  • This week On the Road to Emmaus, our year-long pilgrimage through the Holy Mass, we reach the Invitation to Communion whereupon the priest genuflects, takes the sacred host and, holding it slightly raised above the paten or above the chalice says aloud:
    "Behold the Lamb of God,
behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb."
Then, together with the people he adds once:
    "Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word and my soul shall be healed."
Watch as Bishop Earl Boyea of Lansing explains the significance of this prayer. He also throws out another weekly challenge: read the writings of some of the Church Fathers on the Eucharist. Here is a link to those writings: www.churchfath...

I just read This Is My Body, which completely delves into what the church fathers, doctors, and scholars understood about the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist. I recommend it. At the moment, I don't remember the name of the bishop who wrote it, but his ministry, I believe, is Word on Fire, which published it.

In the passage from the council of nicea, is the reference to deacons, are those ordinary people, unlike deacons who have received the holy orders of tge deaconite? I imagine they are or some other correction has been proclaimed to clarify the meaning of deacons. Is that correct?
