy, and i cant really tell the difference.
Check out CJRB. They make a copy, and its great. I bought three, gave two as gifts, and have a BM bug and a mini. Im not afraid to use the CJRB. i dont want to break the BM.
If you can find a clone that uses D2 steel, that’s not bad at all. I think that the super steels are kind of overrated anyway. I can sharpen up cheaper steals to hair splitting sharp on a Spyderco sharpmaker very easily
@joshj7012 I think there are some that are claimed to be D2, but I wouldn't expect honesty from a company that makes counterfeit knives. My bugout clone said it was s35vn, but it almost definitely is not. It's at least as good as 8cr13mov or better, so I'll take it.
I got a BM Narrows clone recently, and it totally looks the part. The blade is marked and sold as m390, but it only cost $20, so... likely not. The steel is, however, quite hard and takes a good edge and performs about like D2. It's not too bad for being $500 cheaper than a real one.
Bass pro sold me a bug out with terrible blade centering and no matter what I did it would not go straight they said they don’t take returns for Benchmade but they let me take the display one home and it was perfect
Tip: Put a label on the real or fake knife. Its confusing AF to follow which knife is in your hand.
They do put a label, it's the price tag 😊
You didn’t mention the Torx on the pivot screw.
Always T10 on a genuine Benchmade. On the copies it is almost always smaller. This is readily visible and can be easily distinguished.
@@RetirednbrokeinPa great additional info. I was thinking about taking these old videos down. You think they still help anyone?
Likely. In the past six months I was snookered. Good thing for Visa Credit. They got my money refunded ASAP.
@@apex_alchemy_knivesjust bought a pre owned storm gray bugout on ebay and it confirmed mine is real!
I changed the video after he and his lady rambled for 4 minutes…..there are WAY better vids than this to learn the diff on the bench made knives……
Thanks for the feedback 😎
Great video!
Thanks Randy. We very much appreciate you watching! Hope to see you later on tonight at our live bro.
I have one of these clones, think I gave 19 dollars for it not a bad knife?
The channel where the Axis lock slides is titanium. Just take off a scale and see if a magnet sticks to it. Had a guy a few years ago try to sell me a Benchmade ballisong. He stated the handles were titanium. Brought a kitchen magnet with me. Nope. Saved me over $200 at the time.
Good info 👊
Grabbed a fake from temu for $12
What ya think about it ? Is it junky?
@apex_alchemy_knives nah, it is actually decent. I got a Blue Bugout. I have NEVER held a real Benchmade so I wouldn't know the feel and weight. It feels really light weight. The Axis Lock works fine, blade deploys quickly and using the Axis Lock, it closes up just as easy. I'd say it's well worth the $12. I wouldn't pay more though.
In all honesty I wouldn't be able to tell with reference to a real one
They're getting stupid good at deception
This is great, but how do we know if the steel in the fake is what they say it is? Anyway to tell that? Thank you for this.
It's not. I have friends who have taken the blades to a grinder. The steel is always soft...and barely passable as steel. What these things are, are nothing more than an object shaped like the real thing. Like a model car. You can look at it. You can roll it across a table, but you shouldn't depend on it for reliability.
For most people use case, including yours, basically opening Amazon boxes, that'll do just fine
I've done some comparisons to and then Ali Express cut me off and I'm pretty sure that's why but I don't care I don't like getting screwed over buying a clone playing the real I don't mind buying clones to use but I don't like when people sell them as the real thing that's just dirty business. But you're right I'll talk to a lot of people that have done it unknowingly so I've made some comparison videos to showing the boxes and the the knives The Real Thing versus the Clone so people can see what's out there be careful.
👊😎
@@apex_alchemy_knives 👊🏻
The metal finish on the screws and clip of the clone is a lot more glossy as well. The logo on the fake.. the copyright R is more pronounced, larger, and in the wrong position, also the E on the fake is not very clear. There are also variations on the base of the blade near the pivot.
@@Mikes67Chevy thanks Mike 💯
@ thanks for making a great video!
@Mikes67Chevy we try lol
Are the screws on the fake one metal or plastic please?
Metal
@@apex_alchemy_knives Cheers!
The butterfly gives it away on this one, the patent mark is too big (lower right side of butterfly) compared to the real benchmade.
Unless you are a true knife nerd or have a 'real' knife model to compare with, one would be hard pressed to determine a clone from the real deal. Dead giveaway is the unbelievable low price that the clones cost. To be honest, Benchmade knives are way over priced for what you get (along with several other USA manufactured knife companies). I would rather beat up a $25 clone than a $300 Benchmade. I can buy a lot clones for $300.
I'm watching one on ebay going for $32 but not labeled bla Benchmade bugout for some reason? I think it's fake cuz there's no pics of the one side to show if it's got copper inserts or not, but the lettering is more straight up n down. So thank you for helping me dodge a bullet lol!
That does sound fake! Especially with the price being 32 bucks
@@apex_alchemy_knives well if ur getting crap for buying one, you're helping us not get screwed n buy one. So thank ya guys!🙏
20 dollars vs 280 dollars...... Yeah am going for the 20 dollars knife thank you
The steel is junk , hrc at 45
I have a real one I love it it cuts so smooth holds it edge nicely and I just put purple titanium hardware and micarta scales and it feels even better
You get what you pay for.
Absolutely...well, not always but the benchmade is superior.
@@KnifeFeind when you pay 200 and get garbage?
They got that one close.
Damn i bought one and started investigating to find out it's a fake
Happens to the best of us at some point bro. Don't feel bad. 😎🤘
Comment reconnaître un américain: il achète un un faux Bugout au prix d'un vrai, ou un vrai au prix de 10 faux. Tous les autres achètent le faux, tout aussi bon.
How to spot a French person - too poor to buy a real Bugout, so they convince themselves that the fake is the same thing
fuck. i bought a fake😂 found a bug out with jade scales, gold screws, and deep carry clip at a knife store for $150 (i may have been very drunk). i thought they were pawned but after i paid dude said they buy all their knives from TSA. he probably lied, def sold me a fake buggout. oh well. i’ll beat on it for a while then buy a real one
That's not very cool 😕
Those gold screws are dead give away
Absolutely correct
FYI the thumb studs have the exact same amount of steps/grooves , 3 and 2 respectively. So that point is not relevant on this video
I just went back and rewatched and zoomed in. There were definitely 3 distinct steps on the real thumbstuds and only 2 on the fake. There are definitely other versions and makers of clones that may have addressed this difference but the fake we had in hand, the thumbstuds were different. Thanks for watching--Courtney
See you later 👋🏻 11:45
Absolutely !
This is cringe AF
So much cringe going on these days
