      @@VizehThe only thing that needs scrapping is PGMOL and English monopoly on refereeing in the premier league. They are simply not good enough. Just bring in international referees. The standard of refereeing will improve as they won't be best friends with everyone else in the premier league. English media won't be scared to call out their mistakes because they won't be English, and the problem of being a fan of a certain club won't be an issue anymore. If they don't want them running around on the pitch just make them VARs. Same things apply and they won't do everything to protect the ref on the pitch and explain his mistakes.

      I watch a lot of Serie A as well as the PL and hate to say it but Italian officiating is just as bad, if not worse. It just no longer gets any mention since Napoli/Inter have been winning the league and the "referees protecting Juventus" narrative has lost steam, but the reality on the ground is still horrible.
      I reckon the game just goes too fast nowadays for most human referees, particularly seeing how those in the Premier League are often... chubby and not fit to follow the pace of the game. There will need to be AI officiating at some point.

As for the calls, 1st one is refs call, 2nd isnt, 3rd is.
    As for the fa cup if the games had been swapped then Wan Bissaka wouldn’t have been called a pen, but Grealish would have. I heard somewhere that the Chelsea pen wasn’t called cause ref didnt see it, so what about the linos? Or var? I just can’t believe it didn’t get referred. Handball isn't subjective as it isn't down to opinion. It's either handball or it isn't, no room for interpretation.
    The Laws of the Game even featured a diagram showing which parts of the arm are considered for handball and it's basically anything that isn't the shoulder and armpit. In previous years the cut-off was the elbow, and in others it depended on where the arm was in relation to the body.
    This season, Berge's handball against Forest was handball, but a few years ago it wouldn't have been.

    Yeah corruption towards everyone just can't be right. I think what's most frustrating for Forrest about this situation is that they warned the premier league that the VAR is a Luton fan, and then hours later an absolute disgrace occurs on the pitch.. The premier league needs to stop defending incompetence and say it for what it is, otherwise when teams get done over they are going to feel like the league is out to get them.

  • @ste9890
    @ste9890 Місяць тому

    The crux of the issue is the high bar that exists for VAR to intervene. Many of the laws of the game are subjective, meaning one ref might see an incident as a penalty and another thinks otherwise. In either case, the VAR won't intervene because they want to avoid "re-reffing" the game and reduce the impact VAR has, limiting it to larger errors. This, by the way, is a result of what the fans and media have asked for. But the result is that very similar incidents have different consequences, which people are struggling to accept.
    In theory this strategy makes sense - leave it all up to the man in the middle on the day, barring major errors. But the line that constitutes a major error is too blurred for this to work in practice, and only results in apoplectic fans who are essentially angry about whether VAR did or did not intervene. The fact is VAR was deemed correct to not intervene on the first 2 Forest penalty decisions, but thousands of Forest fans will think otherwise. The independent panel said VAR should have intervened for the 3rd incident, but on the day the VAR team felt the bar wasn't met. This is a microcosm of how the system works, and is destined to fail.
    The existence of VAR means fans are not willing to accept that the referee on the day makes all the decisions, with outside intervention only for major errors. The mere existence of VAR means fans are demanding consistency and perfection, which is not possible. There either needs to be a better universal understanding (and acceptance) of when VAR is supposed to intervene (which is rarely), or bin it altogether.

  • @Alphoric

    What amazes me is that part of the problem with the situation is that the PL put themselves in a precarious position by putting a Luton fan on VAR last weekend. You'd assume they would then try to be a bit more careful with refereeing selection. They then out a Liverpool fan on VAR fir the North London Derby this weekend.
    Considering Michael Oliver, a Newcastle fan, said that he shouldn't be refereeing Newcastle's rivals in the run in, it's a bit weird.

O and the forest complaint was before the game that the VAR guy was linked to Luton. Forest brought it up days before the game.

    One thing that is worth remembering for prem clubs is the standard of officiating without var, all well and good saying get rid of var, but the level of championship officiating is a joke. If you want any help with this, I'm a wba fan, we had a penalty vs rotherham which was clearly outside the box, and not handball, kipre handball off the line vs qpr not given and a pen against us vs Leicester qhich was most likely outside of the box, all in the space of a month
    Also, the stoke vs Swansea game a few weeks back, and who can forget Anthony Taylor's penalty decision in the cov vs Preston game, after it was decided he wasn't good enough for the prem for 1 week, but good enough for the championship
    We need ab overhaul of officiating, and that won't happen, my advice is go to the footy with your mates on a saturday, enjoy football (preferably without var) for what it is, and don't get wrapped up in twitter or replays when you get back, as it's so frustrating, and drags you down for longer periods of time
