As a owner of a pristine 1992 Dodge D150 I have been very pleased with the performance and reliability of this truck. This is one I'll never get rid of because it turns heads with its look and sound. 318ci internally balanced engines have a unique sound that I love. Good review. Yes the automatic transmissions from this era really are bad, yet the pump bearing that has been making noise for 100,000 miles is still hanging in there. She's just hit 179,000 and looks are factory 2 tone blue and gold, and she looks new to this day thankfully. The good Lord was looking out for me when I bought this truck.

I own that truck and agree with everything you said, especially the "play" in the steering.

    • @lifeoncarsofficial

Are they supposed to have that much play?

    • @2CabrasLocas

You can easily adjust out that play in the steering...

I have one as well as an 84 Ramcharger (suv version) and you should check the frame where the steering box attaches. Since dodge snubbed the nose a bit, shortened the wheel base, it puts mega stress right at thw steering box (go figure) and the frame spider web cracks right from the bolt holes. Had the Ramcharger welded back up and it tightened that steering considerably! Now I just need to do the same with the pick up.

I am on my 3rd one. My first was a 84 prospector with a slant 6 owned it for a year. My second was a 93 with the 318 magnum. I had drove it daily for 5 years. Had 310,000 when I sold it. My current one is a 89 with a 318 TBI. Bought it from my dad who owned it for 10 years. Had 64,000 original miles when he got it. It has 170000 on it now. I'm a ford guy but I am a sucker for the 81-93 dodges. Great trucks. The steering is a hit or miss with each one. My 93 had excellent steering and turned tight corners for a long wheel base. My 89 has loose steering and doesnt turn tight but it has the smoothest ride I've ever had in a dodge. And it gets the best fuel mileage. 18 hwy 15 in town. It has no overdrive but has a 2.70 rear end with overload springs. Personally you just cant beat these old trucks.

Couldn't agree more. I have a 85 dodge ram short bed. It definitely starts conversations. Not the same ol c10's. If done right, it can be the life of the party. And I always smile when I drive it.

I've had my 92 D150 LE since 2000 and I love it. Starts every time and runs so damn good. It's time to replace the door and window seals but otherwise the interior looks brand new. The power windows still go up and down very fast. The dash boards on these are simply indestructible. Still only 121,000 miles although since it sat outside its entire life the paint has deteriorated like most will. Yup the patina look for sure...Red/white scheme. It also came with the trick bowling ball wheels and I wouldn't ever change them. I have new (fully dressed) aluminum heads, cam, and a sniper fuel injection to go on when the motor gets tired but so far that hasn't happened. Maybe never will..oh yeah I used to have a large camper on it and used it for a ski bum vehicle for several years. I ran it hard up mountain passes with it loaded down and eventually blew out the rear end. So now it has a ford 8.8 and the original 727 trans was rebuilt with a heavy duty kit.

I'm a Kiwi lad and the be all end all where I'm from is a Hilux. However; I ended up with an 84 D150 while in Canada. At first I hated everything about it other then how it looked and sounded but this video sums up what it became from that time. Without having a choice I was forced to make it work and now I fkn love the thing ✌️ (dodge electrical 🤮)

lowered trucks look like crap...something a 14 Y/O boy would drive if they could drive. I have owned several of the old Dodge trucks loved them but they were rust buckets from the 70's right up through the 2000's. Seems like they have finally figured out how to keep them from rotting to the ground in 10 years. I bought a heavily optioned one ton 4 x 4 in 1977 brand new it was gorgeous bronze fire metallic with HD 360 and the HUGE Dana 44 axles. By 1989 I had to drag it to the junk yard it had rotted out beyond repair. The box was long gone and the cab had rotted off the frame. That was even after new doors and total paint job 5 years earlier. I have been sort of looking around for an old gen Dodge in driveable shape to putt around in but 80% of the ones I see for sale on facebook, C/L, etc. are rot boxes and everyone seems to think they are made of gold so most likely won't bother getting one.

When trucks were trucks not every city boy in a suit driving one like now. they have a lifted 4x4 truck with chrome everything And it will never even touch a dirt road or path or make its own road. I don't even know why they bother to get a 4x4 if it's never ever gonna go off road. They could just get a 2 wheel drive and lift it because it's just for looks anyway.
