    Cal,
Check out the Coldwater low profile line counter. Instead of a lever line release, it has a thumbar line release. You'll like it much better than the Coldwater model you've reviewing here.

I’ve been fishing the Okuma MA-15DXT-T Magda Pro linecounter reels this season, and so far I’m really liking them. They are a bit more compact than the Coldwaters (I don’t have your Bigfoot hands:) but still hold up to 290 yds of 12 lb mono. I’ve been using 15 lb braid. I’ve given them a pretty good workout and so far there are no issues. I have a couple of the Coldwater linecounters, too, but I prefer the Magdas.

You mentioned it being heavier that you can feel in your hand. Was that before you put 8 colors of lead core? I think you have three on you Abu so that wouldn't be an accurate comparison. And "no" I don't want you to get out the scales. Ha! But I do want to know if you thought this with two empty reels compared.

Daiwa Lexa 300 Line Counter........now my favorite. Balance/drag, size, for trolling Northern California for big trout. Gave up on Abu, Okuma too big; drag not precise enough. IMHO of course.

How is the Okuma holding up?

We have 2 that still get daily use on the boat. They have held up well.

Quick question that first popped up to me- if the new Lead Core is 30% thinner, assuming that means each color will dive deeper. I actually thought that's where this video was going. Would love to know, I like leadcore, but hate the drag that it creates pulling in a fish. I'm a downrigger guy, but sometimes Lead Core seems to be better, can't see putting out half a mile of line to get deep

Well for me...I've been running hybrid rigs with 3 colors of lead backed up with braid...This stuff is thinner so you can get more line on the reel...
Why use leadcore? I use a downrigger, leadcore, divers and straight mono for top lining...Depending on what you are fishing from, leadcore is very effective....Kayakers and other small craft folks can do very well with lead...Beyond that, I've seen times when divers and leadcore will outfish the downrigger..Not sure why?...

@@FHSTackle oh I agree with you, I grabbed a couple of your setups earlier in the spring. I'm just wondering (and assuming, actually)that the thinner Lead Core will get deeper then the other stuff. If it's thinner, then there should be less drag, which should mean each color should drop deeper( thinner diameter, cut screw the water more efficiently) have you tried to figure out if it has?

I have 6 of them. I really like them even tho they only last me around 6-9 months (I fish a lot). The line counters quit working for me and the gear control poops out on some. I buy them at scheels in Reno and they will replace them. @mikeolney #olneyadventures

Fish Hunt Shoot Productions I’m aware, I’ve been a long time (2+ yrs) subscriber and watch most of your near daily videos with interest. I’ve used Okuma cold waters for years, so I was interested in the video based on the title. You did not actually review the reel, however, just told us you loaded it with monofilament backing, micro lead core, then fluorocarbon (which is very basic NOT of high interest or a “review”).

I'm shocked by the supply issues confronting the fishing world right now....We are on the cusp of some major shortages...

Fish Hunt Shoot Productions I fish almost exclusively with line counter reels and own/use multiple brands (Okuma, Magda, Daiwa, Cabelas, and Shakespeare). Each brand has a few quirks and issues, but I really like my 3 different Okumas for long term reliability and quality. Okuma now offers a “low profile” line counter reel; I have 2 of them and they are my new favorites. I live in NE Utah near Flaming Gorge Reservoir, where I go after Kokanee, rainbow, brown, cutthroat, and lake trout using a wide variety of fishing gear throughout the year.

My Coldwater is great better than any Abu Garcia I ever had

    • @FHSTackle
      @FHSTackle  2 роки тому

The Coldwater is a fine reel...I prefer the Abu 5500 Lc and if the Lexa came in a size between the huge 300 and the tiny 100 that would be my top choice. I favor the Abu 5500 lc over the Coldwater for two reasons. 1. Retrieve speed: The Abu is faster. 2. Sensitivity of drag setting. To me the Okoma click system doesn't allow for fine tuning. Whatever the difference is between clicks is what it is. The Abu's drag doesn't utilize a click system therefore it's a lot easier to dial it in...
Those are my thoughts. Your mileage varies and that's awesome...
      Thanks for watching....
