Welcome this morning to St Michael’s and our service of Holy Communion, on this the Eighteenth Sunday after Trinity and the celebration of St Michael and All Angels
The choir will sing the setting of Holy Communion
by Sir Charles Villiers Stanford (1852 - 1924)
Organ Prelude: Adagio in F - Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827)
We begin with hymn 192, ‘Praise, my soul, the King of heaven’
    We pray for Children’s Church
And then on page 294 we say together the Collect for Purity
We say the Responses to the Summary of the Law
The choir then sings the Kyrie Eleison (Lord have mercy)
The Collect and Readings can be found on pages 283 - 284
We stand for the Gospel, and the said Acclamations are Glory be to thee O Lord and Praise be to thee, O Christ at the end
We stand to say the Creed on page 48
    We sit for the sermon
We sing the hymn 163, ‘Angel-voices ever singing’
Our prayer of intercession is on page 301
We then move to the invitation to Confession on page 308
We say the responses at the start of the Eucharistic Prayer
The choir sings the Sanctus (Holy, Holy, Holy)
During Communion the choir sings the Motet by William Byrd (1543-1623):
Justorum animae in manu Dei sunt, et non tanget illos tormentum mortis. Visi sunt oculis insipientem mori: Illi autem sunt in pace.
The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God,
and no torment shall touch them.
In the sight of the unwise they seemed to die:
    But they are in peace.
After Communion we say the Lord’s Prayer on page 315
We stand while the choir sings the Gloria and stay standing for
    the Blessing
And we sing our final hymn 203, ‘O praise ye the Lord! Praise him in the height.’
Organ Voluntary: Gloria in excelsis, Op.59 No.8 - Max Reger (1873-1916).
