Honestly before this - I just turn of Bold and use the voice command - radio and off or music on off...having to set a phone to ICC { R1200} ...and to Navi 6 then to phone and what not just to complicated....good quick video by you have helped a lot so thank you...
If I understand this correctly, can you set up your Cardo to use the phone without the GPS, and when the GPS is with you, can you switch channels? This way, you get the best of both worlds when the GPS unit has many features.
Hello, thanks for video tutorials for cardo devices. I have Cardo smartpack, i have struggles with connections because of too many devices. My cardo connected to my phone. There's an universal "Android Auto" device attached on my motorcycle, so it connected my phone too. That device has option to connect headset. When i receive call on my phone, it directs sound to "Android Auto (AA) device", sound come from device itself or sometimes on cardo. If i connect cardo to "AA device" then i can't connect to my passengers cardo. My cardo says it "busy". Can you recommend how to connect that devices properly in order ? My android auto device is universal one which have 5" screen and small canopy on it
Good question. The short answer is No because there's really only two "slots" to pair devices to on these. BUT, what you could do, is pair both GPS to the Packtalk (GPS Pairing 1, and GPS Pairing 2, respectively), then pair your phone to both GPS units. That way, your helmet will recognize either GPS, and your phone will pair with whatever GPS you're riding with that day. Hope that makes sense and helps out!
Is there an option to pair the gps to packtalk 1, then get it to send the directions to a second packtalk connected trough DMC, just like you can share the music? In short, is it possible to get the directions to a second rider?
It will pair but since the Garmin would be on mobile 2 it would have less priority than mobile phone 1 and you may miss some messages from the GPS if you're doing anything on mobile phone 1 (like listening to music from your phone). This is why GPS pairing may be better, as it has higher priority and will interrupt if you're listening to music from mobile phone 1 pairing. Hope that makes sense!
Hi, I have a PACKTALK Bold and wanted to know if I can have my google Maps on phone have priority and mute music to give directions? Thank you for your time and consideration
Edward Young Hey there, I use google Maps ALL the time and I’ve come across a few tips (credit to Google) that you can change in your phone to make this happen. First off, when you have the phone/google maps connected to the Packtalk Bold: start directions/navigation to any location. THEN, swipe up (on iOS at least), and you should see something along the line of “settings” in google maps. Okay, so once you’re there, you’ll see a few different options. If you select to “play directions as phone call” (or something similar to that), you’ll get the exact operation you’re looking for. Navigation will totally override music. OR, you can keep the settings as is, and just select “Loud” for the navigation voice. I do the latter: this way the music dips to the background, the navigation is nice and loud, and music returns up...but that’s just my own preference. I hope that helps a bit and good luck!
@christopher howe The little roller wheel on the Packtalk adjusts the volume for whatever is happening at THAT moment....so...if you roll that wheel (lowering volume) WHILE the GPS is talking that should do the trick! Only pain is trying to get the GPS to talk long enough... but it should do the trick. As for phone; once the phone is connected to the Packtalk, make sure the PHONE's volume is all the way up. You may have to do this again while on an actual phone call (call someone with your helmet on while just standing there with the phone in your hand) because the phone treats that volume as a separate thing altogether. Again, little bit of a pain, but once things get sorted you should be all good. Hope that helps!
Hey there just saw your comment. Okay so when pairing a GPS and a phone, there's two different ways you can set them up, and it's totally up to you on which way is the best fit. Checkout the video again starting a 2:40...this is where I explain the pros and cons of both methods.....that should help out and let me know if not!
MGF: Quick question for you: What is the functional difference between GPS pairing vs Phone? You mention a "higher priority". I've scoured the internet and am having a hard time understanding when to pair my Zumo as a Phone vs GPS and how that will cause the audio coming from the GPS to behave when it is "competing" with another device in the other device slot (phone/GPS) of the Packtalk. If you have some time...maybe it's worth making a video on this. I've seen some people asking the same question. Thanks again for making such useful and clear videos. Ride safe.
Dan Mulkiewicz Hey Dan! Glad you dig the videos and thanks. As for the “GPS Pairing”, I think it just tells the headset to let THAT signal override everything and come in no matter what (other than an active phone call which takes ultimate priority). If the GPS sends commands in A2DP (Bluetooth stereo profile) and you want it to be “blended/overlaid” with comms then you could probably pair it any way you’d like. In short, the “GPS Pairing” tells the headset to give that signal the higher priority. Hope that helps!!
@@MotoGeekFreak I have a Zumo 595lm and it appears that with it paired as "GPS" that I can hear the GPS instructions as the priority above everything else....it's extremely loud actually....the interesting part is that I could also hear my buddy talking in the background at a much lower level. So it definitely seems like it's a priority thing....but it's still mixing. So I'm going to have to do some more testing....hmmm...I wonder if pairing the GPS as a phone (which I've normal done with Sena in the past) will maybe prevent the mixing and cut everything out since I believe the Zumo 595lm is transmitting as HFP...I'll report back if I can figure out an answer.
@@danmulkiewicz5515 Oh wow interesting. I didn't think you would be able to hear your buddy when the GPS kicks in when paired as a "GPS"! Interesting...yeah post your findings for sure once you play it with it some more, now I'm curious! Thanks!
@@MotoGeekFreak Ok, I can confirm from a ride last weekend that in DMC mode, I can hear my Zumo 595LM giving voice instructions while people are talking on the intercom.
I just bought the PACKTALK BOLD 2 weeks ago and found out it won't pair with my older GARMIN Nuvi765. Ok, it's old so I bought a brand new GARMIN DriveSmart 51 LMT-S. It has the bluetooth that's needed unlike a lot of others that don't. I attempted to pair the new GPS and it shows up on the screen as "there" and when I attempt to pair, GARMIN says that the PACKLTALK BOLD is "incompatible". CARDO dropped the ball on this one saying that the DRIVESMART series won't work and I have to buy those WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overpriced ZUMO "motorcycle" GPS's. Weird, since I think there's NO REASON to buy a GPS like a ZUMO since I've been using "car GPS's" for over 2 decades now, and I think that's total BS and there's no reason to be spending on ANOTHER OVERPRICED item just to hear the GPS voice. PACKTALK pairs just fine with my iPHONE and works just fine, so what's the problem with the GPS? Is there a work-around?
That's a key difference between a motorcycle GPS and one that's designed for cars. The car one has a Bluetooth pairing for a phone (consider that an input) while a motorcycle specific GPS has one pairing for a phone and a separate pairing for a headset (consider that an output). A GPS designed for cars is incapable of pairing to a headset. Hope that helps!

saved me a massive headache as I could not get phone and gps to link to headset. Thanks

Hi can the pack talk share gps to other riders in the group?
No unfortunately, and I don’t think any model from any brand will do this (yet, at least)
Thx good explanation and it work.
However my gps screems in my helmet
How do you control the volume on the GPS only mine is very loud the phone volume is OK HELP !
