1:42 I love how he says battleaxe
Goosebumps!
It's sounds like a warcry
Same especially after the Gatling move!
Bro the acting in this is top notch. I loved the battle moves
Straight up whooped that ass too.
Okay but Arlong pulling out his shark teeth like that in live action is nightmare fuel
It’s actually pretty toned down all things considered, imagine if he had pulled out his entire jawline twice like in the anime and then grew back in a brand new lower face basically?
Ikr....cause in anime you don't the blood when new teeth come but the regen was just creepy
Doesn't need to pull his teeth, he could just bite Luffy. Strange that his signature move has been omitted
@@calvintan8877 yeah.... removing only most creepiest move....removing his whole teeth line and using like clippers...twist gums

@padapada7851 let people have different opinions fool quit this gate keeping shit lol. Honestly this is probably one of the best live action adaptations to an Anime in general. So many flops this one did pretty good. Not saying better than anime btw.

1:43 bro I love his scream such an anime vibe mixed with him screaming while kicking arlong through the floor felt so cool and hype rewatching it with the Japanese dub gives a crazier experience
0:56 The thing I like most about this bit is Luffy is just trolling him. Like Luffy knows he can win, but he also knows it'll hurt Arlong more to bring his empire down.
no they nerrfed him, he meant to say he cant win, in the anime luffy is far superior
@@MELIODAS-hx2nz in anime making your characters op feels good in live action they should feel like it was a closer battle just works better
Luffy actually never felt he cant beat Arlong. He took the hits from his opponents but he never thought he could be beaten. Especially in this Arlong fight.
@@Griemmy obviously the mindset of luffy shouldn't even be a discussion of course he thinks he won't lose

Kudos to the star actor for being able to say gum gum before his attacks and not sound completely goofy. Gum gum the umph when he kicks through the ceiling to the Batttle Axe!!!!! Was good enough to be voice acting let alone live action.
That Gatling looks so good in live action
And the fact that it was kind of blurry it’s actually better because you can’t even see in the anime show because it’s too fast
Battle axe was dope too!
True it looks good as well
And yea you can actually see it in the live action
The Gatling Attack looks very similar to Ash's Lucario's (Mega Lucario) Bullet Punch! I freaked out when Luffy started doing it!
That Gum-Gum Battleaxe scream was glorious.
😂
For those who are saying "Luffy would never say that" first off luffy said is so casually knowing damn well he's gonna kick the hell outta him, he's just making him think he has a chance while also destroying everything he built just to mess with him..
.....sounds like Luffy to me
I think this version has more character development. You can see his frustration after losing nami and almost losing zoro because he let him fight a warlord. So if we see an entire different luffy at the end, it won't bother me.
People out there still think luffy is goodie two shoe 💀
@@MarcocidoI 100% agree. I didn’t like Luffy at all until skypeia, and he wasn’t even one of my favorite characters until post time skip. Early Luffy is one of the most annoying MCs ever but this version is more relatable, well developed and still similar enough to feel right. Not saying that manga/anime Luffy isn’t a lovable MC, he’s definitely grown on me, but live action Luffy is far better so far
@@dansbigfanguitarist why was he so annoying early on? Too cheerful and carefree? The live action luffy can't even act. @marcocido said character development in the live action was better but how? Cuz he's frustrated about nami and zoro?
Luffy was scared when zoro almost died in the anime and he wasn't worried about nami cuz he wasn't gonna just let her go. he went and got her back like a boss. Took skypea for you to like luffy? You wasn't already liking luffy when he smacked Bellamy? Just wondering..
Not as bad as Moistcritikal (sp?) having Luffy as his most hated character even after Enies Lobby.@@SunnyGo9000
Oh man, that battle axe scream was just on point!! Very well done Iñaki, you did it great. 👌🏽
One of the things I was worried about was how the gum gum moves would look but they did a really nice job with them.
Let's get some things straight..We don't know if Luffy really meant what he said, regarding him not knowing if he can win against Arlong.
My guess is that he mostly did it for Nami, but wanted to hurt Arlong in the process..
Luffy even said "This place is a prison to her". That's the reason he destroyed the place, but the live action didn't hold that moment longer..It just gave the nodd to the manga there..
Luffy is actually smarter in the live action than in the show, which is a good thing.
Yeah that's what most people don't realize, like luffy literally didn't pull out gatling till this episode which seems to work very effectively, like he sent arlong flying just with a few seconds of that, so pretty obvious that luffy CAN defeat arlong here
Luffy is pretty smart in the anime/manga as well. When he cares to be. It just so happens that he doesn't care about it at all.
So when it does come out, it's always a surprise. You just gotta speak his language, like Robin
The main part is that you can't really have actors behave like cartoon characters.
If you watch Dumb and Dumber now, its really just a story of two complete psychopaths that slipped through the system and are somehow allowed to function amongst regular humans.
I’m a fan of smart but airheaded Luffy. In the East Blue Arc and onwards and some parts of the pre-timeskip era Luffy felt more like a liability because he was so stupid, I _really_ didn’t like him for a bit (but his comedic moments definitely carried him and myself through that part of the show).
@@kiyaleelevyrunaya9495 bro litreally got his legs stuck in ground which caused a lot of trouble to rest of the crew.

"maybe i can't beat you" isn't something luffy would said, especially during east blue where he's still green and doesn't know defeat yet
Heck, in the anime / manga, luffy is very confident on kicking arlong's ass, and he destroyed the building in the process of kicking his ass as he found nami's prison
But again, LA luffy is shown to have a little more basic intellegence than his animation counterpart anyway
Luffy doesn't actually mean it though in this scene and you completely missed the point. Luffy is toying with him and knows he can beat him. But he also knows what happens if he brings his empire down as a result.
@@mewgiah8057sfu no one cared about your D riding, thats not something luffy would say period
Luffy "losing" to him in the first fight kinda ticked me off. Part of his confidence was him believing he can beat everybody until he got destroyed on marineford.
For the live action though, it’s more of a wink to the audience about what Luffy is doing there. Winning is secondary, what matters more is that map room is going to be gone.
So?
The fight could've been better but damn, that battle axe slaps.
It easily could've been much worse, this is the only good live adaptation of an animated show
My thoughts exactly. I wish there was a bit more of an exchange in terms of fisticuffs but the Gatling and Battle Axe 🤌🏽
Yeah I would’ve liked the gatling gun to have lasted longer. The battle axe was well done, though I wish Arlong was able to bite Luffy too
Slaped Arlong through several floors anyway XD
Yeah, they did the best they could, considering all the budget/ time constraints!
"Luffy would never admit defeat"
*THAT'S NOT WHAT HE DID HERE, THO*
Luffy never admitted defeat at any point of this fight.
Luffy said "maybe I can't beat you" just to shut Arlong up because he wouldn't stop saying that to him. But he himself never believed for a moment that he wouldn't beat Arlong. That's why he told Nami to leave. He wasn't going to need any help to deal with Arlong.
And Luffy did exactly what he said he would do.
that "battle axe" sound soo epic man...

@@linggareisenring195no it doesn't? It actually looks good?

This shit is super dope. I always thought one piece was corny growing up because of pirates not being my thing but this live action is super flame, got me into the anime and wow the writing is phenomenal, a lot of love with into each and every character’s development and backstory
It IS corny, but corny being played with love, effort and understanding is perhaps some of the greatest storytelling and entertainment imaginable. Lord of the Rings, Classical mythology, Comic book heroes and Pulp fiction all tie into these corny themes, but they all work because the people who made them understood how to tell them.
0:03 I hear no one talking about how freaking badass and awesome this part was
Luffy was NOT PHASED at all and broke the sword like it was a toy-
Let's ignore the bad sound effects, the poor grip on the sword, the fact that he pulled it away with no tension or effort (the thing was practically floating), and the unrealistic way the sword broke. If you ignore all of that, it was sooooo good.
@@kylerxiusso your saying rubber powers are more realistic
The live action reminds of live action movies from the early 90s and 2000s for sum reason, I like that
Compared none. Manga, manga. Anime, anime. Live action, live action. But these, are just magnificent.
Yea
This looks so much better than I was expecting
The audacity of IGN rating this lower than Cowboy bebop and Death note live action 😂
Ign usually has the worst takes
It's IGN
For real?

@@BigK13372 IGN is complete trash
theres no fucking wayt
1:25 I will never get over the fact that somehow, one of the goofiest abilities Luffy possesses, looks so fluid in live Action.
Damn! The trailers didn't do this live action any justice. This was awesome!
It did, some people just don't shut the fuck up!
the trailers were good tho
The scream of Luffy is pure gold
First of all, they did an excellent job of depicting the frankly CARTOONISH aspects of the series in live action.
Secondly, I'm pretty sure Luffy was telling Arlong that one way or another, that asshole was about to lose EVERYTHING.
Thirdly...him being able to yell out techniques starting with "Gum-Gum" and NOT sound silly is a testament to his acting skills.
“Maybe I can’t beat you… but I can destroy everything you’ve built.” Best lines ever!
Luffy admitting defeat is utterly out of character. This is not why he destroyed Arlong park. He destroyed it because it was a prison for Nami.
I will admit while I do enjoy the series alot that one line where he says that maybe he can't beat him did pull me out the story a bit since OG Luffy would never do that (unless it's Garp lol)
The reality was. luffy at this point could murder the entire Arlong crew if he wanted to.
He was alot stronger and better than Arlong. Luffy had the emotional shit going on with Nami, that held him back. He wanted to free Nami, not beat Arlong. Thats why his quote and realization that he realized finally how to free Nami is so powerful.
Luffy doesnt defeat his foes. He defeats their purposes. Everytime. Theres always a symbolical thing Luffy takes down.
Arlong Park, The Untouchable Crocodile being in the sky, beaten a damn symbol that Alabasta is free.
The Gong from the Bell in Sky Island.
Lucci was probably the 1st time ever Luffy beat somebody to beat them. He even talks about this, he needed to gear up to protect his Nakama.
The early arcs of One Piece is for establishing what Luffy means to the worlds he impacts, hes symbol of freedom.
So by changing his realization that hes going to bring down everything Arlong has worked for, and not free Nami of that room, misrepresents Luffy greatly.
And what do you know it, Oda understood this too.
Luffy telling the world government to fuck off was a change in Luffy's character, it was more of a message to every Arlong, every Crocodile etc. And then he beats Lucci. Backing up his words.
I mean he did do it in Sabaody, Marineford, whole cake island and impel down
@@alexmason250 That's bc he was nuch weaker than the antagonists and he priorized saving his crew, here he's supposed to be much stronger than Arlong they even did the sword lock breaking thing, and as op already mentioned his reasoning to destroy Arlong Park is completely misrepresented.

0:22 "👹THINK YOU CAN ESCAPE ME NAMI!?!?👹" 😂😂😂
1:23 I love that phrase

Are no one gonna talk about Arlong's actor accent when he said "no! Puny! Human!can take down AHRLUUNGPAHRK!!" I just can't stop laughing after said those lines AHRLUHNGPHARKH
Live Action powerscaling is so interesting, because they made the villains much stronger while keeping the heroes a bit more grounded. In the East Blue, many of the Luffy fights were kind of a joke for him, the stakes, damage and rage being more on the circumstances and villainy of his opponents.
I love the guy they chose for Luffy.
He is perfect for the role.
I watched the One Piece Netflix adaptation and even though some moments were not mentioned and other moments were.... questionable, like this particular scene, I think One Piece was pretty well done. This actor portraying Luffy is not bad at all. Even the Arlong actor does a decent job.
this scene was good tf u on
the actor is terrible. He just looks the part, luffy is a lively confident crazy goofy creative battle genius. This guy is a boring stretchy person with personality of a regular guy thats not luffy.
they just don't have enough funding for those moments, they already spent 17million on each episode
What you mean nit bad at all? Iñaki Is one lf the Best actors in the show, he's the real luffy, AND arlong was amazing too

The "BATTLE-AXEEEE!" is pretty fuckin' raw
I haven't watched the anime in over a decade, but I think this Luffy is smarter than his animated counterpart.
Tbh this was epic af
I feel like luffy is no longer immune to punches, blunt attacks, walls etc 😅
Yea I used to think that too haha but what I noticed was luffy never really looked beaten up or bruised from the blunt attacks (from what I recall), he just had the air knocked out of him which makes sense, I mean the reason why he survived the building collapsing on itself is with his gum gum fruit. That's what I think anyway!
rubber does quite well against blunt objects ;)
GUM-GUM BATTLE AXE
They should reward Kingley Belcher III by putting Arlong in Impel Down, so we can see him again when we get to the Summit War arc
0:22 the way he says it 😭
🤣🤣
The show missed the point of why luffy destroyed the arlong mansion. Luffy doesn’t give a fuck about anyone building an empire as long as you dont messed with his friends or make any good folk suffer, he wouldn’t mind you.
Luffy destroyed it because he realized it would saved nami that it would helped free nami’s chains.
The show is 75% good and 15% bad except most of the 15% is the hard hitting stuff
They had to wrap a lot of things in just 8 eps. I think they did very well considering 52 anime episodes (roughly 23 hours) had to be condensed in to 8 episodes (8 hours).
I do wish they were given more time for this season 100%
10 eps would have been awesome
@@HazyBlackest Runtime has nothingnto do with misrepresenting the characters, instead of "Maybe I cant beat you but I can destroy everything you've built" he could have said "I dont care about your empire but this is a prison for Nami so I gotta bring it down" and the runtime would have been the same. They do so many unnecessary changes that just do huge disservices to the characters it's just dumb
Only if you interpret the scene on the surface level. His reason for destroying arlong park does not deviate from the original. He knows the place's existence only serves as bad memory for nami.
He doesn't need to explicitly say "This is nami's prison, I'm destroying it". A moment ago scene shows luffy observing the chain, that alone tells you the reason that he's destroying arlong park.
great anime live action since kenshin
I don't know if it's just me, but if I was a fish woman... live action Arlong👀👀😉😂

Usually super fast anime punches looks silly in live action. But luffys gattling gun looked good here c:
The comment section is a fucking disaster.
This is where the 10% of people are located lol
That was very cinematic
The battle axe ending yes, but the fight has the taste of Super Sentai stuff.
"Nami Doesn't belong to you or anyone. She's a person with wants and dreams of her own & you took that away from her. You're no better then the Celestial Dragons, the navy or anybody else who hurts other people. So, I'm gonna kick your ass like i did theirs."
I cant wait for more seasons holy fucking shit
I enjoyed the live action, but i really wish they didnt change up Arlong Park so much. The changes weren't terrible but missing the moment where the townspeople thank nami and tell her that she doesnt need to carry the burden any longer, and the moment when Luffy finds the bloodstained pen in Namis room just kinda took out a lot of the emotional weight of this arc. I'm also really disappointed they didnt add the part where Luffy snaps Arlongs nose cus that was just super hype and feels like a weird omission from the fight. Outside of that, hoping they get a season 2, I'll be looking forward to it.
Agreed.
Yeah, unfortunately they had to go super lean with early story to adhere to schedule while still keeping only the most important things. I’m hoping the success of this will give them more time to create a longer, more detailed season. One piece drags some arcs soooo long, far longer than necessary, so I think they can cover a similar amount of episodes (60) In about 16 1 hours episodes if they have more time
Weird omission is removing the biting. Live action make Luffy looks unscathed after fighting arlong
@@calvintan8877this is what happens when you have limited budget and time, it sucks, Arlong should have been played by someone with a lot more muscle and size, the only character who fits the og look is luffy himself.

Thats the point, the anime will never get old because it is the original.
this sequence is a bit robbed of emotional charge the original had
It was alot more gory in the anime. I wish they let arlong bite luffy a few times or claw at him
