Consistently rode and raced fully rigid throughout the 90's with great success. All of us had long stems and crank arms. The trick is to think ahead and lift off the saddle over bumps. Listening to your brakes squealing all the time leads me to believe that your pads are glazed over. Some riders used Hite-Rite seat post droppers but most did not. We even took our full on road bikes off road at times! It is all about attitude.

@@notsoupmoto it’s pretty much a nod to the original mountain bikes! Which were then called all terrain bikes. So basically just stripping away all the modern mountain bike stuff like suspension, flat bars, slack geo, etc. We still love modern mountain bikes, ATB is just one of my fav types of riding lately.
@ very cool! On the dirt bike side of things, I’ve recently been more drawn to the more stripped down trail bikes as opposed to the more high powered race bikes with all the bells and whistles. I’ve found that riding the simpler bike has been way more enjoyable and actually makes me want to get out and ride more often. As you mentioned about modern mtb, I still love the race bikes but there’s just an unexpected draw to the simpler and more chill stuff recently. Food for thought 💭

I started mountain bike riding on a rigid bike and really enjoyed myself. Now that I have a more modern mountain bike with front suspension and a dropper post, I still enjoy myself! :D No matter the bike, just get out and ride.
Beautiful build. Being an old fart I have to chuckle as younger riders discover fully rigid riding. This bike is way better suited than my '81 stumpjumper was. I still ride rigid every now and again....its fun and good skill training

This is super enjoyable to watch, have just started riding some trails on my 90's rigid in Wellington, NZ. Get a few funny looks from the elite MTB guys but its suuper fun!
I also have a GM, with Ritchey Kyote bars on it. I just can’t get use to drop bars and I’ve been mtbing since 1997, so it does bring back that early feeling of the sport. The dropper was the first thing I added. Thanks for the video, it’s a pleasant escape for lunchtime at work.
Love the new bars. I was very close to getting those on my Riv Susie are seeing's them on Will from Riv's Susie.They're still on the 'want to buy' list.

I have a Rosé in front and a Cava in the back. JFF casing. Mostly ridden on country roads. I can feel every rock I ride over, which is a plus. No issues w flats yet, ran tubeless. I should probably have a Rosé in the rear too, but the Cava does surprisingly well. Big fan of the tires! Cheers!

I built up a Surly Bridge Club for this exact purpose. Not everyone is doing Red Bull Rampage,majority of us don’t need all that stuff 😂 keep it simple, keep riding.
I ride my crust scapegoat on this stuff all the time. No problems except for the steep rooted downhills. Just stay light on the bars and light on the pedals and youll fly
I don’t know if you’ve seen some of my other videos but I’ve mentioned a few times that the crust scapegoat is one of my dream bikes! I’ve been considering swapping this bike for one because I like that it’s a bit longer but still has plenty of room in the main triangle. How do you like yours?
@bike.breath fuckin love it. Running 27.5x2.8 rangers on it. Runs over everything. Great for bikepacking rough stuff and getting rowdy on the trails. Highly recommended. Frame and fork clearance make rack mounting a little trickier but once you dial that in, it'll go anywhere

I have a pretty nice steel hardtail (Nordest Sardinha); I've build it with a sid 120mm fork; an tried with the matching rigid steel fork afterwards; the sid is back in place, and the rigid fork is for sale... my neck hurt very bad every little drop I made (vittoria mezcal 29x2,35 btw) Besides, every time I hit a rock going uphill, the front of the bike would bounce, and it was really difficult to steer.
Ah yeah, that makes sense! I find I have to ride differently. I had a Commencal hardtail as well for a while and it was way more forgiving than this setup.
First one is “Brazillian” ( I think it’s 67?) in Chelsea. Second one is I think the lower 66?. The last one is just a little cut through the beginning of the park in Gatineau (I think it’s called the prison trails). Thanks for tuning in!
I’ve ridden this trail a fair bit and know the big rocks and roots are for the most part. On this ride I was pedal striking (hitting my pedals on those features) more than usual. But also I out these cranks on not too long ago and can feel a difference in my leg extension, and I have bad knees haha.
I don’t know, 650x55 is kind of my sweet spot for not feeling like an absolute slug on the hard packed stuff & roads. But also a bit forgiving on the trails.

@@MetroidX88 you’re a great hype man! Thanks for being here! :) This set of tires has the endurance casing. I’ve ridden them for two full seasons and put them through a lot, zero issues so far! I tried lightweight casing on a set of Barlow passes a little while back and also had no issues but I wasn’t as rough as I am with these.
"ATB"? Looks like early '90s MTBs with handlebars that have a few more bends in them. We rode them on MTB trails. Now I just semi-lock out my MTB suspension when I want to ride on roads.
I think ATB is used as mtn bikes are so different than they were last century and would be confusing to use today. This is essentially an 80s mtn bike with some newer features.

They’re lovely! 30 degrees of sweep is about as far as I like to go for a bike that goes off roading. But they’re still great in the city.

Have you thought about trying out the Ultra Dynamico Mars and Rose JFF tires in the 2.2 size, those look real fun.
I think that’s the next tire I want to try! I’ve tried their cava races before and they were great.
