i'm living for the shade you're throwing at dystopians in the beginning people always ask me to do favorite dystopians and i'm like ?????????????????? is this 2013? do dystopians even get published anymore? you've just given me a burning urge to reread shatter me omg i've been wanting to read the call!!!!
also fun fact: i was scrolling through the other noobs guides you posted & i actually requested this two years ago on one of the previous ones so thanks for finally coming through XD
raya's channle There is one series I've heard about a lot and I'm really excited to start reading called Captive Prince by CS Pacat, it's Adult & fantasy genre and M&M romance. And omg yas!! We need an adult books list, I feel like a lot of us that got really into YA and the reading world have now grown up and while I still really do enjoy YA we also want to read more about older characters our age like in their 20s for me personally.
LOL THIS WAS THE LONGEST NOOBS!!! Literal (unintentional) Queen of Dystopia. Pretty sure your Divergent booktalks was one of the first videos of yours I had watched.
Honestly I love The Selection, I think they're beautiful books and like they're my children, the only real problem is how *frustrating* they are because of indecisiveness
The genre has been around for quite some time. Early dystopian works date back hundreds of years. Dozen upon dozens of notable works came into being during the last century, mainly due to the political climate of the period in question. The eary 2010s may have been the heyday of young adult romance dystopia, but they certainly weren't the heyday of the genre in its entirety. From a cultural perspective, not even the Hunger Games can compare to 1984, a book that has impacted our culture so deeply that many of our dystopia-related expression have their roots in it. Who among us hasn't heard of Big Brother? The thought police? Room 101? Many would agree that Orwell has created our idea of what a dystopian world should be like. The shadows that once lit the fire of Orwell's inspiration are far from gone. We live in the most dire of times; old demons have awakened from their slumber, and humanity's future appears grim and forbidding. An environment that will, without the shadow of a doubt, foster the creation of many a dystopian masterpiece. Although, taking what became the norm and was once thought dreadfully authoritarian into consideration, these new works will make 1984 a comforting read that harkens back to a brighter past.
The Mad Hatter Channel no please God no the hunger game is honestly the only good dystopian series. And the films unfortunately came out on the genres last days
Yaryna there are many! Like The Coldest Girl in Cold Town, Vicious ( I think Vicious is now going to be a series(?), but it was originally a stand alone), Illusions of Fate, The Host, etc. I believe Kat ( from Katytastic) has a video where she talks about her favorite standalones! You should check it out! :)
Divergent (aided by your booktalk, and me discovering your channel) is what made me read 100000 books in 2012/2013 and really got me back into reading in a way I didn't think would happen.
Just to let you know, the giver is a series as well- it's four books, and the first three are all completely separate stories that all come together in the fourth. Just letting you know if you haven't read it already- It's fantastic!
I stopped reading years ago because I was too busy raising a family but now my kids are grown and just started reading again and I've got a lot to catch up on to say the least. It seems books have turned into series so much to read. I'm reading shatter me and I'm loving it! Love your videos!
this is giving me such throwback feels to the early booktube years. Used to read these books and watch every single booktubers' review on it, especially christine's!!
CHRISTINE. I need you to read Penryn and the end of the days because I read that series because of you and I LOVED it. AND I NEED YOU TO READ IT BECAUSE YOUR BOOKTALKS ARE PART OF MY READING EXPERIENCE AND I NEED THAT BOOKTALK PLEASE
Omg, this was such a trip down memory lane😂 I read all of these series but didn't finish Reached, The Infinite Sea, and End of Days (and didn't pick up The Call). I've been Dystopianed-out. 😅 BUT LONG LIVE THE DYSTOPIAN ERA, we had some good times. Booktube has branched out to other genres now, but it feeeelss like we're currently in a fantasy/contemporary era.
I LOVED the selection! IT WAS MY FAVORITE BOOK before booktube, but now I have different favorites, but I still love them cause of the nostalgic feeling I get when I was young
I loved this video so much! Thanks, Christine! But, personally, I feel like you're missing some critical dystopian novels. The books you mentioned are all young adult books (there is, of course, nothing wrong with that at all), but there's also dystopian literature! For example, 1984 by George Orwell, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. Just wanted to mention this ;D I hope some of you will pick one of these up!

I was so excited to hear you talk about the legend series as a guy I still enjoyed those books. and as someone who hasn't read since the end of Harry Potter I jumped right back into reading with those books they got me really addicted and the pace of them were fantastic
i love how i have my math and science ministry exams tomorrow that i should be studying for YET i find myself here, watching this video. Followed by rewatching a bunch of your other vids cuz binge watching booktube vids is SO MUCH BETTER than passing mid terms. PRIORITIES!! 👍 🤘
Xtine you should read The V Girl by Mya Roberts and the queen of all that dies by laura Thalassa. They're so unique dystopians, really different stuff! So so good! One is about a society where sexual slavery is legal and virgins get raped all the time so this girl will try to lose it before it happes against her will.Benjamin of tomes has a booktalk. The other is like the villian is the hero!! But it's not like shatter me is darker than that. No one has reviewed yet on youtube be the first one!!
Unwind series, Battle Royale, 1984, Read Player One, Brave New World, The Handmaid's tale, Wool series, Logan's Run, Incarceron, SlagutherHouse-Five, Maze Runner, Lord of the flies so many good ones she hasn't even read.
Christine, you should definitely read the Lockwood and Co series. It's amazing. A very creepy, haunting, exciting, humorous, sarcastic, always on the edge of your seat kinda book. I LOVE IT. it's one of my most favourite series and you would definitely get the chills when you read it. Just don't read it at places you find creepy and at night alone.
I loved this video!! I'm a huge fan of dystopian novels so it was awesome to get some recommendations too!! Love these kind of videos!!!! Also I'm super excited about your book!! I'm gonna buy it as soon as it goes to the stores!!
I love these type of videos! So many good recommendations! I could see how it would take forever to film and edit, though, so thanks for taking the time to do it!
I'm reading the AshFall series by Mike Mullen right now. It's really good! I'm currently on the third book and he's coming out with a fourth soon. It's more end of the world, but I really like this series. In some ways it's just like all the other dystopian novels, but in other ways it is so unique. You should definitely check these out.
ELLA A The last one is a prequel and a conclusion to the whole series. First it takes place before/at the same time as The Giver and later it continues Messenger
Ishwariya Gopal The whole quartet is great. First they seem so much worse than the first one but you have to read the whole quartet to get everything out of the story.
I do want to read dystopian books, just not with the same plots. I read The V girl, Angelfall, Born trilogy, Unwind, Starters, Branded and in my opinion they are very different than the bunch. I love them.
did you read the uglies series by Scott westerfield? i thought it was a great but it was one of my first dystonian reads though so i could be bias lol it had some really cool ideas in it but kind of shallow
I'm glad you did this bc it reminded me of dystopian series I started but didn't finish bc at the time I felt them redundant like you said. And yes, The Host is SO underrated! Okay, off to read book 2 of the Delirium series now. 😊
I tried reading Legend twice but I could never get into it! I bought the whole boxed set before trying it though so every time I look at it on my shelf I die of guilt for not actually reading it.
No 1984? Brave New World? Fahrenheit 451? Animal Farm? Anthem? Atlas Shrugged? Lord of the Flies? We? The Machine Stops? Iron Heel? The Sleeper Awakes? Minority Report? A Clockwork Orange? Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? The Long Walk? Handmaid's Tale? Battle Royale?
your the best. keep being you. you help me through my hard times and give me great ideas. as I watching this video I was writing all the books you recommended! I love u so much!
I wasn't a part of the 2010 rise and fall of Dystopian. I was 9 and just getting into Harry Potter. Didn't read the Hunger Games until 2012. I'm loving these noob guides. Please make more. What about one for spy novels? Or zombie books?
I agree most dystopian series are really hard to reread but I think you should check out the Uglies series, Its my favorite and I've reread it multiple times :)
Christine, you should read "What's left of me" by Kat Zhang. It's a really good book. It takes place in this society where two souls live in one body and when they grow older one of them dies. The main character is a soul who was supposed to die, but doesn't and she has no control over her own body. It sort of gives off that dystopian vibe, but it is completely unique and the way the story is told is really interesting.
Completely agree that everyone should try out The Call!!! I got it for Christmas and I wasn't sure about it at first. It usually takes me at least a week to finish any book but I finished it in a day because I loved it so much. Anto is my favorite :)
I really love this series discussing books from each genre!!! I find it super helpful! But I would have thought Host and 5th wave would have fallen into the sci-fi genre?
To anyone of you who are thinking of reading the selection: Go read the first THREE books and treat it as a trilogy . And NEVER NEVER READ THE FORTH AND THE FIFTH! cause you will regret it .
I've only just gotten into dystopian last year and this was very useful to me. I loved this video and am looking forward to reading a lot of these books. I guess I'm pretty late, but better late then never, right?
Amelle Kyre thanks, i might pick it up and give it a shot. I need a few days to morn Scythe though. I finished it yesterday and it is now on my Shelf reserved for my all time favorite books.
I know about Scythe, though I haven't read it yet. I've read a lot of his books, though, and they're all amazing. so I'm expecting Scythe will also be amazing!
I loved the host so much, it was honestly the only book from stephanie meyers that I liked. Also could you do one of these videos for sci-fi books books?
"i want to read a dystopian every once in a.... BACK IN 2010."
most accurate thing ever.
i'm living for the shade you're throwing at dystopians in the beginning
people always ask me to do favorite dystopians and i'm like ?????????????????? is this 2013? do dystopians even get published anymore?
you've just given me a burning urge to reread shatter me omg
i've been wanting to read the call!!!!
also fun fact: i was scrolling through the other noobs guides you posted & i actually requested this two years ago on one of the previous ones so thanks for finally coming through XD

raya's channle There is one series I've heard about a lot and I'm really excited to start reading called Captive Prince by CS Pacat, it's Adult & fantasy genre and M&M romance. And omg yas!! The Mad Hatter Channel no please God no the hunger game is honestly the only good dystopian series. And the films unfortunately came out on the genres last days

You should make a noob's guide to standalones
Kokuma Jutsu I haven't read any standalones that aren't contemporary 🤔
Yaryna there are many! Like The Coldest Girl in Cold Town, Vicious ( I think Vicious is now going to be a series(?), but it was originally a stand alone), Illusions of Fate, The Host, etc.
I believe Kat ( from Katytastic) has a video where she talks about her favorite standalones! You should check it out! :)
Yeah I mean I'm intermediate level at it, but I dont really read stand alone very much
I really need a noob's guide to fantasy 102

have you ever read "Red Queen" From Victoria Aveyard??
this is giving me such throwback feels to the early booktube years. Used to read these books and watch every single booktubers' review on it, especially christine's!!
Dystopian is still my favorite genre. You just need to try wattpad stories, indie authors, small publishers.
and classic dystopians!
1984 and Logan''s run are amazing.
Thanks, most of them are amazing and missing from this list.
Omg yes! Thank you for recognizing and promoting The Host!!!! I fell in love with that book and I place it above the Twilight series for sure.
when she first said "the selection" i thought she said "this election" and i was like damn... that truly is a dystopian thrill ride

LOL when she says "back in 2010" that got me laughing.
Dystopian and Fantasy are my favorite books.

I loooove the brightness and colorfulness of your videos!!!
THE GIVER IS A QUARTET I DIDNT KNOW THIS WHEN I READ IT THE FIRST TIME NEED THE OTHER BOOKS LIKE PLEASEEEE

I just can't get over how much I love your personality -- you should do fantasy next!!
I do want to read dystopian books, just not with the same plots. I read The V girl, Angelfall, Born trilogy, Unwind, Starters, Branded and in my opinion they are very different than the bunch. I love them.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS. Love you!!!!!
what do you think of maze runner series?

Jack Gleeson nope nope nope nope
I made the mistake of buying all the books and I can't finish them. But I guess that I'm just tired of dystopian
Christine please do an updated tour of THE IRON BOOKSHELF or the contemporary bookcase
YOU FREAKING MADE MY DAY! I have never been this early and I honestly feel so cool XD
I'm glad you did this bc it reminded me of dystopian series I started but didn't finish bc at the time I felt them redundant like you said. And yes, The Host is SO underrated! Okay, off to read book 2 of the Delirium series now. 😊
Who was the girl that was from your town that's on the bachelor?
I tried reading Legend twice but I could never get into it! I bought the whole boxed set before trying it though so every time I look at it on my shelf I die of guilt for not actually reading it.
The Lone Reader I love Legend!! Try again!
The Lone Reader legend is FABULOUS. give it a go ^_^

Please do a noobs guide to classics!
Kamryn Larsen Yes!
She rarely reads outside the YA genre, that's why this video lacked the best dystopians books out there.
I wasn't a part of the 2010 rise and fall of Dystopian. I was 9 and just getting into Harry Potter. Didn't read the Hunger Games until 2012.
I'm loving these noob guides. Please make more. What about one for spy novels? Or zombie books?
The unwind dystology is a great dystopian series. 10/10 would recommend.
You are the reason I started reading again! Much love!!
I guess I'm definitely not a noob. 😅 I have read ALL of these books!
Please, everyone needs to read "Under Different Stars"!!! Just DO IT!
I agree most dystopian series are really hard to reread but I think you should check out the Uglies series, Its my favorite and I've reread it multiple times :)
I feel like all the good books came out when I was too young to read them.
I love love love all your noob's guides!!
I realized i love dystopian books
Me, too! I don't care if they aren't trendy.
CHRISTINE I LOVE THIS KIND OF VIDEO SO MUCH!!! ❤
Whenever you make another noob's guide can it pleaseee be a fantasy part 2
+
Christine, you should read "What's left of me" by Kat Zhang. It's a really good book. It takes place in this society where two souls live in one body and when they grow older one of them dies. The main character is a soul who was supposed to die, but doesn't and she has no control over her own body. It sort of gives off that dystopian vibe, but it is completely unique and the way the story is told is really interesting.
YAY IM EARLY!! I love the infernal devices ❤️😭⭐️
LOVED this video! As a lover of dystopian books, this was the perfect recommendation video! :)
No Unwind?
Unwind is way better than Darkest minds and matched.
Completely agree that everyone should try out The Call!!! I got it for Christmas and I wasn't sure about it at first. It usually takes me at least a week to finish any book but I finished it in a day because I loved it so much. Anto is my favorite :)
The maze runner is the best. Many people are sheeps and are ready to trash it because Xtine hates it, but it's very good.
I love The Host! I haven't read it in several years though but I loved it
"the good thing we got out of that movie was imagine dragons" hahahaha :D
I really love this series discussing books from each genre!!! I find it super helpful! But I would have thought Host and 5th wave would have fallen into the sci-fi genre?
Do you like we were liars? wanna read it soon
she has a booktalk about it! :)
Harkeerat Of The Apollo Cabin really? Really want to read it now lol
Lili Horváth oh okay! Thanks for telling me about it. Must've missed it haha :)

Jordan Boucher where is de book talk...? That's what I thought.
Jordan Boucher I only saw her show it in a Haul. I didn't think she had read it.
Luke Puffer If you've read Scythe and haven't read Unwind by the same author, you definitely should. My favorite book of all time.
Amelle Kyre thanks, i might pick it up and give it a shot. I need a few days to morn Scythe though. I finished it yesterday and it is now on my Shelf reserved for my all time favorite books.
Hi Christine. You are so awesome. please post more vids
Best dystopian I've ever read: the Unwind series by Neal Shusterman.
Bobo Bottle He has a new book out called Scythe. Have you read it?
I know about Scythe, though I haven't read it yet. I've read a lot of his books, though, and they're all amazing. so I'm expecting Scythe will also be amazing!
I loved the host so much, it was honestly the only book from stephanie meyers that I liked. Also could you do one of these videos for sci-fi books books?
