Good for you. Our forefathers fought to have cash so that they had freedom to spend their wages where they wanted. If I was there, I would have argued that cash is legal and if they refuse it / dishonour it, I would be entitled to take the food away for free under the law. It's their problem. Personally, I would leave the right money on the counter, take a pic, and leave.

The NT is a business and they shouldn't be dictating their rules onto the public when there is an Act of Parliament covering cash as being legal. They go against Banking Law as well.

I was a member for three years (2014,15,&16)....it was cheaper for me to do that at the time as I was spending most weekends and sometimes a 10 days three or four times a year staying in the car park at Studland coz I did a lot of swimming at the time (day & night...summer , spring, winter & autumn)....whatever the weather...and mostly "skinny"...some peeps used to report me when I went into the sea fully clothed coz they thought I was unaliving myself! 😂

My husband and I used to be NT members, we cancelled our membership years ago when they became woke and also closed all their car parks during the lockup. Trying to pander to the narrative and also some younger people who buy the narrative has alienated from them the many people who had been long term supporters. The NT won't exist in a few years time if access to the countryside is curtailed, but their directors don't or won't see it.

@@paulhawley7885 if you’ve registered online you can’t do it . I said I don’t have a bank or internet so they sent me a code . It’s a one off code so I can no longer top up . They have tried to put me on monthly which I’ve refused as I’m pay as you go . They now tried to say they will credit my meters and I pay at the end of the month 🤣🤣 NO CHANCE . I then removed my meters , registered them with Haste uk energy safety then I registered them with octopus which then makes my meters private property. They cannot charge you meter rates as it’s mine so I now charge them and only pay for what I use 💪🏴✝️🙏

It is time to withdraw from the system that just wants your energy, but also gets to decide who lives and who dies. They are trying to ban growing your own food also, that tells you everything.
I do Uber deliveroo and JE on a 125 scooter since 2018.
Had to come home on Saturday night as it got too windy to ride.
Only been one other time this has happened which was around six months around.
Also since 2020 I've seen a lot of those vans with blue lights, can't use the word cause the post will vanish.

Leverhulme Estate tried to get planning permission on the Wirral to build hundreds of houses on farmland. Wirral is one of a few areas with officially protected greenbelt. Luckily the council rejected the applications and the appeal went against it too. What saddened me to hear at one of the appeal hearings was that at least one of the small farmers had been told that he could not take over his dad's lease to continue farming. A nearby farm has been converted into housing... For the time being Leverhulme Estates have said that they'd be scrutinising the council's development plans.
That's it...I'm going to cancel my membership. Goodbye NT.

Hi Richard, I know you are local to Worthing. I don't know if you have noticed the vast amounts of trees that have been stripped from the South Downs in the area . Along the north side of the downs near Bury near Arundel, the area on the north side of the hills of Chanctonbury, and all along the A24. It is said to be to do with Ash die back, this maybe the reason for removal but there is absolutely no sign of any replanting of these existing wooded areas. Some of this removal started 3 or 4 years ago. Some body has made vast amounts of money selling this timber but the trees are not eing replaced. When they want to start taking farming land for rewinding but they are not replanting the existing wooded areas something doesn't sit right.
I emailed the South Downs Park authority about it as I found it very sad this was being done. The excuse was blaming red tape that removal had been approved but the mix of replanting was yet to be agreed by another department. Just a load of twoddle really. They take a huge excavator and widen a small footpath to drive this machine into the countryside, decimating anything in its path. Zero care for the environment is being used, any non Ash trees damaged are just collateral damage along with any other living thing.
Please take a stroll in these areas and see the hypocrisy for yourself.

I'm near a Nat Tr. AONB, the farmers have set aside huge areas, planted saplings and wild flowers....this gives great cover for the breeding of birds and deer for their extremely profitable winter shoots. One farmer is actually trapping wild pheasants for his breeding programme, this is illegal, I had to cut the netting off the trap to get the Raven out, he had pecked open the skulls, and eyes of 3 pheasants, poor things were still alive. The Raven was stressed but not injured, he flew away. I did report this to the RSPB but of course they wanted photographic evidence, too lazy to get out there themselves to see.
OK, almost choked on my last mouthful of coffee - cabbages in parliament! LMAO!!!! Just watched your Riverford reference - missed it somehow. They want the sheep off Dartmoor too. NT too much into Chas not a king and his claptrap. It will be interesting to see if the NT will stop the agricultural shows on the land in Tiverton. Most of NT land was willed to them, so that would be hard to reclaim it. To think we took out life membership when we were courting 40 odd years ago. They stopped sending us our cards a few years back - decided we had died! We were in our 40s! A little eager to polish us off - or just thought we were old when we joined. Great use of car parking - we well made on that charge over the years!

The National Trust is a membership organisation. If you are a member you can go along to the AGM and vote, and can also put forward motions. If people feel strongly about this, and there are good points to be made in favour of farming here, you have an avenue to influence the trust.
As ever if enough of us that have membership of the NT get in contact and threaten to withdraw membership due to their stupid policy then they will think twice. They need us and our cash.

We need farmers providing for their own in communities , and not being dictated to by big business , we need wooded areas and wild areas a mixture , and repurpose old dwellings for living , we need choice of living like motor home parks ,caravan parks. Mariners , affordable .

Re-wilding is such a Nonsense - having a place for Nature is commendable and to be encouraged, but letting prime farmland run to rack & ruin should never be allowed - gosh if you turned a fraction of your agricultural land into garden they would throw the book at you & make you tear it up...

I haven’t read all of the comments so forgive me if I am repeating something someone has already said but I have heard that companies and corporations from abroad are paying the National Trust to plant trees on their estates so then the businesses can claim carbon offset against it. Also instead of maintaining the beautiful old farmhouses when tenants leave they are not re-letting them but leaving them empty to become derelict. I therefore have not renewed my National Trust membership since 2020!!!

Many dont know tge difference between NT and NP. The main one is the NT can do what they want with land the own. NPs do the same but with land they dont own.

I am one of the tenants featured in the Farmers Weekly article you featured. We left our farm nearly three years ago having been there for 25 years. To say my wife and son and I are devastated is a massive understatement. Well done for making the public aware of what is going on.

80% of all farmers have taken £350 an acre each year but it's not rewilding as you'd expect. They have to plant the seeds the government recommend, not natural nature taking the land back. Anyone remember Stalin starving 7 million people by centralising farming?

In Cornwall, if the day has the remotest chance of a clear blue sky at dawn, the cloud seeding starts early and by 9am the noughts and crosses board in the sky has stretched out into grey clouds... later the rain clouds follow. Funnily enough those clouds when not pissing down rain on us are keeping the warmth at ground level...surely adding to a warming effect to our climate???

I have recently seen a post with Aldi bacon that's made from some artificial culture... It's definitely started, but we all between us need to make it stop, by not buying that and returning en masse to our local butchers. Those of us who still eat meat, that is.

And I noticed a few years ago they stopped doing Christmas! Apart from selling a few bits! They have also near us dug a deep ditch all the way round a field leaving the mound of soil and planting hedging on the soil! And of course Raptors have been introduced and a farmer friend has said that this is/has decimated the hare population!

I find it strange that food production is being curtailed to make room for re-wilding and yet there appears to be little or no effort by many developers of new housing estates to preserve hedgerows and trees there. Certainly in my area I have seen a huge amount of hedgerows and trees buldozed in the last decade, not because they are in the way of the new houses, but because apparently they are too expensive to maintain. I for one would be happy to pay a small tax to ensure that we can keep our hedgerows when new developments go up. If the developers do bother do re-plant they tend to go for non-native species that do not support our flora and fauna and so just become rat runs.
