Thank you SO much I have never seen that Squid thing and needed something for a portable battery just like it. Was stoked to see you reviewing this thing; I knew it looked solid but added it to my cart as soon as I saw it on your channel. You're an ace! Thanks Man!
What you describe as a pan knob is actually a balance knob, and is labeled correctly. Panning moves the sound from left to right in the stereo field. Balance adjusts how loud the left vs the right will be in the stereo field, but will not move the left to the right or the right to the left.
I've got that mixer and it's fantastic for the size and price. I use it to combine all my Korg Volca's into one output to send into my 12-Channel Mackie Mixer.
Still using one I bought around the time of this video and it's been flawless. I had one of their JUST mixers for a few weeks before that nuked itself though, so maybe I was lucky.
ART SplitMix4 is a passive 4 channel stereo mixer and costs less. Barebones and acts more like a patchbay but if you need something portable without the need of a power supply, it's incredibly useful.
I've been using this mixer for over a year. Definitely recommended! The multiple outputs is very useful being able to record and monitor output at the same time.
Hi, if you read this....would you still recommend this or have you (or anyone else) foujnd a better solution? (as a tiny mixer with panning knobs) Thnx!
I have one with my Volca set up. I have one of those 3D printed, 4 Volca, tiered stands...with a bit of finnagling, you can get this mixer to fit into the tiered stand. Then I got the Volca multi-power supply and some low profile, right-angled 1/8” cables and the whole thing is a pretty dope, self contained, one PSU set up. The mixer is kinda garbage, but if everything coming in is line level(synths) and you leave yourself enough headroom, its totally fine. I’d only use it on “toy synths” like Volcas or Teenage Engineering Pocket Operators. Ricky’s Moog (pictured in the vid) would crush the headroom of this mixer.
I got OP1 & OPZ and other gears, but they all mono, Do I need any adapter? or they will work just fine. My Dude is broken I'm looking for alternative option.
That weird behavior on the balance knob is what makes it a balance and not a pan. Pan sends a mono signal to left bus or right bus ( and odd or even). Balance, like on a stereo receiver, attenuates the stereo signal on either the left or right side. I’ve never given it any thought, but are all pan knobs on stereo mixer channels actually balance and not pans? Do they switch depending on what’s plugged in? Weird. Also, can you put a mono cable halfway in the Hart input and get the signal flowing to both sides?
I value videos like this because despite my love for DAWs, I have this desire to do live Jam Sessions on hardware alone. I also tend to be chronically low on money. I'm basically trying to come up with a setup that's budget friendly, but that I could come back to in 2 years and not look at it like a preschool keyboard that can't play 3 notes at a time. Also your voice is soothing. Thanks a ton for these!
Have you seen the Blender from TC Helicon? It costs $130 but does way more... battery or wall powered, 6 stereo inputs, 4 headphone outputs with individual mixes (could be used as aux sends or monitor mixes for band), and has a multitrack USB interface built in

So loop send the pre-fade signal of a channel to all the looped mixer, allowing each mixer to set the level of the channel? What happens if two or more mixers have an input plugged into the same channel, or should that be avoided?
Really great explanation, I'm an audio engineer and yeah, your "dasey chain" example is spot on. I would just offer that anyone considering this technique keep in mind that you will loose some quality of the original signal (sound) as it is traveling farther via the "chaining". It really only matters if your recording and you are "really" wanting the purest sound quality. Just FYI☺️

This was great but, I would love some reviews on other mixers. I need a mixer but would like a professional opinion on what to get in my price range. thanks for the top quality vids!
@@ModularLanding Many of the Behringer mixers allow you to plug a mono source into the left channel of a stereo pair and use the balance knob as an actual pan knob. That's good engineering.
I use the little 502 mixer when I sample into my Roland SP555's inputs. It has no internal panning, so a mono sample is just center in the stereo field. A work around is to sample in stereo via a mixer to your desired panning or you could record to your DAW as mono and pan there. But yeah, I'm a fan of Behringer's mixers for cost and function.

I like the little Nady 4 channel mixer for about a third of the price. It may not have the output options that this does but I think it has more input options.
I need an answer. Would this work for streamers, because if I do start streaming, I dont want to have to get a massive mixer. Can I connect a mic to this and have it go to both of my PCs thru the input?
Why not just go with something like Behringer xenyx 802 for more features (analog 3 band eq, fx send/return, real panning, xlr ins, tape in/out, etc) for $10-$20 cheaper?
depends on the needs i guess. this has faders which are fun to perform with. This mixer is lighter in weight, and a weird one but the "shaved" knobs so nothing to get snagged and snapped off? The 802 is a great mixer though!
In comparison to a "real" mixer like Mackie mixx8 do you think the loop mixer reduces audio level in live sets on big soundsystems? Or is it better to get something else for playing on big rigs?
I was looking at this to record all of my Teenage Eng Pocket Operators (KO 33, Sub, and Drum) without loss of sound quality, and I have a Triton LE controller (with built in sound bank) that has a 3.5 stereo out as well. I currently have the 2 input 1 aux yellow Hart mixer and it works well but only with 2 inputs (basically)! thanks for the review!

@@jthorpe4droid I've used some splitter cables for the sync and then feeding the main into the 2 channel Hart Mixer I have, but haven't tried sync with other than TE units so far, hear these will sync with the Volcas also using the CV.
Just to be clear, if you buy a dual 1/4” mono to 3.5mm stereo cable and plug one of the two 1/4” jacks into a mono synth and the 3.5mm stereo jack into the mixer will that sum the mono signal from the synth to stereo?
DisplayPort isn't 'old school', and the pictures on the manufacturer's site make it look like the loop cable is included with the unit. The loop connection appears to be the most innovative feature of this unit so it's too bad you didn't talk about it.
1 foot three-prong extension cords > power squids. You can use whatever surge suppression/UPS you want, without splitting an outlet, and they're probably cheeaper.
Sweet! Got a question, what is a good cheap option to record my hardware mixes? Do you recommend this mixer if I were to start a live hardware setup as a beginner? looking to get this as a mixer and probably a digitakt coupled with the new behringer td-3 when it comes out.
Yeah, fidelity isn't its strength for sure. However, the difference he got when turning the gain up, before it started to really crack up, there was a saturating sweetspot that to me sounds a lot like the saturators a lot of producers would use on every track anyway. Also the kick drum comparison to me sounded pretty much like the difference you'd get by throwing a saturation plug on your kick track in DAW. It's not as tweakable obviously, but none the less it didn't sound bad. Might be some people's cup of tea.
Hi, I am new to these things. I want to combine 2 inputs to 1 headphone PS4 (for game sound and audio for in-game audio chat) (Audio + mic) PC (audio chats on discord) (Audio + mic) so, is it possible for me to use only 1 mic but can talk with both people from discord (pc) and random people in-game (ps4)? is there any additional wire needed? since each input has 2 knobs, and the second knob has written "mic", so I assume just connect AUX cable to the mixer, both stereo audio and the mic is connected to the PC/PS4. correct me if I'm wrong. PLEASE AND THANK YOU :D
Just had my 5 year old screaming at the TV, "we have that, we have that one". We got ours last year for the pocket operators and use a few splitters, it's great for little on living floor jams, but you are right it does character the sounds a little, but that doesn't bother as we don't record.
@@RickyTinez We've had ours since sept last year, and it's held up pretty well with a 5 year old playing with it once or twice a week, Ch1 & Ch2 sliders are a little looser but they probably are the ones we use the most, and the gain is quite useful for old stuff like a EMT 10 module we have, then we run that into a old Fostex MR8 ( which we use to use before as it had 2 channels ) connected to speakers, but you do need a few 3.5mm to 1/4 cables. Just a shame it isn't battery, as we cant use it in the tent which is where we use the bass station the most with a battery pack and rechargeable speaker.
would love to see any overviews on consoles you recommend. looking for an affordable all-in-one solution like the portastudios but maybe in the $500 - 1k range. Currently looking at the Tascam Model 24 but wondering what my other options are for DAWless mixing and recording that could compete with my computer in a way that is reasonable.
ok, cool video and thanks because I was seeing that mixer on UA-cam. I'm going to ask for your opinion. I have 9 synths and need a new Interface. Im looking at the zoom rack mount mixer/interface or the Roland studio capture? id this a good way to go? or should I just get a reg. mixer and a 2 channel interface
INVALID COMMAND I just picked up focusrite scarlet 8i18 second generation for $325 brand new with the plan to add BEHRINGER 8 channel preamp that can couple with the Scarlett through optical to get me 16 channels, the preamp is around $250 new I think. Scarlett comes today and I’ll do the preamp in a month. But I love the idea of using the optical input to couple these into a 16 channel interface. I hear this can work with all sorts of interfaces. I considered the Behringer 8i18 with the matching preamp that came in super cheap for 16 channels of interface too. It’s another option.
Hey, I'm thinking about picking one of these guys up but it says not available in your affiliate link. Can you update with a working link so I can support your channel?
This is exactly what I'm hoping it does, so that I can buy a second and control more than 5 mini synths. I've just asked them this very question. Still no sign of this loop cable on their website though!
Sold - you should do an affiliate link for non-US countries too - I'm in Australia and had to go to the Australian amazon so I'm not sure if it is still your affiliate after redirect (sorry).
Good info, as always. Curious if you ever use guitar pedals and, if so, what do you do with line level vs instrument signal. I ended up using a reamp box into a stereo reverb and from there into a looper. (I do a slide guitar/harmonica thing with a rinky dink volca bass for bass lines, sort of a nod to Johnny “Guitar” Watson’s funk period).
I might have to snag one of these. My studio is setup in such a way that on one wall I have most of my instruments going in to a mixer and from the mixer into my interface, which is on the opposite wall on my desk. I have audio cables running from the mixer under the carpet and up to my desk. I also have my Hydrasynth on my desk and change out equipment pretty frequently which results in more cables running from my desk to the mixer. Been wanting a small mixer for the desk that I can sum everything on the desk before sending it to the main mixer. This might be it! Thanks Ricky!
Can you use headphones to Cue audio (pre-listening before sending to master)? Thanks for the tutorial my friend There is another one called maker hart 8 with more sliders :D
Thanks for the video! In a similar vein I've been looking for a cheap digital recorder. Some people use the Tascam DR-05. I'm wondering if I should spend a bit more and get a better product. Thanks again 🙏🏾
if you can stretch to a SoundDevices MixPre-3, it's well worth the extra cost! Alternatively you could go with a Zoom H4N or H5, depending on your budget.
Thanks for the review. Looks convenient. I've had my eyes on one of those for some time but never pulled the trigger. Can it handle Eurorack level (10V) ? That loop cable actually exists and comes with some units for +$10 extra. This actually seams to be an interesting feature. Considering the fact that only one power adapter is required to run the whole loop of mixers.
I just buy the loop 8 and that had mono input stereo input and also bluetooth and also one phantom the loop I understand can chain the mixer together I want also to buy this because I have a lot of synth stereo. The interesting things of the loop 8 is have the mute in each channel
It seems like it's meant more for connecting the headphone outputs of your phone, tablet, game console, media player, and etc all at once to a bluetooth speaker or something rather than professional audio applications.
hosea cables are so expensive in aussie land. but i have been looking for a small reliable mixer.. this looks pretty good. sounds like it’s losing some upper harmonics though.
Not sure where to ask this question so I’m posting here, hope you don’t mind. Obviously in the market for a mixer. And I’ve been looking at the Zoom Livetrak l-8 anyone know anything about this mixer? It’s hard to find any videos that I feel good about trusting. Seems like none of the synthtubers talk about these mixers so I’m curious if they aren’t as great as they seem. The one in this video might be my back up if I find out some flaws of the Zoom. Anything helps!
setphaser they ship quick to the US? I couldn’t even find a distributor that sold in $, only € (and how much is 71€ anyway? Probably more than $74, plus I gotta solder it? I don’t know what the components are, but I can’t imagine it’s $70+ of components!! Do they sell just a PCB? That would be dope for a desktop mixer, plus you could put full size 1/4” jacks!
Nice review, been looking at mixers for such a long time. Just mixing for podcasts / streaming and don't need all the adaptors. Will grab this one, via your links
Can anyone tell me, if I plugged a guitar and a mic into this mixer and ran it into my computer, would it allow me to broadcast both the guitar and the mic on Zoom meetings?
The Behringer UMC22 is good bang for your buck and will be more than enough for Zoom but you could even use it for recording your guitar and vocals. Another option for recording is the Focusrite Scarlett Solo with excellent sound for the price, though more expensive and in Zoom calls you won't hear the difference. For a slightly cheaper option, Behringer also has the UM2.

best explanation i can give you for the loop function
loop connects all the inputs to other mixers
imagine your on stage with 5 guys
drummer
bass player
lead guitar
singer
idk chello player
each player gets a loop mixer beside them daisy chained together via the loop port
mixer 1 is connected to mixer 2
mixer 2 goes into 3 3 goes into 4 4 goes into 5 5 goes into 1
now each person is connecting there instrument into a channel
drummer on input 1
bass on input 2
lead on input 3
singer on input 4
chello on input 5
the drummer can now configure all the sliders to give himself a personal mix of everyones instruments without affecting the sound of the others mixers
the same goes for every other performer the loop in gives them the unmodified inputs of all the other mixers and lets them controll there final output mix for monitoring
anouther setup you can do and the one i plan to use is as follows
i stream when i game so i have 3 outputs i care about
output 1 is my headset what i personally get to hear
output 2 is what the stream gets to hear
output 3 is what people on voice commes get to hear
i can have a loop mixer for each of theese outputs and use each mixer to get a taylored mix to each of the outputs so for example
mixer 1 gives my headset my music my discord voice chat the game chat and stream notifications
mixer 2 gives the stream game chat and music
mixer 3 gives discord just my mic and perhaps a soundboard
on a 3 bus mixer i could acomplish this but everything would have to be at the same level unless the mixer supports per bus volume controll
its basically in a nutshell a easy way to split a input to multiple mixers to generate individual mixes
the loop term comes from the fact you loop through all the mixers and back to the first
Ooooohhhhhh. Makes sense. Hmmm not bad, easy way to get some convenient monitoring
Ughh too much- make it simple
So loop send the pre-fade signal of a channel to all the looped mixer, allowing each mixer to set the level of the channel? What happens if two or more mixers have an input plugged into the same channel, or should that be avoided?

Also the kick drum comparison to me sounded pretty much like the difference you'd get by throwing a saturation plug on your kick track in DAW. It's not as tweakable obviously, but none the less it didn't sound bad. Might be some people's cup of tea.
@@andreyaek2266 i heard that sweat spot too... I definitely would use it...
@@bofudi am sorry if I offended your spelling sensibilities.. I didn't know i would be graded...
@@hydraulictelepath9677 Uh I have no idea you might as well say overdrivonzky far as I'm concerened, just thought it sounded funny
Hi, I am new to these things.
I want to combine 2 inputs to 1 headphone
PS4 (for game sound and audio for in-game audio chat) (Audio + mic)
PC (audio chats on discord) (Audio + mic)
so, is it possible for me to use only 1 mic but can talk with both people from discord (pc) and random people in-game (ps4)?
is there any additional wire needed?
since each input has 2 knobs, and the second knob has written "mic", so I assume just connect AUX cable to the mixer, both stereo audio and the mic is connected to the PC/PS4. correct me if I'm wrong.
Nice. Is it still working? I wonder how long mine will last.
@@RickyTinez Also the plastic has held up quite well, no cracks but it does scratch easy we found.
would love to see any overviews on consoles you recommend. looking for an affordable all-in-one solution like the portastudios but maybe in the $500 - 1k range.
Thanks to your review I just bought one whilst passing thru Taiwan. Looks great. Looking forward to using it when i get home... 😀
Nice! Hope it turns out to be what you hoped for
do you have any recommendations for mixers that are small and battery powered / portable?
excellent video as always, thank you!
I find the MouKey MAMX1 quite useful. Can be USB-powered with a powerbank.
Hey, I'm thinking about picking one of these guys up but it says not available in your affiliate link. Can you update with a working link so I can support your channel?
Maybe that cable is for syncing mixers if you want to say turn 2 of them into 1 10 channel mixer?
This is exactly what I'm hoping it does, so that I can buy a second and control more than 5 mini synths. I've just asked them this very question. Still no sign of this loop cable on their website though!
Thanks for this review. I’ve been on the fence about this for awhile now but...
I got a K-Mix 2nd hand $400. it's amazing. On board reverb, not great, but not bad. Powered by USB adapter.
+ Also acts as a soundcard for your computer, AND higain i/o you can plug turntables in, I think you can plug cv/gate i/o as well...
Sold - you should do an affiliate link for non-US countries too - I'm in Australia and had to go to the Australian amazon so I'm not sure if it is still your affiliate after redirect (sorry).
Is there a way to connect a microphone and dose it have microphone support for a microphone headset
How do I connect 4 speaks to this and play music from my phone?
I like your videos because no bull. Just the straight goods.
Thank you Perry! it's what i Strive for.
Aint nothing SUBTLE about that?!
So it basically sounds like a conversion from 24 bit to 16?
another hella underrated jam in the end! love it!
Is not that DisplayPort? Looks really similar
Can you use headphones to Cue audio (pre-listening before sending to master)? Thanks for the tutorial my friend
There is another one called maker hart 8 with more sliders :D
Thanks for the video! In a similar vein I've been looking for a cheap digital recorder. Some people use the Tascam DR-05. I'm wondering if I should spend a bit more and get a better product. Thanks again 🙏🏾
if you can stretch to a SoundDevices MixPre-3, it's well worth the extra cost! Alternatively you could go with a Zoom H4N or H5, depending on your budget.
DH Bennett or a TASCAM DR-100 mk II (or III). Nice quality, quiet preamps
Gotta add this to my wishlist for a possible
Compliment to my new AE modular system!
Can i connect my dynamic microphone directly.
And do i need amplifier for output
yes. you just can't use condenser mic with a mixer like that. dynamics go always.
That is very cool. If I didn't need some EQ on some of my gear at live shows I would switch entirely to these nifty things.
Has a really nice saturation character
I just buy the loop 8 and that had mono input stereo input and also bluetooth and also one phantom the loop I understand can chain the mixer together I want also to buy this because I have a lot of synth stereo. The interesting things of the loop 8 is have the mute in each channel
I love your beats man, always s good groove in the vid that I end up rewinding like 10 times haha
It seems like it's meant more for connecting the headphone outputs of your phone, tablet, game console, media player, and etc all at once to a bluetooth speaker or something rather than professional audio applications.
Video about cheap synth pls
Nobody is able to sell me an amazon mixer… but you, Ricky😆👍🏼
hosea cables are so expensive in aussie land. but i have been looking for a small reliable mixer.. this looks pretty good. sounds like it’s losing some upper harmonics though.
Does the Dude mixer colors the sounds as well?
Yeah it does. And actually does it really nicely, this mixer sounds a little more busted up when it starts driving really hard
Ive never heard channels been called.. independent volumed outputs.
CAN I PUT 4 MICROPHONES AT THE SAME TIME?
Do I have to use it for music or can I use it like a aduio mixer with a ps4 aduio and Xbox audio and phone aduio and PC aduio all into headphones
I don't see why not
@@RickyTinez now I'm not sure if you know a way but is there a way to connect it to the ps4 so I don't have to connect it to the controller
not sure on that one :(
@@RickyTinez dose a mic go through it like if you get a splitter and plug the splitter into the headphones then plug the microphone in and headset
Did you ever try the Nady 5 ch mixer it’s like $30
I had one but in my case it was a bit noisy and somewhat bulky. But it served me well for a good amount of time
Not sure where to ask this question so I’m posting here, hope you don’t mind.
Hi, do you know what is better: Loop Mixer or Just mixer 5 ?( I mean which has less background noise) Thanks a lot
Is there a mixer like that but with EQ?
Damn, I was looking at that on Amazon since they don't sell the Dude, but I wanted fx sends. Maybe this could be useful enough on it's own tho?
Jamie the dude is on sale direct from BASTL and they sent it to me super quick.
setphaser they ship quick to the US? I couldn’t even find a distributor that sold in $, only € (and how much is 71€ anyway? Probably more than $74, plus I gotta solder it? I don’t know what the components are, but I can’t imagine it’s $70+ of components!! Do they sell just a PCB? That would be dope for a desktop mixer, plus you could put full size 1/4” jacks!
Nice review, been looking at mixers for such a long time. Just mixing for podcasts / streaming and don't need all the adaptors. Will grab this one, via your links
used one of these for my Korg Volca's, worked fine, but it does have some background noise, but thats to be expected at this price range.
Can anyone tell me, if I plugged a guitar and a mic into this mixer and ran it into my computer, would it allow me to broadcast both the guitar and the mic on Zoom meetings?
You're probably better off using an audio interface for that purpose, that is what they're made for.
@@Tony2dH do you have an audio interface to suggest for this purpose?
The Behringer UMC22 is good bang for your buck and will be more than enough for Zoom but you could even use it for recording your guitar and vocals. Another option for recording is the Focusrite Scarlett Solo with excellent sound for the price, though more expensive and in Zoom calls you won't hear the difference. For a slightly cheaper option, Behringer also has the UM2.
@Ezmyrelda Andrade it'll be more than enough to make Zoom calls! If they wanted to make music recordings they can for the Scarlett.
2:37 Explanation for a lot of things
Ricky, have you tried the Behringer 1002B mixer . . . 10 channels, eq, effects sends, mic inputs . . . AND it's battery powered !
Cool will have to look at that as I thought it ran off mains, not battery. But I'm in the mood for a battery one.
What about the 1002B? without the qx
@@jthorpe4droid The Behringer 1002B, uses 3 X 9 volt batteries or power supply
I just picked one of these up and was going to ask the same thing!
Actually do you have one of those. It’s pretty big though! But it does serve its purpose really well. I love how long the faders are on that one.
You sold me this mixer, but also…GREAT jam!
