the first time i saw jack wilkins was in 1975. he was playing with buddy rich, in a quartet setting. He played with such heart and virtuosity - with a complete smile on his face - that i could not help but listen with complete amazement. regarding bruno's playing, WTF is that harmonic that he did , that was amazing!!
I love Jimmy Bruno. His approach makes sense to me. He has helped me, through his dvd's and website, loads with my playing. Seem like a a good guy too.
I had this clip awhile ago and if was taken off. I'm glad I found it again. If you are a Guitar player and know about Jack and Jimmy and found this clip how can 3 people dislike it?
Jack is killer, i had the pleasure and honour (and he had the tolerance) of jamming with him duo style when he was in NZ a while back. Wicked time, chops, character, swing, AND humility. Jimmy's a great guitarist but i'm yet to be bitten into by his playing.
I really just enjoy this song as it is played here. I think it is hard to judge each guitarist as better than the other. They are obviosly both well rehearsed. I love both of there sounds. Actually it took me about three listens to actually distinguish the two apart.
I love both of these great musicians Jimmy is awesome but he plays safe in his close fingering & runs as amazing as they are, where as Jack walks the edge & you can feel the NYC friction & his musicality, dexterity, fluidity stand him apart from many guitarist, by the DVD in entire gig is a gas.
+brian thomas Yep when I toured with him he drove me crazy with his foot, But Jack walks the edge much more than Jimmy does who plays great guitar but safe, I like the danger Jack creates in the groove.
@deepfriedpankakes Totally agree, This is Mr. Wilkins tune so it's not suprising that his soloing is more into changes and harmonic structure of the tune. Jimmy is playing from paper...
No, you are not. - And about the more or less interest: You should not forget that this one is a piece of Wilkins... - It is not a question which one is better - its a question about the approach. They are both brilliant!
your subjective opinion given such finality annoys me...i feel otherwise and am just as right, and just as wrong as you are...i hope you understand that..
That's outstanding. I love jazz...I play guitar. Why can't I marry the two?
Still miss you brother.

+Will McC He even taps his feet with an enthusiastic intensity. Both are GREAT, but I have to agree, and maybe say; Jack plays into deeper shades.
