Making a soft plastic fishing lure, The whip tail grub and injection mould

  • I think I am going round in circles but there is never anything wrong with making whip tail or curly tail grubs, let us be honest anything with teeth or a set of gums and fins is either going to want to bite them or give them a nasty suck. Fishing lure fashions come and go but these simple baits have stood the test of time so it was great to try out some of my new mould making techniques and make a step up from the humble worm.
    Hand pouring whip tail grubs is always a bit of a compromise as I can never get the tail to standard thickness but with an injection mould this is no problem. Also that combination of polyurethane resin and aluminium means the lures cool quickly so the mould can be set up again for the next round.
    Materials
    Polymer clay; there are two main brands of this Fimo and sculpey both easy to get hold of from art shops or online.
    the resin I used was Easyflo 60 from ebay it can be bought small amounts normally
    aluminium powder was again bought from eBay but is standard filler for lots of resins
    Some companies like Makelure.com produce ready mixed resins with Aluminium powder, like VAC 50
    Soft plastic liquid can be bought from a number suppliers

    have you tried using that polymorph plastic to make original?

    • @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
      @PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman  6 років тому +1

      yes it works the trouble is the resin give off heat when curing and remelts the polymorph, but it would work with plaster of paris

    • @cr0cket01
      @cr0cket01 6 років тому

      i didnt know it heats up on cure mainly i just poor and stick it in shed until next day, i got tentacle things from link you gave me. umm i got some plaster paris as arthritis in hands and making that Plasticine stuff soft hurts like hell it was why hoping polymorth would work. thanks for info
