The problem with the challenge is it was added without Ed's design, because he was busy with End is Nigh when Afterbirth + was made. It's less his fault and more Nicalis' fault
I did this challenge a while back but recently I accesed Isaac from a different PC and it loaded my progress from 2 months ago, and just like that I lost 100 or more hours of progress, now I need to redo Mother and Beast on all of the A side characters, fully clear Keeper's, Lost's and Jacob & Esau's notes, unlock all of the B side characters again, complete all the repentance challenges and recomplete Ultra Hard of course, the save was right before I completed this damn thing! (also I lost my progress on B side characters..)
The only way to do this is to restart until you get like ipecac or a fetus item or some good combo that will win you the run attempting otherwise is just a waste of time and effort as soon as i learned this i completed it soon enough
I remember my first time on this challenge took me 3 weeks and in the second file 4 to 5 days and in the third it was just one day, and I hope I never do that again
i swear you can only complete this challenge when you are beggining to unluck stuff, otherwise you will do no damage because of the large amount of trash items that will offer you nothing for the next floors, this challenge is absolute bs
not to mention that the reward is only worthwhile if you're still unlocking things - by the time i did Ultra Hard i already had all completion marks on Samson
There is a mod on the workshop that's called "ultra ultra hard" which changes Isaac to the T-Lost. It doesnt really make the challange but makes it fairer. Thanks to bloated champion health you can often not have enough damage to clear rooms before you're forced to get hit by being pushed into a space from which you cannot escape without flight. With the Lost / T-Lost when you get hit, its usually your fault for misplaying, which just feels better than being bullshitted by the game. I actually suggested a change like this to the challange, but my initial idea was to re-enable heart drops so that items like the soul locket or alabaster box could be utilized, since being the Lost / T-Lost makes it so that you cant profit from heart drops anyway. So I feel like changing the character to Lost / T-Lost would help make the challange an actual barable 'challange' instead of the infuriating mess that it is now.
I feel like the vine boom sound effect for explosions is just close enough to make me question if it’s actually that and that makes me scared for my sanity.
I did it in Afterbirth+ and D4 hard carried me, anytime I got low hitting the button praying for more health and not a shit build. It was certainly an experience
About this (11:00) You haven't unlocked It Lives! yet, so Angel/Devil rooms in Womb II/Womb XL still contain a beam of light/trapdoor instead of items.
For me it was the opposite funny enough. In AB+ I kept getting incredibly bad treasure room items, and just died over and over again. When I did this challenge 2 days ago in Repentence, I was lucky enough to find 2 tinted rocks, fought the bosses and got stapler. Skipped devil room. Next floor opened a red chest, teleported to Angel room and got Redemption (that light beam or whatever the item is called. Fought Angel statue and the rest of the run went pretty smooth sailing. But idk maybe I'm just lucky
I just finished this challenge yesterday. I tried it for days, and finally obtained a good start (Bookworm, Satanic Bible with Book of virtues, Fate and freeze tears with 3 lucky pennies in Cellar). I'm watching how u completed this... Welp, keep going this content, love u

I got Ipecac and Pyromaniac on this challenge, and then I got sacred heart + Eve's mascara on the same run. That was the only way for me to finish ultra hard in A+
This challenge was awful, I remember completing with some good rng, getting tech x and pyromancy, but the hidden mvp was definately mr boom, being able to heal for one heart every 2 rooms was great
11:00 When you don't have It Lives unlocked, which in the case of this challenge it seems like it forces it off, you can't get anything from the Devil Deal in the Mom's Heart fight because it's always guaranteed to be a trapdoor to Sheol. Same deal with Angel Deals, they are always guaranteed to be a light beam to The Cathedral in the Mom's Heart fight.
I feel like a lot of the challenges that were in the game before Repentance came out either became super unbalanced, either being easy to cheese the main gimmick, or starting to be BS level of "hard", once Repentance came in
I agree, solar system was extremely easy in AB+ but in repentance it became way harder! The only way I beat that challenge was with duct tape. After months of trying to complete ultra hard I still haven’t been able to beat it due to the stupid amount of bs the game pulls. Like doing double bloat, or double flail, just stupid bullet hell bosses in general, this challenge was pie in AB+ but now in repentance it’s an absolute nightmare because of all the new bs enemies and new game mechanics!

I just finished floor two with placenta and swallowed penny, post the 2nd floor boss fight, so I took the time to hurt myself via a fire to rack up 99 coins after I bought jar of flies and BFF from the shop. I’m hoping my large-arse flies will be the trick to get me through this challenge, and that I can also rack up a ton of large flies in my jar to fight bosses. I thought I had an awesome start here, but you’re scaring me because I’m playing Repentance! I did 100% the game in Rebirth (never played Afterbirth or Afterbirth+), but I played on the PS Vita and cheesed it by constantly saving my game to the PlayStation cloud and redownloading it if I effed up my game. Haha. Now the Vita is dead with no Binding of Isaac Afterbirth/Repentance available on it, so I’m restarting from scratch on a Nintendo Switch my boyfriend gave me. No cheese/cheating with this! Lol.

I died in this challenge with gnawed leaf and daddy longlegs because I thought I could enter every room and get the effect before enemies reach me, I was wrong, I had only 1/2 HP and found no HP ups so I couldnt learn from my mistake, atleast I almost have unlocked mega mush that should be helpful

I'm so sick of this challenge. I've managed to make it to the last phase of the Satan fight but that's it. Even if I had clutched that fight I still would have very likely died against Mega Satan at the end.
I recommend a mod for ultra hard completion that makes it fair, where u play as tainted lost instead of isaac. its actually much easier to start off w the increased damage but aye dont get hit :o
On my first attempt (on console when the challenge first hit) it legit took me HOURS to complete. Then I bought Repentace for PC and got like GODLY RNG completing it on my 2nd run overall.
I spent 2 days beating this challenge when repentance was released, started a new save. Good lord you need either an invincible combo or just play extremely well with a book of revelation. I did the latter

I shat myself when in AB+ i picked up Dead Cat in the start of Dark Room. Then Judas Shadow came when i explored the Dark Room so i did this final battle with 3 Black hearts and god how good its to see the ------------ in the words Ultra Hard
This one challenge is just a major FU from Ed to us. Ironically however it isn't even the hardest challenge (anymore). That honor goes to Red Redemption imo.
I was lucky to get Ipecac + Dr. Fetus on the first floor after grinding the challenge for days, which gave me bomb immunity and I was able to beat the challenge off that. I don’t think I’ve been happier in my life.
I completed the challange pretty soon (Note that I already had lot of experience in the game but never tried this challange since the unlocking Child's heart with Samson didnt called me), like my 5th try or so, but becouse I found like 4 Full Health pills and saved one for Mega Satan fight.
The fact hearts cannot spawn naturally in this challenge is straight up unfair. You got to start qith something like Book of Revelations so the challenge can be slightly more fair
I wish the Ultra Hard challenge actually took your knowledge of the game and tested you with it. Ultra Hard right now is a complete lazy and short cut way of making a "challenge". This is the least amount of effort I've ever seen in a DLC lol. Like imagine if they actually made unique rooms with enimies that would normally be further ahead in the game. What if instead of everything being a champion some enimies had a secondary attack or something.
Getting book of revelation is a ez health on this challenge, definitely the best item to get
that or satanic bible, id say its a side-grade since even sacrificing 1 heart for devil deal is a big step on ultra hard
For me, Best item is probably Placenta. Free Regeneration if you are patient enough and is found in the Boss room pool

7:15 Little tip with these guys, that spiral attack can't hit you at close range since it is super high of the ground.
Moving back can let it hit you.
Also specific for its double encounter, they can hit you if one sucks the other's attack up

I was lucky to get Ipecac + Dr. Fetus on the first floor after grinding the challenge for days, which gave me bomb immunity and I was able to beat the challenge off that. I don’t think I’ve been happier in my life.

I completed the challange pretty soon (Note that I already had lot of experience in the game but never tried this challange since the unlocking Child's heart with Samson didnt called me), like my 5th try or so, but becouse I found like 4 Full Health pills and saved one for Mega Satan fight.
The fact hearts cannot spawn naturally in this challenge is straight up unfair. You got to start qith something like Book of Revelations so the challenge can be slightly more fair

I wish the Ultra Hard challenge actually took your knowledge of the game and tested you with it. Ultra Hard right now is a complete lazy and short cut way of making a "challenge". This is the least amount of effort I've ever seen in a DLC lol. Like imagine if they actually made unique rooms with enimies that would normally be further ahead in the game. What if instead of everything being a champion some enimies had a secondary attack or something.
