  • In this video, I am discussing the current landscape of football including the recent Euros, the lack of 'world-class' players, VAR, and more
    This is the first video of the 24/25 season, there are plenty more to come! And yes, they will be slightly more positive. Just slightly.

    I really don’t think the individual players are worse. They just don’t stand out as much because tactics are so oppressive. There’s no time and no space anymore. You get a glimpse of how good players really are at the World Cup (sadly not even at the euros anymore). The World Cup final was a good example of how much an mbappe or even an old Messi can shine in a more open game. Some tactical drawbacks like wingers not being allowed to take risks, strikers needing to press and connect the game more at the expense of raw finishing ability and goalkeepers being required to be good with their feet at the expense of actually stopping shots are valid

      @@CarlosRojas-hr6ms I see the point, players like Grealish are almost completely sacrificing their talent, but it it is undeniable that there is a shortage of world class talent compared to any other generation

      OFC the players are worse ffs. They suck with the ball at their feet. We dont have a single guy on the level of R9, zidane, ronaldinho, scholes, xavi, iniesta, pirlo - the list is endless. Meanwhile all these guys were playing at the same time.

    The modern game may have just pushed creative players out of the game. There are hardly any forwards that do anything brilliant in games anymore.
    The tactics are to move the ball quickly , cross it in and try to score. It’s rare to see players beating a man, especially up the middle to create chances. Or forwards that can receive the ball deeper and dribble up the pitch to score. The talent is gone. We only watch cos we’re loyal to football and our clubs.

    Agreed. It's the way manager's tactics have become so rigid and all about systems and in return players are becoming more fearful of anything away from that system and that kills players doing individually brilliant things, like it's no secret the No.10 role that players like Pele, Socrates, Zico, Maradona, Zidane, Platini, Riquelme, Rivaldo, Kaka etc played in is now dead because of managers who don't want players that don't run around like Olympic athletes for 90 minutes, and less creative players just makes the game much more boring.

    I don't think players are worse at all. Generally I think they're just alot more physical so creative players are often pushed off the ball. Iconic creative players of the past wouldn't manage very well in the current era. The quality is still there but fitness level and physicality and height are prioritised over ability. Does it make the sport less enjoyable to watch? Sometimes yes. Are the players worse? No. I agree about referees. Fouls are given too easily

    • @daniel15yearsago66

      Also no offense but Bale absolutely would not win the Balon D'or this year. He doesn't have the tactical acumen whatsoever compared to a player like Rodri in this era of tactical football. I'd argue kane this season was atleast as good as and a more complete player than Bale ever was

    • @daniel15yearsago66
      @daniel15yearsago66 28 днів тому +1

      Also because teams nowadays are so much fitter and tactically adept than many of the teams of the players you were naming, current teams would likely comfortably beat many of those older teams. Football teams are slowly getting better for the most part, whether it looks pretty or not

      @Sobieskicharge the players aren't worse at all. Players just aren't as good on the ball as although it is still important to be good on the ball, it isn't the what football revolves around anymore. Physicality, tactical acumen and most importantly CONSISTECY are just as crucia, unlike previous eras. A player like zidane who was quite inconstent would struggle abit more in today's era. He managed fine 25 years ago because back then it was OK to only be great every 3 or 4 games (which is what zidane was like). Whereas in today's era where a team has to be good in every single game to get 3 points, it is better for a player to perform at a 7 out of 10 every week (e.g bernardo silva) than be a 9.5/10 every 4 games (like zidane). I get it looks ugly that players aren't as good on the ball anymore, but they absolutely are just as good

Also, if Barca do not satisfy what he wants in his career, he will just leave.

    System players running around like blue arsed flies, same overlap formula every game, no creativity, all based on stats, beep tests and speed. All the small technical players who make football fun to watch are turned away.
    Lets not even get started on diving and VAR. Football is truly in the mud.
