    Spot on again. It also makes me wonder about the second hand market. Managing those type of vessels equipment, and add a refit. Someone has gotten a great vessel with Lyra Noa. Will look forward to seeing you on the water again.

      Have a few things invthe pipeline just waiting confirmation and may just join Lyra for a sail in the Pacific..

    Great video Trevor and thanks for sharing. I do have to disagree with you on the electric furler on the code 0, we’ve sailed with it and it’s so nice…when it works, but there’s no manual back up to furl if something goes wrong. That’s the opposite of keeping it simple. We know of 3 boats with the integrated bowsprit furler that have already failed. So we are the rare buyers who went out and experienced both set ups off shore and decided against the extra technology of the electric furler.
    What we did go with is upsizing the mast head winch to a size 60 three speed to be able furl with pace as that’s a safety item we thought to be important. We’ve been very fortunate to have learned a ton about these boats with winds up to 58kts and seas of 5 meters. The sea is definitely a humbling place to venture out into!

      You can set up the code that there is enough space for a manual continuous line furler if electric fails...just need enough head room on code.. Problem solved..

      @@oceanadventures365 Yes sir, you could do that, or you could simply add a remote switch to the cockpit of the mast head winch and save yourself $20,000. That's simple.

      Idea is to have no mast head winch all halyards to the helm.. As in Lyra. Saves a winch and another set of hands..

    • @kirkb3473
      @kirkb3473 7 місяців тому

      Gotcha, having a few crossings under my belt now I just feel the set up is pretty simple on the 526 already, and have 3 more halyards lines (Stay/Code/Spinnaker) running to the helm adds a bit of complexity when there’s already a lot of lines lead there. I’m not quite seeing the benefit of other than elimination of a winch. Someone has to go forward regardless when you raising or lowering as sail. 3 of these have failed already, nobody has cut their sails or rigged their set up with a manual backup, but I agree if you do go this route you absolutely should. I always like learning though and appreciate your insights!

      @@kirkb3473 yeah the 526 doesnt have the space at helm for more ropes due to the dual sheet setup on the boom.. I liked the extended coach roof and boom track on Lyra but thats a whole re design..
      Personally think the versa helm is a bit of a gimmick and having dual controls right next to each other is a waste.. There are multiple auto pilot interfaces for B+G on mfds and the helm position down below is barely used and shouldnt be unless mid ocean...
      All said the Balance Catamarans are of the most sailable vessels out their regardless of my preferences... 👌

    Yes Trevor Lyra is a super cat, was watching an ORC57 with emergency release buttons at all the stations mad. Don’t know if you are aware this year on the round the island race in the UK a Gunboat capsized apparently they pushed the emergency release button but it failed. Definitely KISS 👍

    Awesome vessel KISS the best way I learnt to sail in Port Elizabeth om a 33 foot steel gaff rig cutter no winches, manilla ropes,, wooden blocks and 5 liter wooden keg of Old Brown Sherry fitted Port and Starboard on the inside of the companion way easily in reach from the cockpit green pvc foul weather gear and white gumboots and the vessel owner only sailed if it was blowing 25 knots or more

    just curious, drop sail and turn on motors? Doesn't sound like it sails easy single handed? Cool that it can carry payload. Thanks for the video

    • @oceanadventures365
      @oceanadventures365  7 місяців тому

      Downwind code and assym Spinnaker plus Staysal.. Thats it.

    • @oceanadventures365
      @oceanadventures365  7 місяців тому

      If have electric reef able jib you hardly use a staysal. Just for those days.. and for ability to goose wing downwind with jib..
      Really you could get away without a spinnaker too if have a good code 0 but they super nice in light conditions..

    That Vagabond tri looks like a massive handful for 2 with 2 young kids. I also don't like the helm position on it, very exposed. I think the choice was made out of keeping the youtube gravy train rolling, they'd done so many cat vids I think they were running out of ideas for content. I also think the majority of their viewers aren't into sailing, just the lifestyle of 2 young attractive kids. I'm not a sub or viewer of theirs but I gotta admit to watching that shakedown vid of that tri, oh man look at that if you haven't seen it
