Arena Abridged - The Elder Scrolls Lore

- We're going back in time to The Elder Scrolls: Arena to examine its main story. It's true that some of the most interesting tales in The Elder Scrolls are from the in-game books, but what about the games themselves? Who among you can honestly say that you've played them all in their entirety? That is why this video was made. I hope you enjoy.
A very big thank you to all of the artists who graciously allowed me to use their work. This video would not be the same without them.

Oh God, he must be playing Daggerfall. Even 10 months isn't long enough to beat that game.
I beat the game in about 2 weeks
Not everything just the main story
i could beat arena but not daggerfall cuz of the huge easy to get lost in dungeons and the quests with a time limit
@@timecoldslow2950 yeah lmao I loved arena but with daggerfall I ended up using a levitate glitch to noclip through walls and find whatever boss I was looking for
@timecoldslow2950 Honestly, I feel like Bethesda realized that a time limit on the main quest was a bad idea, because it's, thankfully, the only Elder Scrolls in which a timed main questline is a thing.
Can you do The lusty argonian maid lore next
yo you down bad asf but like lmk when he makes it, I need it for a school project
This is why I believe Skyrim is for the nords..

Wow to be honest, that's a pretty good story didn't expect that from a game that came out in 1994
he makes It sound better, trust me
I mean this is 1994, when PC games themselves, let alone RPGs where a more niche thing for the true nerds, so naturally you could excpect that some thought would be put into the story.
You must not play very many games if you think that's impressive. FFVI came out in 1994 and is still one of the greatest stories ever told.
@@paistinlasta1805 And now they're generic, dumbed down garbage created for a general audience with very little story because the general public is too confused by literally everything.
@@TheWeegeeToast He probably hasn't even played a video game.
Biography of Barenziah, v3. I was just reading books in Skryrim and found more information about the lore of this story. It explains how the key and portal came to be in the first part of the game. You can find it in Halted Stream camp near Whiterun.
Excited to see another elder scrolls upload 🙏🙏👍
Bring us another one soon.

Literally found these Elder Scrolls Lore videos you've been posting this morning and have systematically watched them all while enjoying my coffee and having some snacks, please keep up with these as I'm utterly engrossed!
Hope this will turn into an 8 part series. :)

9:51 no that’s wrong, before the final blow was struck, he tore open a portal in time, and flung him into the future. Were his evil is law.
Eternal Champion Jack
Eternal Champion Jack
tomer valda what?
Jack Donovan Samurai Jack humor
And in the future he learn to harness the power of Oblivion's destructive magic in the palm of his hands. Riding into Jagar's castle of darkness and slaying wave upon wave of demonic minions, he finally arrived at the throne room where an epic battle ensued. After the Canage, the Champion stood victorious over Jagar's decimated but still living body. He demanded he be sent back in the past. Knowing the end was near, Jagar granted him his wish and opened a portal to which again flung the champion to the past. And as Jagar lay there dying along on the floor, he grinned and laughed for he knew his final act was another deception. The champion told him to open a portal to the past, but did not specify what point in the past.
As our champion awoke, he found himself in a strange time ruled by a class of elf not totally unlike Jagar, but completely different from the others he has ever seen. Overtime he saw how these elves treated his fellowmen (who were also different in appearance to what he had remembered) and grew to hate them. He finally snapped. Using the destructive forces of oblivion which he could still harness, he dawned his enchanted armor and swore to destroy them. Armies fell before him as he challenged Warlords, and military leaders to duels to the death.
And so began the legend of Pelinal Whitestrake.
Please come back I really love your video format

I’ve no idea how anyone could finish ESO. I know we’re talking main quests but there’s so much content it’s almost overwhelming.
saying a quarter century instead of 25 years makes it seem so much older and I love that
Bethesda should remaster this game in new game engines.. It will be good.
I think they will when they cover all the providences fully!
*OOF* sorry to have to be the one to inform you but Bethesda passed away a while back, fell ill when fallout 76 released and with the updates that came they lost the fight... the funeral is next time an update drops they will not have enough funds and resources to make anything after that
@@TH-xo4zx That's how you get no more Elder Scrolls by being toxic fans. Yeah they're messing up a bit but chin up big guy they're just games. Capitalism lol.
@@zacharyjohnson7109 i was actually joking so r/woosh on you lol but honestly even if they dont make anymore elder scrolls it would still me better then them releasing a rushed unfinished and broken elder scrolls resembling fallout 76, that's my opinion at least.. I don't think its toxic to shame developers for exploiting hardcore fans and ignoring criticism, in fact if anything will make bethesda make good games again it scrutiny from gamers thats why gamers need to rise up and make bethesda get their greedy shit togerther.
They are busy trying to resell skyrim again
That's pretty cool that fang lair appears in eso too
Large green Hulk Wee wee and eso happens before Arena too lol
the elderkingstation no it’s doesn’t
@@maul5578 ehm, it does. Arena happens in the 3 era, and eso in the 2.
I’ve just sat and binge watched your entire TES series. I’m a self confessed lore addict and I learnt so much. I can’t wait for more, keep up the good work 😍
Hey, PLS, make more videos. You are fantastic. Congratulations!
So that's how everyone instantly knew that Uriel died in Oblivion
You said the eternal champion was a nobody in the imperial prison for an unexplained reason, but I remember something about the hero being a former member of the imperial council, banished for treachery of the emperor. If I remember correctly, it mentioned something about them finding out about jagar tharns plan, but no one believed him and thought it was their own sinister plot, hence the banishment
Hey there's a book in Morrowind that tells this story, it's titled the Biography of Queen Barenziah.
4:23 when you told the teacher you would go to the toilet but actually you just leave the school in secret:
Sir, these are great. Please continue this series
Yes yes yes finaly
Can't wait for the daggerfall video we got daggerfall unity now so it should be way funner to play than it used to be
These videos are amazing. Hope to see you upload soon! Take care
Also, what happened to the guards who remained behind? I hope they pop up later. Great presentation, again!
He was eaten; time may have been slowed but not by that much
Yes finally!!! Post these more often please!!!
Please continue your work, specially with the lore centered videos please! I'm looking forward to your next video

3 months? glad to have u back.
Your videos are pure class, man. How you started your video was awesome, I wouldn't have even thought of looking at played vs finished mainline quests but it makes so much sense.
Holy shit! You're back!
Awesome video I always wondered what happened it elder scrolls 1
Pls make another
Love your stuff, I know it must be time consuming but it would be awesome if you made more elder scrolls lore videos.
This was so badass!!! I cannot wait until your next video!
Please do more of these. I just spent the last hour watching them. I was also introduced to tes in morrowind. I didn't attempt to play arena until last year, and I just couldn't do it.
This is great man. I don't think I'll go back to play the DOS games, but I went back to play Oblivion after playing Skyrim and currently playing ESO, and I love every minute of Oblivion. Eventually I'll go back to play Morrowind.
4:22 if it weren't for you meddling kids :P great series! Thanks for going deeper in TES lore with us!
The key that was luckily in the reach of the champion was put there by a guard bribed by Barenziah, Queen of Morrowind.
Best elder scrolls videos on YT
Excellent series... I hope you upload more soon.
I also began on Morrowind. It was my fav TES game, still is. After it is daggerfall, then Arena & Skyrim. I loved how rich the lore was in Morrowind. Every book was readable unlike following games. You'd go to Vivec city, visit the library, read about his life & find out he was a hermaphrodite! Then you'd read up on the past, how the Dunmer were cursed.
There was this Khajit in Caldera, my city of choice where I stored my stuff, she would mention she was indeed a thief, but justified it like a Khajit totally would. Paraphrasing "If people really value their belongings, get a better lock, or do they not care if they're stolen?" Haha.
I nodded the game after years of playing. I started off fixing some seemingly broken things like magicka not regenerating like in later games, meaning mage only class is nearly impossible unless you carry potions and somehow can afford them. I also fixed it so Khajit & Argonians could wear helmets & boots since their anatomy didn't allow it in game. Later after experience nodding more, I took in the lore, made full quests with new dungeons, good stories, all lore friendly.
At 1 point there was a project going on where the best modders were working together to create all of Gabriel as we had no assurance that it would be done officially like ESO mostly did.
Try Arena, Daggerfall, & Morrowind out. The 1st 2 are DOS games so you'll need to do all the DOS junk from the past. There are guides, it's not a big deal. Though I must warn you, fast travel and quest arrows, hah, no way. Not until Oblivion other than a few services, spells (mark, recall) & intervention magic (divine & almsivi).
1 big tip for your character to gain more hp when you level, level up spears, they are endurance & only a small amount of skills lol that, meaning you'd have low hp otherwise. Also don't fight Dagoth Ur without doing what is asked of you. You can fight him but you'll never win.
Wanna get insanely strong so much it's broken? Get vampirism. You'll be hated and attacked in sight, but you'll be able to literally jump over buildings.
You can be a werewolf and be accepted by society so long as No one sees you transform. If you get the ring, there's an issue where using it to force a transformation too much causes either permanent werewolf form of random transformation times, it's weird. I made a fix for that, not sure if it's still up though. It's been 17 years.
Also, Morrowind had so many more diverse spells than later games! What happened to levitate? So yeah, oblivion & Skyrim had less issues, better graphics & such but I feel the older games were more like a fantasy that got you immersed.
These videos are so great!!! Keep up the phenomenal work!
Can't wait for another upload. I'm thinking about actually playing Arena now!
Hey, I love these videos could you maybe make one on the lore of the daedra and aedra? Their beliefs where they came from and anything else you can find. I you would enjoy doing this I would love to watch!
Oh boy, I can't wait for the next one!
Wow had no idea fang lair was an already existing place, from Arena no less. Crypt of hearts as well, wow
Absolutely love all these videos, the visuals are simple and really help show the content especially with all the names, titles, etc. Only videos that have been able to really pique my interest into elder scrolls lore. Keep it up!

thank you for the video.
wants to learn everything happend before oblivion and skyrim (playing elder scrolls for the first time now, started with skyrim, will play oblivion next)
Tried this game, but couldnt even kill a rat :P
Looked up some walkthroughs, didnt find any with commentery and was hard to follow the story, so this video was amazing, to catch up with the story
in the cinematic right after you create character, Ria Silmaine says that SHE spawned the key in your cell so you can scape
Im addicted to this series
I would be into a podcast on these topics if you made them.
That's the same Uriel that was assassinated in Oblivion, right?
One of the best lore series' out there. Keep up the good work my guy.
I'd love to see a Timeline of Tamriel, starting at the beginning and touching on everything.
Fudged Muppet has a 4 or 5 part series that dose that each video gose over every era and each are about an hour long
400 hours
I played Elder Scrolls - Arena when it first came out (yeah I'm old). Funny thing was it wasn't a huge hit on release, it was an obscure title from a little known publisher and almost faded away. Arena was really saved by word of mouth (there was no internet to speak of back then), then the gaming magazines started taking notice. It was an excellent game for the time, though by today's standards it would be considered a buggy, exploit ridden mess. For instance the game was suppose to take close to 100 hours to win, however there was a spell called "Passwall" that would let you walk through dungeon walls, the spell was normally expensive to cast and had a very high failure rate, however there was an exploit where you could enchant a staff with 99 charges of the spell which never failed or cost magic and essentially just walk in a straight line to the quest target avoiding the huge dungeon mazes entirely and all the creatures and traps within and grab the staff piece. Using this exploit it was possible to solve the entire game in about 3 hours.
I hope they will make some kind of connection to this story in ES6
im sad i saw all of your TES videos to day and found out theres no more ;( great videos btw thats another sub for you sir :)
Your Elder Scrolls content is great! Could you please do a Daggerfall, Redguard, Battlespire and/or Morrowind abridged video? Thanks for your work!
Dude your video is really well made and could be easily be an official Bethesda Video (like all the others). I hope you'll continue to make these
please please oh please i is there anyway for you to make more videos preferably on the elder scrolls??? i've been binging your videos for a week now and i cant get enough
They need to make the games Movies starting with Arena
Daggerfall was amazing when I finished it. People are really missing out on stories by not playing the older games.
Keep em coming. Your passion and style is amazing.
Please make more!!!!
I need more of these
This series is awesome.
Another good vid (and I'm only a minute in)
The awnser to the staff is in the book the real beranziah, good book and it tells a while other side of jagar tharn and how he obtain the staff in the first place
The more of these videos I watch, the more I'm convinced 90% of elder scrolls lore was written to account for mistakes and retcons.
Bruh how dare you forget elderscrolls: Dawnstar. Such a good game!
0:51 - I started with Oblivion. Then played Arena, then played Morrowind and then finally played Skyrim.
I picked up Oblivion for my birthday the year it released (I was in high school at the time). Oblivion quickly became my second favourite game ever after playing it. And I couldn't get enough of it, so I tried Arena (which I was able to get for free, hence why I tried that first) and then tried Morrowind (which I bought on the cheap in my local game store shortly afterwards). And then, obviously, a few years later Skyrim came out and I played that on launch.
I have to say though, I only played a little bit of Arena and Morrowind. For Arena that game is very, very dated. Morrowind is less dated but there were some things that didn't quite work for me with Morrowind. The lack of regenerating magicka is one such thing, having to read big texts is another such thing. I like reading but when I'm in the mood to read I sit down and read a book. When I'm playing a game I don't want to spend hours reading, I want to be actually playing the game. And I know many people love there not being a quest compass in Morrowind, and that's fine, but I have to say that for me personally that really annoyed the hell out of me. There were so many moments where I just wanted to advance with the story and instead I'm searching for the "5th house on the left in Balmora" or something. All of it annoyed me enough that I eventually quit the game. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Morrowind is a great game and reading up on its lore is fascinating, but that stuff really didn't make it a pleasant experience for me. I'm hoping that Skywind will give me an opportunity to experience a version of the game and story that doesn't have all of those things.
Banishes guy to another dimension, decides to hide pieces of staff in same dimension
Nobody:
Tharn: *And I would have gotten away with it, if it wasn't for that meddling kid.*
This is pretty funny when you consider that the speedrun for Arena has you repeating the same exact dungeon 17 times only ever entering other areas to craft spells and getting quests
Make more videos PLEASE !!!!!
Keep up the good work I love your videos
whoa just seen this and finally someone who can explain lore so good :)
I loved it!
Please more.
I just beat Arena for the first time a couple days ago
my question is what happened to his other guard?
Good content, keep it up!
We want MORE!!!
*can't wait!*
Played Skyrim on the Xbox with Skyrim plus Dawnguard and Hearthfire then got it on PC for the Mods and also got Dragonborn then as well (Eventually getting and playing Dawnguard and Hearthfire again for PC) then went 'back' to Oblivion (Loved it more actually it's my favorite of the ones I've played like 5 Playthroughs so far on PC) then went 'back' to Morrowind didn't get into it until I tried it again (This was like the 11th time playing through Seyda Neen) and I finally got into it completing the whole game and it's DLC's in which I loved Bloodmoon (Full Playthrough only Once but many uncompleted playthroughs so far on PC).....This has been my Elder Scrolls Adventures! Can't wait till VI!
If I can remember coreectly Bloodmon was written by Emil Pagliarulo
Thanks Emil.
First Part for Staff of Chaos: Fang Lair at Hammerfell
Me: Huh, didn't ESO had a place called Fang Lair? *Looks it up on uesp* Oh hey, they do that's cool and it's located at...Bangkorai? Is that a part of Hammerfell or High Rock, it seems pretty high north and north eastern than it to be at Hammerfell so idk?
Second Part for Staff of Chaos: Labyrinthian of Skyrim
Me: Although we can't come here in ESO we still can come here in Skyrim so hey there's a slightly good mention back to Arena I suppose.
Third Part for Staff of Chaos: Elden Grove of Valenwood
Me: Seems like a big area to search in since it's quite literally a forest, no mention of it anywhere other than in Arena so I'm just assuming that the entire forest of Valenwood is Elden Grove or the perimeter of Elden Root's forest is Elden Grove, anyone care to add to this?
Fourth Part for Staff of Chaos: Halls of Colossus of Elsweyr
Me: Hey it's in ESO and they made a little quest involving one of the descendants of the Tharns, that's pretty nifty.
Fifth Part for Staff of Chaos: Crystal Tower of Summerset Isle
Me: Summerset DLC, enough said.
Sixth Part for Staff of Chaos: Crypt of Hearts of High Rock
Me: Yep this is a place in ESO and it's a group dungeon no less, so have fun with that folks
Seventh Part for Staff of Chaos: Murkwood of Black Marsh
Me: Unfortunately like Elden Grove there's no mention of a place like this, but there is a place called Murkmire so...that's close enough right?
Final Part for Staff of Chaos: Red Mountain of Vvardenfell(Morrowind)
Me: Well good news we can go to the Red Mountain, bad news I have no idea where tf the cave for Dagoth Ur would be at? There's Balmora which if you go about say NNE of that place you "supposedly" going to the direction of Dagoth Ur, but since no place exist in that DLC I'm just assuming that the place is just flooded with molten magma until the time ES3:M comes rolling in to play.
So that's you're tour destination for those who want to experience Arena as best you can without playing the actual game.
That’s a lot of time writing that...
@@FreezyPop And to research to see if they could be visited no less lol

Interesting story, as I was watching I was trying to imagine how things would appear with those graphics at the time... Probably stuff wouldnt be as epic as nowadays xD
Interesting how I recognize the name Tharn from Elder Scrolls Online. But that game happens in the 2E so it must be predecessors of this Tharn :o
Wait ESO takes place before all the other games?
@@willkershisnik5893 Yes, ESO takes place in the 2nd era, while Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion take place in the 3rd era, and Skyrim takes place in the 4th :)
Metzli wow that’s so weird and knew it was before Skyrim but I didn’t realize it was by that much
@@Metzli Bruh, I did know it took place before morrowind, but I didn't know it is also before arena itself.
@@olivercharles2930 it's super interesting to visit places you know, like Riften and Balmora, but it's in the past xD
The cities all look much bigger compared to Skyrim though.. It seems like a good choice to create the multiplayer game that's ever evolving in a "timeline" more away from the other games, that way they can expand easier without clashing too much with them.. and they can also make references, like Maiq, oh and there's another "Lusty Argonian Maid" book but it's genderbent xD
