Baking is chemistry! It takes practice and it’s good to start with a simple basic recipe. Get your technique down and then you can be creative. So fun, cooking in the garden!
Whole wheat flour takes a while to absorb the liquid. Assuming you used a recipe for whole wheat, if it feels too wet let it sit for a while. About 30 minutes.
😂 I’m enjoying my morning coffee listening to the trash talk 😂😂 Thanks for evolving into the food network guys ! Loved the baking video 😊 Much ❤ from Perth, Western Australia 🇦🇺
The perfect company for me tonight as I’m baking stuffing herb loaves for tomorrow. I think Jacques probably won, but the nice thing about baking is even the ‘mistakes’ are delicious.
I'm dead!! 🤣🤣🤣 Kevin "whisking" with a spatula! 🤣🤣🤣 There's a correct tool for every job. Even in the kitchen. I'm currently teaching that to my carpenter husband who wants to learn to cook and bake. You don't use a hammer to cut or a saw to pound nails. Pro tip on mills - stone grinding is best as it maintains more of the nutrients. Look into your investment before purchasing!
@epichomesteading Nice. I think I may have seen it on another episode. I'm preparing for the worst (while hoping for the best) so I have a manual mill with an attachment for a drill. Just waiting for spring to harvest my winter wheat. Loved seeing you guys with Keene garlic! I live 2 hours south of them so it was cool to see you with a product from close to me!
@@Wi2263 I live in Wisconsin too! The garlic they got came from Keene which is in Madison. So local for us. It'll depend on what you're growing and when you'd transplant to outside - which as you know can vary greatly in Wisconsin. There are also things that you have to direct sow into a bed or the ground. I bought books and use Google to create a plan from that information.
Jacgues won. His rolls are the large kind of rolls my dad and brother would have liked. The Bridge Club members would probably like rolls that are a bit daintier; so, Kevin won. You are both winners in my book.
I love you too are baking and cooking just gardening. It’s such a good time to watch. I think you should blend the two recipes together and make your own epic rolls ❤❤❤❤ happy Thanksgiving to you and the crew
It's not hard but I find the waiting process for it to rise very annoying. I like to cook fast meals so this is why i rarely ever make bread. I do, however, enjoy making biscuits.
For me, I could never bake correctly until I stopped using measuring utensils and just eyeballed the measurements. Now everything I bake comes out perfect. Just like our Uncle Rodger says, "you have to use fewwing" 😂😂😂
If this was British bake off, Jacque wins because his was the shape and texture of a roll. Lesson here is Jacque needs to increase flavor and Kevin needs to figure out what went wrong in his bake that his did not turn into the shape and texture of a roll....baking is hard. It's wayyyy harder than cooking. ❤😊
Lol! Thanks! I'm not a baker, I've just watched a ton of the Great Canadian Baking Show. And also, this was an awesome, fun video and please make it a segment!! Haha, I should have said that at the beginning!
Tangzhong method needs a longer proving time. Especially since it's an enriched dough (you added egg, butter/sour cream) with whole wheat. I always use the Tangzhong method to make bread because it gives such a fluffier texture like a true potato roll does. I think Kevin just underproved his dough the first time. Also, active dry yeast is the way to go.
Your in SD too so Kevin have you tried growing hibiscus sabdariffa? Mine aren't doing well rn and i think its because the pots I moved them into have poor drainage.
@epichomesteading a truly good and humble person and friend you are. Hopefully, I'll be able to grow my own rolls and popcorn one day like you. I'm currently not that good at growing much except flowers, peppers (hot and sweet), catnip, cat grass, lettuce, okra, and lima beans
@@epichomesteading Is that you Jacques answering Kevin's comments? LOL. I never saw that technique before with regular dough though Kevin. Interesting. Just need to work on it.
Still watching, but you should ALWAYS bloom your yeast because you never know if it is still good. I never trust my yeast because I would rather know it is active at the start then after the first rise and nothing happened.
Ok I’m confused af!!! What is a roll in the US? When I think fresh bread roll ( Aussie) you gotta go with the deli sliced ham, and fresh garden salad stuff inside , maybe a shmear of mayo …. Is this one of those times like “biscuit” where I think cookie but yall mean scone? Why you talking about jam 😅
If you have a machine to knead the dough you should keep the water/milk waiting instead of adding more flour. Adding flour subtracts from the flavor while saving on moisture does nothing about the flavor
Who won in your heart?
This time ig Kevin 😅
Eric 💪
@@epichomesteading Tie. 🪢 Great job, Epic Garden Bakers. 👨🏼🍳👨🏼🍳😄
Kevin wins only bc u cant put jam in a garlic roll.
Eric for sure
The intro laugh always gets me 🤣🤣🤣
“Oh shoot, they are bigger balls” 😂🤣 Jacque wins for being most adorable.
Yes more cooking please...
Not the disrespectful tiny knife 😂

Totally agree, baking is science!
“You’re at six.” 😂😂😂😂. Jacques reaction had me rolling!
Yes! 🤣
Do more of this. It’s very entertaining! And technically the challenge was to make the better roll not the better flavor profile, so Jac wins.

Up next on Jacques in the garden: foil bread 🍞
The hand edit coming out and punching Jacques is epic 🤛🏽
You guys should just collaborate on the next batch of rolls, and they will be perfect! Best of both worlds!
Definitely!! ❤
I think you both win! I LOVE watching you two together! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!
Two winners, Jacques for best roll and Kevin for best tasting. I'm a winner too, great episode! cheers from Australia!
Jacques has to be the winner cuz he made actual rolls!
True...
Super fun. Happy Thanksgiving, guys. ❤
The perfect company for me tonight as I’m baking stuffing herb loaves for tomorrow.
I think Jacques probably won, but the nice thing about baking is even the ‘mistakes’ are delicious.
The sheer amount of trash talk in this one. 😆
Give Jacques the fake eggs!!! 🤣
Then he won't break them lol

We have a stone-ground from Nutrimill as well!

Jacques all the way-I can just hear Paul Hollywood!!
Keep the cooking together always!!! Jacques, I need your focaccia recipe.
Yayyy for more cooking vids!!

I like these videos better than how to plant something that's been done over and over again and been done over and over again by every other
I think Jacques successfully made a good roll but Kevin made a whole new creation 😮You are both stars to me!!🤩
In my heart you both win because you are both eating yummy bread!
When your avocado trees finally produce fruit you should see who makes the best guacamole on Super Bowl Sunday
Oh man... you guys slay me. You also inspire to me to create, so there's that! Nicely done, both of you.
Eric definitely won the backyard bake off.
Please please pleeeease make this a series!!!
Fist scared the living crap outta me 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yankees... How have you never had sweet rolls?

Its a Roll Competition, only one person made rolls. Clear Winner 😎
Next vid: Gordon Ramsay collaborates with Kevin 😂
it's a tie! We need a third judge next time
Love this video lol :) I think Jacques just pulled ahead
I think Prue and Paul would have gone with Jacques for baking to the brief (actual rolls). Fun video :)
Love the intro and the nod to GBBS!!
I love these videos. More of these please!
Jacque's is the bread winner!
jacques wins better roll since he was an actual roll ;) . that was a fun video. hope there are more bake offs in the future.
Ive missed you guys! You make me laugh. You both win, imo.
Love these videos! Great team!
Kev has the whole kitchen sink on his counter. Jacques has a quarter.
World's biggest goofball gardeners now in a baking segment? Count me in 😂
love the format, it was so much fun!
I would have used the soft winter wheat for a dinner roll. Rolls should have a soft, squishy texture.
Love it...more farm to table and why not use the rain water..😊
Please continue this forever!!!❤
Damn Kevin bustin out the tangzhong.
Yeah, this is why I don’t bake 😂
You're both winners in my eyes ❤
Happy Thanksgiving y'all!
You both win! Always a smile on my face when I watch your videos.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Back at you!
Ya'll should make Sam's Parker Rolls... talking next level!
I think Jacques won because it looks like they actually rise better and Kevin seem more dense
Preceded only by Backyard Bubblegum Kush Baked Off 😂

Jacques won by technicality, Kevin your roll was disqualified for being a nice piece of bread.

jacque won because it looks and tastes more like a roll
How do you not have chives Kev? plant once, you have chives for life
LOL tell me about it

Sugar fairy. O-o wish I had one. I think Jacques but Kevin maybe this time. Just guessing.😅
