Seriously, ironically I just bought a house and went through the same "sacrifice" issue that Rick was going through. Being OCD and a perfectionist can make you really productive but can also keep you from making the compromises necessary to pursue your dreams.

Howie Mandel gave amazing mentor vibes here. Seeing him flip a switch and truly sympathize with Rick brought me to tears. I'm about Rick's age and I'm so far removed from network television that I didn't know anything about the origins of Howie's career. Such a beautiful soul and it's clear he's been working on himself for many years.

  • @biogeniclife

I was a kid when I was introduced to Howie. I believe I first saw him doing his stand-up. But his Bobby character he did which I remember seeing him doing at least the voices before the cartoon came out which I was also young enough to watch. I was always a fan of the voice and even learned to do it myself. I have always been a class clown, I have adhd, ocd, I’m on the spectrum, then on top of that I had a brain injury which made it very hard for me to get proper diagnosis or meds or any therapy. I am turning 44 this month and I have had a very hard life, but the point I want to make is podcasts of comedians actually talking about their life struggle, their issues has probably helped me more than any medicine or any therapy I have ever had. This podcast, is now at the top of all the ones that have helped me. Rick with Howie just was the perfect combo for me. When Rick cried so did I. Howie has so much wisdom and I wish he could give advice more to people who have ocd, adhd, neurodiverse mind. I think Howie rules and is one of my favorite people, and I’ve always liked Rick since I saw him on Tigerbelly and watched his podcast ever since. I love the mix of silly and real authenticity and heart, mixed with odd ball humor, it feels like home to me. I think it also helps that Rick is struggling like how I was struggling in my late 30’s. I just wanted to send a real authentic honest message to both Howie and Rick they may never read this but I want to thank both of you guys for helping me love myself more, trust myself more, and value the things I do that no one else does. Thank you for sharing your stories and being brave and all the hard work you put in to get to the place in your life where you are to be able to share your stories, I want you to know that it matters, you fucking rule, I love you guys so much and I hope I will be able to have success in the things I do, I believe I will, now. Many, many thanks.

I am a great admirer of Rick and his ultimate awareness of everything around him and his ability to segue and swerve in and out of conversations but still hold attention. He is a can't miss podcast guest and I will seek out his appearances on other people's shows. THEN I started watching THIS show. WOW Just the bit with the 'plant' as an example. He took something so innocuous as what Howie said and held that in his attention long enough to ask Howie to move the plant over later all while being present and moments later still he *snaps* it all away(the editing wasn't perfect, but maybe it was on purpose). The creativity in this man's brain is so off the charts I am often in total bewilderment by it.

One of my all time favorite episodes of any podcast I've seen. (and trust me, I've seen them all) Please never give a second thought to have an interview spend it's time in a place of philosophy and heart and trying to find a way to better understand. I can feel how you felt maybe a bit as if you had squandered opportunity by not using all the tools that comes in howie's box of play, but I've also felt your attempt lately at putting lot of conscious consideration into your mind and self and how to unify theories of self and the world and I whole heartedly enjoy how the past several episodes have been (perhaps unintentionally) more introspective. Absolutely my favorite appearance from Howie, in no small part because of its departure from the pod he does with everyone else, and probably my favorite episode of TYSO. 10/10 (P.S. Rick, check out some talks from Alan Watts, I think you might enjoy hearing some of them.)

I had a crazy morning that was soundtracked by this episode. The back half absolutely helped so much. Thanks for talking about survival ❤️

@ 1:37:18 Rick having to snap to “unsnap” Howie’s random unrelated snap cracked me up. That was understated brilliance, man 😂.

omg the consensus of a yt comment section is actually accurate for a change! i am a big tyso and rg fan, but very harsh critic of how rick often indulges himself to detriment. this balance of having a heavyweight/veteran with similar perspective let you SHINE, rick. srsly. you can be neurotypical and always examining while still steeping in new awareness and humility. i see the progress/arc.

MERCH ALERT! "Stay in the boat. Just keep paddling" - Howie, Ricky and a goblin in a boat.... this was so beautiful. I wish more people would have these types of conversations - hype up your friends, be honest and direct. So loving (my eyes are watery!!)

Can we talk about how good Miranda is at reading the ads? She's a born spokeswoman!
