How did he scale the top of the cylinder at around 1:09?? No matter what position my cursor is at, whenever I press s it just makes the cylinder wider

You have to be in edit mode. Tab to. Go. To edit. Mode and select the top vertices.. First press e to extrude then s to scale down. If your doing this. Then the whole cylinder won't scale

That can be done in photoshop.. Any high resolution texture can be created there or in gimp
