Robby Gordon has already become a popular sight down here. He's the showman everyone waits for at the start. Seeing that orange dot followed by a dust line coming down the desert, everybody knows that's the man and people start cheering! It really takes a badass to win the Dakar, and although talent is a must, luck plays a big part. I'm a total fan and l hope he doesnt get discouraged with the years.
Robby and his team are so professional and devoted. I love it! Robby is freaking fearless and seems like a really good guy. I wish Robby and the entire team the best of luck and at least a podium finish! Go ROBBY GO from Canada!!!!!

The first thing people need to realise about Dakar is its not all about 'winning' but actually 'finishing', AND being there at the 'end' after enduring those gruelling days & nights.

Una de las críticas que hice sobre el "Gordini" fue su poco desarrollo antes del Dakar 2014, le faltó más horas de desarrollo por lo que acusó su bajo desempeño en esta prueba pero ahora por lo visto estoy convencido de que ahora estará para dar la lucha y romper el monopolio de los europeos en el podium, suerte para este Dakar 2015 y saludos desde Arica-Chile.

Maybe I see things too simple but, considering Robby Gordon's experience, I would have changed the conception of the Gordini quite a lot
*WHAT ROBBY HAS*
· Trophy truck experience
· NASCAR experience
· Indycar experience
· The whole SST organization
· Access to quite a lot of information and money
From that starting point, which is quite good, I would try to really use all that to his favor. Also, the fact you can access to a lot of information nowadays makes it easier to find what you should try to "copy" or adapt easily if you have the resources. Next step then:
*WHAT ROBBY NEEDS*
· A good balance between power and fuel consumption (bigger fuel tank, bigger ballast)
· Reliability
· Easy-to-repair
· Inside comfort
The first two points are kinda related in a way. Since the objective is to build a car that is a bit like a trophy truck but narrower and shorter you must use a smaller engine. Considering the current Dakar Rally regulations, you do not need great power so a 7000cc or 8000cc engine is out of the question. If it was me I would go for 6000cc (more or less) and around 500hp when in race trim (that will also help lowering the engine temperature). Next is the need for an easy-to-repair car, it is widely known that the easiest world-class racing car to repair is possibly the Audi R8 LMP, the multi-time winner of the Le Mans 24 hours. That car is in a few museums (at least one in the USA) and you can find lots and lots of information about it in books and the internet. Finally, nothing is more comfortable offroad than a pre-runner and Robby owns a couple of them.
*HOW TO DO IT*
Prepare yourself early (start before April), try to fit the pieces and prepare the easy-to-repair stuff A LOT since you do not want your crew to work non-stop all 13 nights plus the rest day. Mechanics turn wrenches, they are not night owls or athletes and they will not stand 2 weeks like that. Also, you cannot be fully rested when you are supposed to rest or even sleep inside a 22000lb truck
*FINAL POINT*
I know it is not easy, I know I might be seeing things a bit too simple but I truly think Robby Gordon can do it if he commits seriously. No more being a show-off or just making people cheer for you. That can bring some money but the trophies and the BIG money are behind the results. I really think Robby can do it but I am starting to feel that if he does not fully commit before 2017 his time might be over (at least as a driver!)... :-/
Robby Gordon has 10 years of Rally Dakar experience, plus plenty of offroad AND circuit racing experience.
I think he needs a 4wd with Independent Rear Suspension like what has won the Dakar for the last 20 years or so. Driving on rally roads with a live axle sux as much as driving in dunes with 2wd (excepting buggys with special sand tyres).
Ric James There's a problem with that. 4WD in the *Dakar Rally* means only 12 inches of suspension and your engine has to come from a roadlegal car
With 2WD you have unlimited suspension and your engine can be a full-blown prototype if you want to (remember you also have to cover at least 500 miles on each tank of fuel, whether it is on sand, dirt or road)

It was never a Hummer to begin with. The rules in the Dakar say that if the car looks like something that is being mass-produced, you have to put the engine of the same automotive group
· Looking like a Hummer means you can use a Chevrolet engine
· Looking like a MINI means you can use a BMW engine (the Mini All4's engine is a BMW 3500cc diesel one!)
· Looking like a SEAT means you could use an engine from Volkswagen, Audi or even Lamborghini!
· Looking like a FIAT means you could use the engine of a freaking Ferrari!
· Looking like a Dacia means you could use the engine of a Renault and maybe even the engine of a Nissan (remember the Renault-Nissan agreement)
The problem with powerful engines in the Dakar Rally is the lack of refueling. Only motorbikes and quads have officla refueling points every 150 miles more or less. Cars and trucks have to make each day of racing in one tank (although some teams have sometimes located local gas stations and have fueled their racing vehicles with pump gas or diesel!) so the teams have special fuel tanks of 60-120 gallons for cars and way over that for trucks
That damn Hummer wasn't very good luck to him. I hope this time he gets closer and not have as much technical difficulties as in the past.

With this technology and the huge support truck would Robby Gordon be able to win Dakar 2015 ? Sometimes it is not what you have but what you do with what you have whatever humble it is. This reminds me that Argentina with much less military technology almost defeated the British military in the Malvinas war (Falklands) Argentina would have won if NATO with the UK and France veto to export Exocet missiles. The argentinian pilots with limited missiles were 2 weeks away from winning. NATO embargoed Argentina from buying further French made Exocets. The Gordini better deliver the goods and services.
Why do they call it Dakar when it is in South America and doesn;t even go to Dakar Africa anymore. Stupid. The only real Dakar Race is Africa. Rename it something else. Lame.

all I see is chaos.. if your car is in a million pieces and you haven't even figured out something as basic as how to seal the car two months before it's packed up you're losing even before you start.. the competitors are it testing and getting everything sorted while you're still welding and figuring thing out. No wonder he can't win.
