Maybe at a lower resolution, but you could probably get a lot of "next gen" games to play on older hardware if you lower the resolution and target framerate
@@haroonp8842 I can't think of any scenario where jank is preferable unless making your game realistic holds the gameplay back. However with enough effort developers can achieve both. Look at Ghost of Tsushima for example. Realistic looking and excellent gameplay animations while having top tier combat mechanics at the same time that put the recent janky Assassin's Creed games to shame in both aspects.
I never really felt like the combat in the new AC games was janky at all. I miss the stealth that the series startled with, but the combat flow feels pretty good to me in origins/odyssey/valhalla The "climbing" in ghost of tsushima though.. THATS janky. Exactly what I expected considering how awkward the climbing was in the infamous games.

I played Ratchet and Clank 2016 and Rift Apart back to back on my PS5 and one of the things I really love is how fluid the movement is now. I also never had any frame drops playing in performance ray tracing mode!
Works well, when turning really fast in some places it's noticable for me but not to the point where it's bothering me. Found RT mode to look and play the best, even better than fidelity which they used in this video. Playing with a LG 4k OLED so resolution doesn't seem to be everything there is to it :)

From an art and visual stand point Rift, Rift Apart looks 10x better and has this certain contrast that the other lacks. It's something about the contrast in that game that makes 2016 R&C look a little flat. 2016 R&C has vibrant colors but Rift Apart is even more colorful and awesome use of contrast. Also, the clarity is just out of this world!
Rift Apart generally has a far greater color palette and also more different lighting; some areas and maps of the game are REALLY dark (near pitch black), which makes them seem alot better. Its weird that this game has Pixar (or cartoon) graphics, but still seems real somehow; Insomniac did a fantastic job with Rift Apart!
@@xXYannuschXx I concur. I think it's the use of superb ambient occlusion on most materials. I think that is what gives it a stark difference in rendering. The clarity in this game is just phenomenal and I can just stare at the scenery all day. Can't wait to get a PS5 and this game and experience the game and photo mode.
It's possible some of that could be down to the video capture, I'd say that R&C 2016 when actually played on a console is still really vibrant, though obviously the extra AO and more detailed, sharper shadows gives Rift Apart a bit more oomph.

I'm 43 I've been playing games since I was 3 and this is without doubt the best looking game I have ever seen. I can't praise the developers enough for making this, especially now.
Hardly, the game looks fantastic but outside of the addition of Rivet and Kit and the new planets, the game was empty and short. I would have liked to see hoverboard/hoverboot races and a much bigger arena.
Not even close,as great the game is visually and game play wise. I that always play slow and look everything,go to every corner,manage to finish the game in 5:25 hours. To short even as beautifull it is not worth 70 to me
I recently bought a PS5 and this game is the only game that has actually wowed me with its visuals and gameplay. Spider-Man MM did nothing for me and GOW Rag was good but not great and bored me at times. This game was fun and I got it for $20. First PlayStation console I’ve ever had I’ve been an Xbox user since 2001 and still am but I’ve now also become a PlayStation fan thanks to this game.
It's like, you look at PS5 "oh yeah that looks alright" then go back to PS4 and you don't really pinpoint that big of a difference from memory, then you look at them side to side and it's night and day, it's crazy. just shows how impressive PS4 still is and how impressive the 5 will be in the future
Just started playing this and wow! The game play is so full on and action packed, The graphics and sound track emersion are really immersive and all combined with the controllers Haptic feedback where you can even feel him walking is just fantastic, Especially the bass in the Nightclub. So far this is the best game I have played.
I agree and it only makes me more excited for future exslusive titles taking advantage of the PS5 hardware it'll be awhile till we get full on PS5 exslusives due to the shortages but when the inventory stabalizes developers will finally be able to move they're focus towards naking games on the system that can go balls to the wall.
Damn, I did not think the difference would be this drastic. Rift Apart honestly makes the Remake look like a PS3 game in comparison, and I remember being blown away with how crisp the Remake looked in 2016.
Usually, if the reflection is grainy and has no anti-aliasing, it's a raytraced reflection... If it's smooth/blurry and anti-aliased, it's a cube- or spherical environment map. Current new-gen HW raytracing isn't powerful enough yet to do anti-aliased raytraced reflections and true glossy raytraced reflections (although it's possible to raytrace the reflection first and then apply a blur effect on the result, which is what I think they did with clank's metal body, they raytraced the environment reflections and then applied an anisotropic blur effect to make it look like glossy, anisotropic (eg the metal is polished in a direction), shiny metal.
I still believe the most fascinating aspect of the game is the fact you never see a loading screen, nor do you ever feel like the game is loading. Play the PS4 Rachet and then the PS5 version and realize how long you’ve been looking at loading screens last gen.
I played Rift Apart on PS5 recently (Performance RT mode, OLED TV). Every time I start the game I get shocked by how good it looks, while still running very smoothly. After the shock comes consistent enjoyment of the presentation. Even just looking at the weapon and character models in the menu is very enjoyable. However, I was even more delightfully surprised of how well it played and how fun it was, but I had much higher expectations for the tech than the gameplay.
Until the Direct Comparison I hadn't really thought about how much more detail there was between 2016 and Rift Apart. Playing it now it just feels amazing and seamless.
Rift Apart is fantastic from the start till the end, but one thing I didn't like was the voice acting of the Mrs. Zurkon shopkeeper. She just sounds terribly over-acted... Especially when she introduces / previews a new weapon... I preferred the grummels from the "grummelnet" shops in the previous games in the "Ratchet and Clank Future" Saga ... "Keep the safety on, chief!" LOL :)
Im looking forward to playing this on Monday, i got my PS5 10 days ago so im skint till Monday but I’m really looking forward to playing this 😊 (the first thing i did with my PS5 was platinum Astros Playroom and i loved every second of it) 😊

I feel like the eyes are actually RT reflections, seeing as the reflections only show up in photo mode they can afford the extra processing power to do that
I didn't really have it on my watch list got it yesterday and I'm so frigging impressed! It is so awesome! Like astro's playroom this is really next gen. The switching between dimensions is so fluent I caught myself just walking back and forth because i couldn't believe what's happening 😂❤️
The audio comparison is kind of difficult to compare because the dual sense controller adds so much to it that its hard to recreate it for a youtube video. I personally was surprised at how much the ps5 controller adds to the game and Insomniac did a great job with it. Most games the "rumble" feels like an annoyance but Insomniac some how made it feel like a natural part of the game. Insomniac really knows how to take advantage of a system's strengths and I can't wait to play their future titles, especially the next Spider-man game.
I pre-ordered my PS5 at the end of november 2020. The pre-orders till mid november 2020 are delivered. That means my PS5 is very close now. Can't wait to play this game on my 4K TV UPDATE: I GOT MY PS5 YESTERDAY WITH R&C
i heard insomniac doesn’t overwork and crunch their develops like a lot of other studios, so good on them, that’s commendable and if there’s any game company to support, it’s them
It'll be interesting to see another sequel in 4-5 years and to see what they can do then when they've pushed the console to it's limits. The fact they've managed to do some impressive stuff pretty early on in the PS5's life is just insane. If you go back to 2014, pretty much every game that year looked better than something on PS3 but not by a ton, but by 2015 games just made 2014 and 2013 games look potato mode. Only thing I'm disappointed with so far is Rivet doesn't have her own unique animations, the running, walking, jumping, and everything are all the same animations as Ratchet which is very strange

7:25 are you sure? I've seen many devs saying the eyes are also ray traced. I also noticed it reflects pretty accurately and the NPCs' eyes are ray traced as well. I can see the NPCs accurately in Rachet's eye and Rachet accurately in NPCs eyes.
Yeah, the eyes are raytraced. Basically when RT is turned on, any surface that's reflective enough has RT applied to it. From the eyes, to the bullet casings, to the bolts. I don't know why Nick says the eyes are using cubemaps.
I actually looked at that, but didnt want to deal with sony interactives copyright claim system with their movies by including images (I know, it wouldve been fair use but still) And nah, film still technically looks better. However, this latest game gets pretty darn close
I just wish they added more small details to the game. Like that one level with Ratchet when he goes underground and there's a monster. The details being; water and dirt causing mud, after walking on mud it doesn't leave footprints filled with mud.

I find the RiftApart sound better since its not noisy as hell and more futuristic fitting for the weapons... you wont wake your kids or wife... and get sucked into the feel of the style
Are you sure the reflection on the eyes isn’t ray tracing? To me it wouldn’t make sense to use screen space reflections of something the camera can’t see. I’d bet they use ray tracing on the eyes when you enter photo mode.
the sound difference makes the remake sound way more chunkier and more satisfying for a shootemup game, but the RA sounds more like how I would expect the guns to sound and are more subtle, there's more finesse to their sound. interesting break down. they are both gorgeous games and RA really takes a big step further

yea game is absolutely amazing and it feels like super step up in gamin overall with adaptive triggers and all the rumble of surfaces, it's like first thing that changed how I enjoyed games since like dualshock, it's crazy. BTW I did make 200 screenshots in platinum ratchet journey game was that stunning
I honestly feel that if Insomniac remade Ratchet and Clank again in 2021 for the PS4 it would've looked much much better, I mean look at Spiderman PS4, the level of detail on that game is almost comparable to Rift Apart, I mean sure that fur may not have been as detailed on the PS4, but the clothes and other textures would've been of a much higher level of detail

@@theblah12 Even on console the 2016 game felt really flat color wise, likely because they tried to re-create the color palette of the movie.
With the ray traycing the didnt need to ajust the ligths and shadows as much, so they where able to put more details in.

Fun fact: when launching the game it takes around 16 sec to get from the ps5 menu to the actual gameplay. The ps5 ssd really shines with this one.

The eye reflection is not a cubemap. I could see characters reflected in their eyes perfectly clean.

Games before always looked worse compared to animated movies like Pixar.Because of Ray tracing.But this looks equally or sometime better

Rift apart takes me back to my childhood
Really just shows that Insomniac, whether with R&C 2016, Rift Apart, or the Spider-Man trilogy, REALLY knows how to make a game.
The audio comparison is kind of difficult to compare because the dual sense controller adds so much to it that its hard to recreate it for a youtube video.
I personally was surprised at how much the ps5 controller adds to the game and Insomniac did a great job with it. Most games the "rumble" feels like an annoyance but Insomniac some how made it feel like a natural part of the game.
Insomniac really knows how to take advantage of a system's strengths and I can't wait to play their future titles, especially the next Spider-man game.
This is crazy because I thought 2016 looked so good when I played it but it's nothing next to rift apart
Jut got a PS5 this week and got this game with it. Can't wait to play it this weekend!
The first game that wowed me in a long while
The music really stands out in rift apart and the whole game has a cohesive tone. Wayyyy better than in 2016 which was just neither here nor there.
I pre-ordered my PS5 at the end of november 2020.
The pre-orders till mid november 2020 are delivered.
That means my PS5 is very close now.
Can't wait to play this game on my 4K TV

the term "if you are lucky enough to get a ps5" is daunting and hurtful at this point
i heard insomniac doesn’t overwork and crunch their develops like a lot of other studios, so good on them, that’s commendable and if there’s any game company to support, it’s them
They did that with the original 3 ratchet and clank games so they’ve already learned it’s not worth itm
Insomniac games is absolutely amazing company! truly gives a next gen gaming experience with their games
It'll be interesting to see another sequel in 4-5 years and to see what they can do then when they've pushed the console to it's limits. The fact they've managed to do some impressive stuff pretty early on in the PS5's life is just insane. If you go back to 2014, pretty much every game that year looked better than something on PS3 but not by a ton, but by 2015 games just made 2014 and 2013 games look potato mode. Only thing I'm disappointed with so far is Rivet doesn't have her own unique animations, the running, walking, jumping, and everything are all the same animations as Ratchet which is very strange
but eyes definitely have RT reflections.
they reflect NPCs in exact same poses.
Just Platinumed R&C rift apart tonight. Was considering older R&C but idk man I hate starting off with such a dang masterpiece imo and going backwards 😂 I have plenty other games to play rn. But Rift Apart was absolutely phenomenal!

I was personally offended when he called the story cheesy. Rift Apart has the best thematic elements this series has seen thus far.

Playing the Remake on PS5 and it's looking pretty good but damn Rift Apart looks awesome!
I think the guns have a more unique sound in the new game but I kinda like the punchiness of the old one
Damn sound effect in Rift Apart is like playing with water guns while in 2016 its like you are using weapons of mass destruction.

7:25 are you sure? I've seen many devs saying the eyes are also ray traced. I also noticed it reflects pretty accurately and the NPCs' eyes are ray traced as well. I can see the NPCs accurately in Rachet's eye and Rachet accurately in NPCs eyes.
Yeah, the eyes are raytraced. Basically when RT is turned on, any surface that's reflective enough has RT applied to it. From the eyes, to the bullet casings, to the bolts. I don't know why Nick says the eyes are using cubemaps.
The cutscenes in this game look better than the rachet and clank movie
I actually looked at that, but didnt want to deal with sony interactives copyright claim system with their movies by including images (I know, it wouldve been fair use but still)
And nah, film still technically looks better. However, this latest game gets pretty darn close
I just wish they added more small details to the game. Like that one level with Ratchet when he goes underground and there's a monster. The details being; water and dirt causing mud, after walking on mud it doesn't leave footprints filled with mud.
Crappy PS5. I bet Series X would have mud ;)
Rift apart is a great game !!! I had a lot of fun playing it . Who cares if it’s geared towards younger people . Haha it looks great plays great ! I couldn’t stop playing it !!! So much fun

I find the RiftApart sound better since its not noisy as hell and more futuristic fitting for the weapons...

Are you sure the reflection on the eyes isn’t ray tracing? To me it wouldn’t make sense to use screen space reflections of something the camera can’t see. I’d bet they use ray tracing on the eyes when you enter photo mode.
I didn't say they're using SSR for the eyes. I said cube maps. Those are not ray traced.
the sound difference makes the remake sound way more chunkier and more satisfying for a shootemup game, but the RA sounds more like how I would expect the guns to sound and are more subtle, there's more finesse to their sound. interesting break down. they are both gorgeous games and RA really takes a big step further

I just want to remind that it is Sunset Overdrive's engine. That's really big progress in graphics
yea game is absolutely amazing and it feels like super step up in gamin overall with adaptive triggers and all the rumble of surfaces, it's like first thing that changed how I enjoyed games since like dualshock, it's crazy. BTW I did make 200 screenshots in platinum ratchet journey game was that stunning
I honestly feel that if Insomniac remade Ratchet and Clank again in 2021 for the PS4 it would've looked much much better, I mean look at Spiderman PS4, the level of detail on that game is almost comparable to Rift Apart, I mean sure that fur may not have been as detailed on the PS4, but the clothes and other textures would've been of a much higher level of detail
I haven’t been this impressed with a game since gears in 2006. This was my first time playing ratchet and I loved it. Just epic 🔥from beginning to end!
