What do you do when the battery runs low and the light goes dim? I have a cable for it that goes into the hole at the top but how does it work? Do you plug it in and does it charge? Or do you need to have it plugged in while using it or what?
@@MrPolevaulter I think he meant that your clean tone was not a) really clean but it's okay, b) it was way darker and bassier than most people would have it, especially given you're playing a Strat variation
It is amazing to me that the good people at Equipboard rank this pedal in the distortion pedal category as #6 with 4 stars and 223 of its members use it and it has a score of 95.
Depending on my mood I go from wanting to trade it in, chuck it at the wall or throw it in the trash. Since I had it for 23 years it has survived my Turbo mood,
As always i love your videos. I have the Boss DS-2. I had it for like 25 years or more. Hardly used it. I was going to sell it during the Covid lockdown. Decided to keep it after seeing this and other videos and put it on my secondary pedalboard that I use with my instrument with single coil and rails pickups..
I would like to see you review a pedal that WAS your cup of tea! I know the focus is on gear here but man that is some nice technique that you have acquired there mate! I just bought the same pedal so it's nice to see that a guitarist such as yourself rates it. Cheers.
Enjoyed the demo here. The DS-2 sounds a bit dark at times (which can be a good thing, especially when one is trying to tame the excess treble one can get from single coils), but that may be just a first impression. Thanks for posting this. PS you're quite an impressive player.
Honestly, I think you got the better tones out of the Strat pick ups. And the way you actually have it set up as how the DS-1 and the like were originally intended. To add gain and distortion for low output pick ups plugged it into something like a Marshall half stack. I think the most usable towns out of the DS range of pedals come from where you leave it on all the time and play around with the guitar volume for the clean tones.
I agree, not my cup of tea either. But it is very useable. If this was the only pedal available to me at the moment I could gig with it, but it wouldn't be my first choice. People will laugh, but at the moment I'm using a Modtone Speedbox XXL distortion. Easy to dial in and I can get a great crunchy overdriven sound with the gain turned down.
This pedal put through my old Fender Blues Deluxe was the bee's knees...I have since gotten rid of that amp, and have been having a hell of a time dialing in a good sound with this damn thing. Lately, I have just been using it as a glorified boost pedal.
I watched the PGS review of the CE-5, and andy use the CE-5 with a Boss DS-2. What a good combination! I don't know if your CE-2 works too good with a DS-2 on his side...
Hi Elmo.....love your enthusiasm for a pedal thats not making me jump about.....it needs a soldering iron on all of its contact points. or maybe the very gentle sledgehammer treatment. great shreading bro....👍
According to your finnish compatriot Seppo Taatila, this pedal was used with Marshall amps to record their debut album "Slumber of sullen eyes" by Demigod. Pretty interesting clean sound and production, being a death metal album of the early 90's; Not the usual buzz-saw Scandinavian sound produced by the Boss Hm2.
I've seen this video only now but ds2 is my favorite distortion almost fuzz pedal, good also as standlone preamp i to effect loop. A bettter and fuller ds1. I don't like too much turbo mode but is useable.
Seems like Turbo mode doesn't add gain but has more mids and is better for soloing while the standard mode is more scooped and better for rhythm (supposedly the same as the DS-1). But in standard mode it sounds more "refined" than the DS-1, not so scratchy on the top and less in-your-face, as I can hear through the UA-cam compression because I have a DS-1 but haven't played through a DS-2. You have tried both so you know better (...and you didn't like DS-1 but you like this)!
How do you rate between this against revv G3? G3 is pricey so i want to make sure the extra i m paying is well worth it. Like which one is good for soloing and scream pinch harmonics loud? Thank you Elmo
Elmo, it's Dave from the states, nice video...you get a nice sound from that boss turbo distortion, the turbo overdrive by host is also nice..,...would you recommend the Marshall Origin 50watt Head Ver. I WANT the Marshall tone, but I cannot afford to spend $2000plus on the 50watt plexi...Your honesty is always appreciated...
I still haven't tried the 50 watt version. I did a review of the 20 watt, plus a comparison of that and the Plexi. You can find that here (not sure if you've seen it): ua-cam.com/video/zimiq24XgEw/v-deo.html Personally I think you do get what you pay for, but the Origin is a good budget choice. The 50 watt should be loud enough as well (which the 20 wasn't). You can also find second hand Plexis on eBay for less than $2000. The Origin is a decent amp, but when you put it up against the real thing, it does fall a bit short. But again, considering budget, it is quite good.
So what should I do on my DS2 to get metalcore sounds, and actually I'm using Yngwei Malmsteen custom guitar and I just realized that you've made a lot of videos that related to him so yeah😂
@Jew Adolf Yes. I didn't like it for my amp and guitars that much. Although I use it with my Bass and with the new Duncans SB3 it sounds pretty damn good.
I loved the tone of this pedal going through my old Blues Deluxe, but I have since "retired" that amp and am now using a Blackstar mk2 combo. I can't seem to dial in a decent tone with this pedal going into my new amp. It sounds great being used as simple boost, with the distortion nearly at 0, but I haven't had any luck with even a small amount of dirt. It just starts to sound boxy and thin when I add more distortion.
