Annette Hachey I use glue in some places, but not when I’m sewing an inner point. I think it hurts more than it helps, but others may have different results.

I hope your works are deeply valued by those honored to receive them. I’m feeling a bit amateur in my skill level. Thank you for sharing this precise work of art. The concise instructions make me think, “I can”, realistically well, maybe.
Always remember that you are just sewing together two pieces of fabric by hand. Yes, it's nice if you do it perfectly but if you don't, your quilt will still be lovely in the eyes of whoever ends up owning it. My mom's last quilt is quirky and imperfect and maybe the funnest quilt ever!

I've loved your appliqué since I started quilting about 20 years ago. I have done your stars in the garden quilt. I could never have imagined, but You have gotten even better. Dear Becky, I totally agree with your treatment of inner points. Twice the feedback on my work from judges has criticized this method, but I believe the true applique artist wanted it to last. Applique artists want to be able to wash and use the quilt I believe. This is also how the true Hawaiian quilters did their innter points. Thank you for this video. L

Thank you so much for posting this video. I never could wrap my head around how to secure the inner points. I was clipping the fabric but I was still trying to have invisible stitches. No wonder it wasn't working. This is another reason to have thread that matches the fabric. Thanks again .

Thank you for your video. I’ve appliqué for years and never had a consistent technique for points and valleys. Also thank you for mentioning that you can’t always stitch in the grain. Probably less than 10% of stitching goes that way!

your videos are wonderful, and have resulted in my purchase of your video and the applique sampler book. It is helpful for me to have a nice preview of the quality of instruction, thus making it more likely I will purchase instructional products.
How about that-I didn't know that that's how the Hawaiians do inner points! And, yes, this is the only way that makes sense to me. BTW... I've never had a judge say anything about my inner points except that they look great. Judging is interesting... I appreciate helpful comments but beyond that I do what I do and don't worry about what judges might say. Thanks for commenting!
Thank you so very very much for this video. I am working on hearts with a deep inner point. I have 14 to do...so by #14 I should be much better (I am numbering them). I think my point might be too deep because when I clip it I have 1/2 of a quarter inch seam allowance. After I clip it looks just like yours(clipped) though. I keep ending up doing a satin stitch trying to catch the frays....for about the same distance that you take the shorter stitches that are longer(into the applique piece) I have learned one thing for sure...the less I mess with the clipped point the better off I am. I have to go get some cocktail toothpicks ASAP. I have to tell you that my stitches are invisible and I have learned everything I know about applique from you on this channel.
I had to remove my first four appliques...I learned so much doing that. Those applique stitches are stronger than any machine stitch I know. The inner point on the heart was never ever going to fray. Thanks again.

I use a General's Charcoal Pencil in white for medium to dark fabrics. My new favorite pencil for light fabrics is a Blackwing 602 pencil sharpened to a fine point with the 2-step sharpener. Use a light hand with the darker pencil and you can still see the mark. Both can be found at pieceocake.com.
Hi! Your video is wonderfull! But I still have some questions: a) How large are the stitchs? b) What kind of needle (also the number) do you use to this work? c) What kind of thread do you use for the appliqué? Thank you!
Hi Erica: I usually use a #12 sharp but the needle you feel comfortable with might be different. My stitches are usually bigger than 1/16" and less than 1/8". You can see more on the actual stitch in a different video, ua-cam.com/video/PbbqaqCs7lM/v-deo.html. I hope this helps!
Be sure to finger press before you pin your applique to the block. That is really important. And use a round wooden toothpick to turn the edges under if the needle is not working.

I'm currently stitching Fleur de Lei block by Lynn Harris from the Splendid Sampler 1 book. It's like a snowflake pattern!!!! Yikes. My goal is to make each block from this book, Thanks for your response and help. Looking for my toothpicks but may use a wooden skewer if i can't find the picks. XO

Do you use straw needles?
I used to but don't any more. I like a Sharp needle, either the #11 Applique Sharp made by Tulip or the #12 Black Gold made by Clover.
