  • It's here, the long awaited Long Term Review of the HW110. Its not to our usual level of glossy, but the warts 'n' all discussion and harsh testing around this competitive package certainly is.
    There's 2 parts to this review making it an all time epic fot the SOC, plus a bonus spin off, as the lads get boisterous on the way home.
    In this episode, Glen quizzes Tom on the key aspects of the package. and parts that come supplied with it, as well as the pros and cons, and the work arounds Tom has grown into, to get the best out of this package.
    In the next episode, Glen works in collaboration with Toms wife to steel it and take it on the HFT range while Tom is racing at the Red Bull Soap Box Derby.

    All teething issues have now been addressed and can confirm they are unreal little rifles i have the stk and still 75shots in .177 its as compact as a ultra and a world away better, had around 4000 rounds through it and hasnt skipped a beat very consistent

    Guys, great, honest review here. I have this rifle in.22 and it really accurate and consistent, can't fault it. Not had any of the problems you mentioned . Keep on trucking guys.

    Just got my 110 T in 177, just wow it’s so accurate, 10/10 would buy again.
    Nice done Weihrauch, my is a 05/21 production and no Problems so far

    Glen, another good and honest review. As you state in the video, mine was under powered out of the box, but a quick trip back to Hull Cartridge under warranty and now , like Toms, consistant at 11.6ft lbs and no other problems. Smooth, sweet and deadly accurate, just hope Tom does it justice against your S410!

    I´m a big fan of Weihrauch and I have 77k in .177 . This rifle I zeroed at 40 meters ( 10 m my 2. zero ) from 10 to 25 is just 1,5 mil hold under !!!! Further than 40 m to 60 a 1/2 mildot holdover!! Dead accurate

    thanks for the honest review guys I have been looking at a HW110k .22 and have spoken to many R.F.D who agree there were problems with 17/18 models that but not so many lately, the Air Arms s510 superlight carbine is the only real competitor, but much that more expensive and looking on air gun forums they are not worry free ether, plus there customer service is not a patch on Weihrauch or Hull Cartridge. In the end I wanted a compact carbine and not a bullpup for under £750 so after watching your review I payed a little more than online prices and bought from My local R.F.D who gladly took my rangemaster in trade for 7Lt air tank and a 750cc portable one also gave me an extended warranty and steered me away from B.S.A and Walther offerings

    Good video guys ..i bought a 110 177 for a second gun to go with my ultra se but had to send it back as was leaking air but they sorted that out. But when it comes to picking a gun on the morning between my 110 or my ultra its got to be the 110 👍

    What did you end up doing with the moderator? Did they swap it for you?
    I actually bought a 110k after this very in depth review and so far I’m really happy with it. As you said it takes getting used to cocking it with that stiff to push back in arm, but that’s all I’ve found so far. Mine is 11.4ft lbs with jsb 15.9.
    My only thing with it is, I do like a nice wood stock and I’ve no idea how long the black coating will last. Maybe you will see someone strip and re finish in the near future 👍👍

      Well that year passed quickly...and pleased to say that Tom has bashed many a bunny on his mams farm up on the borders with it without a hitch. So 6 months of grief...then nothing for a year and going well. I have spoken with some reliable and honest gun shops over the last month or so, and they say the niggles have been worked out and they have very little hassle with them. Out of the 3 that i have been around over the last 18 months to 2 years, only two are still in collections with the 3rd been sold for a second hand AA S400. Now there is one sticking point with this rifle...the price, and at around £725...Its pretty much in HW100 class, and as i said...and stick by...its no HW100. Still a good package but not the bargain it was.

      need more sleep
      Consider the HW100 ... (.20) ..its like taking a gorgeous bird out on a date , EVERY time you get it out of the bag ... the quality , the feel , and accuracy by the shed load ... Caress it , lust over it , love it , you will not regret buying it .. I also own a BSA Goldstar SE . .. 2 x R10's ( .22 & .177 ) FX Typhoon .22 .... So saying it's me favorite says a lot ...

    Now now lads , play nicley ... The shoot off ?? ..looking forward too it .. I'd like too see the Brit win , but the hw110 is a new breed , the Jerry's would have sussed out the competition ages before they released the 110 ... So ... I'm sticking with the weirauch .. I think that will! Have the edge ... I need too be proved wrong ... I have 4 BSA's and 1 weihrauch ... The German just seems too have that " quality " about it .. the " feel " .. you could almost say " sexy " ... But I'm talking hw100 ... No doubt the 110 is in the same vein ( but uglier ) bit like comparing Katie Perry with Katie Price ... Both would perform excellently .. but only one looks as rough as a bears arse .. all plastic and stuff ... can't wait for the shoot off ... Be good boys play nicley .. excellent vid

    Seriously debating this rifle as my first pcp but I'm hearing 50/50 good/bad about it all the time. Now not sure if it this or go for a bullpup (Galahad, FX wildcat or a brocock bantam)?

      There's more to be said from Glen in the next episode, Tom doesn't even know about it yet!!! But...the HW110...Its a good package as we said...but only if it works out the box. I'd get them to chrono it before leaving the shop. As for the mod threads, loosen the mod and if it wobbles around by a few mm then hand that rifle back and get them to bring forward another.

    ive recently bought the hw110 in laminate. was a great gun out of the box but like you guys said power dropped significantly after about 2 months of owning it. not interested in sending it back as ive read some reviews on hc and was not impressed. decided to take it on myself to investigate. i found that the hammer spring adjuster comes loose. unfortunately this cannot be adjusted due to the anti tamper 4mm rod the put into the hammer assembly. however another youtuber has made a video on how to remove it. be warned though only do this if you have access to a chronograph. the anti tamper was removed and power adjusted accordingly. since then its been on point and like a lsaer down range.

      On the gunsmithing arm of the business I have had a few through for the stage one tune which does away with the AT. Afterwards all the customers got +/-2fps guns back. I actually messed up a little in the videos saying they are not the same gun as the 100. After started gunsmithing it was long before I found they are very similar. I personally prefer the 110 over the 100 for field work and HFT. But in terms of servicing I prefer the 100.

    Great video guys
    I hired a 110 at the shooting range a couple of times the first time it was ridiculously accurate on the second session five days later it had the spread of a shotgun and underpowered
    Will the real 110 please stand up

  • @hunter100t
    @hunter100t 7 років тому

    Well I must admit I'm surprised at HW's quality control with the mod threads, its almost like someone done a bad batch and somehow got it past inspection. unless the mods are meant to be on another of their models ? bang on with if it sits right and shoots straight is good enough, this is what I always advise people to do when choosing an airgun, and the banter in the car was class ! that's what keeps it real and will be great to see this challenge lol hmm wonder how that's going to turn out, I think be wary of Tom, seems to have found the sweet spot pellet. great upload guys and never stop ! atb phil.

    • @ShootingOutdoorsChannel
      @ShootingOutdoorsChannel  7 років тому

      I was shocked at the mod threads Phil...the Industry Spec for flats on 1/2" - 20 converts to something like 0.12mm, on the trace M/C they were 0.31mm. I'm lucky to have access, and the character to get people to let me put things through on the QT, on state of the art equipment. But even with the thread cover from the Rotex i could feel it rocking around on the flats. I do wonder if the mod threads were the what has been behind the big recall of the 110's.

    • @hunter100t
      @hunter100t 7 років тому

      Sounds like a common issue from what you were saying so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the reason for the recall, we used to call them Friday afternoon jobs before everything went 24/7. maybe the low power but more likely it was the thread issue. nice to have access to that kind of equipment, keep at em !

    Thanks for a cracking review. I'm relativley new to air guns and have just purchased the HW110 in .22. I have so far recorded an 10.92 fpe using JSB Exact. I am aware that this is advertised as a 11+ fpe rifle. so I'm wondering if mine is one that is under powered. what would be your thougts before I send it back. all the best Si

    • @ShootingOutdoorsChannel
      @ShootingOutdoorsChannel  4 роки тому +1

      Believe it or not I'm scripting a video currently on ftlb Vs Speed and which to use to set the gun too. To simplify things though using a 16gn pellet in the example there's only 23fps difference between 11 & 12 ftlb. So if your set at 11.5ftlb say at 611.5fps (as an example) and you have +/-11.5fps which is a good tolerance to have you can fluctuate between 11 and 12 ftlb. But you won't see this as a problem on paper as the FPS spread is negligible. Wind will be a bigger factor.

    • @Ascent41
      @Ascent41 4 роки тому

      @@ShootingOutdoorsChannel that's great, looking forward to watching. I was getting 558fps with the 10.92fpe so I'm guessing this is low. I will try some h&n pellets and see what they come out as compared to the JSB. Atb Si

    • @ShootingOutdoorsChannel
      @ShootingOutdoorsChannel  5 років тому

      Solware and HC didn't tell us. We suspect it was something to do with its 'air regulating system' (hammer spring or perhaps a restriction screw around the transfer port etc) but we haven't pulled it apart to see how its made yet as its worked fine since. I doubt that any actual machining was done to the ports or valve stem. They sell these world wide and have to cater for anywhere between 3fpe to 16fpe. So there's usually a simple part in there that can vary power.

    Rubbish review. This rifle is really accurate I've had mine for a year. 7 pellets in the same hole at 50 metres . If you mistreat any rifle as you have obviously done with this one then what do you expect ! The problem is the owner NOT the rifle. Just look at the damage on the stock !

    • @tomhislop1036
      @tomhislop1036 5 років тому +3

      Hi Phillip, Sorry you're not pleased with the review, yes it seems i was displeased at the start of the video but i was, i had to send the rifle back twice before they replaced it, but since I've had the latest one it hasn't given me one bit of grief, it has worn in nicely and I've got a rifle I'm really happy with. If you watch the whole review you'll head about the journey as it is the long term review.
      And as for the marks on the stock, what can i say, i use rifles as they are meant to be used, outdoors, in the field, resting on rocks and logs. The soft rubber coat is very susceptible to scratches.

    the HW110 low power fault is still a big issue in 2021

    • @ShootingOutdoorsChannel
      @ShootingOutdoorsChannel  3 роки тому

      I know...Tom sold his on in the end. I bought one in .22 October last year new and it came in at 9.5 ftlb out the box. Which in the eyes of HC, the RFD (not their fault but still point of sale) the UK Law is acceptable. Its been given the full SOC treatment now and works very well at 11.75ftlb +/- 0.2. But how do you argue its underpowered? Anywhere under 12ftlb is the target. But for me under 10 is Intervention territory.

  • @wiltonlewis5369
    @wiltonlewis5369 7 років тому +1

    I really enjoy your videos, but I sometimes think you ignore the evidence from your own tests. For example, the 177 v 22 test, where it was clear that the target plate got a heck of a bigger thump with the 22, yet somehow the 177 had more impact. With this video, you have established that the HW as purchased was inaccurate and underpowered. And not just your gun, but one of your mates as well and it seems, could be more widespread. Yet it is a great gun. If so, why has it only been out in the field 10 times? It seems that the HW reputation for quality and reliability is not what it once was. I have shot my mate's 110 and that gun was very accurate and I enjoyed it. But funnily enough, we both remarked that it seemed a bit underpowered compared to my Compatto. Don't get me wrong, my compatto has had problems. Yes it is accurate and great to handle, but is it reliable and would I buy one again? Probably not. Your video has demonstrated clearly to me, if not to you, that I should stay clear of the 110 as well. Keep the videos coming, they are very informative and thought provoking.

    • @tomhislop1036
      @tomhislop1036 7 років тому +1

      Hi mate, some good points there.
      The reason i didn't get the gun out in the field much was just due to my personal commitments, birth of my daughter etc. only found the issue months and months after first purchasing the rifle.
      And yeah quality, it seems quality inspections of the 110 as it leaves the factory may have dropped in standard as there has been wide spread issue with power and accuracy due to the thread issue, however, i strongly believe that now these problems have been resolved (and they were resolved quickly and with no questions asked) the rifle will serve me well, but only time will tell. If your mates gun feels under powered get it through a chrono and see what it's doing. We were getting about 9.5ftlb but upon repair its a solid 11.5.
      Thanks,
      Tom

      Toms went back to Hull Cartridge again after this video was done...they swapped out the action on his rifle and its been spot on since. However, we mention Tony's rifle in this video that was spot on out the box...that one has gone down now and lost all power. He's working to get it fixed with Hull Cartridge i believe.
