So....you play Cuthroat Caverns...to play out the adventurers quest......and then you play red dragon inn as the part after they get back from the adventure and boast too each other....and then you play Dragon and Flagon after someone wins and the adventuring party gets in a massive fight. To truely maintain theme you try to ensure players play the same general type of character through all 3 games. Not hard. :0
I understand that they likely wanted to go for a cartoony style with the art to keep the tone light and fun, but I would have preferred a style more like Jim Holloway's style. He always did the zany art for D&D books back in the day and I think his style would have worked perfectly. He did more serious fantasy art, as well, but his comical art would fit so well. Google his art to see what I mean. I wonder if a second edition of this could alter the art... optimally with Jim Holloway's touch added to it. heh ;-) I can dream, can't I?
I actually own Swashbuckler. I never played it as it was a game I bought back when I was just buying games I heard good things about. But I always liked the theme and though that someoen should remake it with more modern rules. I guess Stronghold games had the same idea.
I have played Colt Express and can understand the comparison, but I think it's more like High Noon Saloon. An old west bar fight, but with shooting as well.
This seems even more random than Colt Express... I guess it needs to be played at a high player count since then there's a good chance of your actions actually having some effect.
This reminds me of a skirmish scenario set in Mordheim of a bar brawl that I absolutely loved. if someone can condense that experience into a board game with some great minis and artwork, I'm in. Not sure I'm feeling the minis, or artwork..
Does anyone else cringe each time you see these videos and how hard he is on the cards and such? It hurts the soul when I see them all drop during the intros. The board flip didn't help here either.
i don't much care for the way he mistreats his games, very ignorant attitude. i bet if he had to buy them with hard earned cash he would treat them differently.
Came here to see this game get completely destroyed. But apparently you quite like it... Weird. We set up this game and tried to play, but we didn't even finish one round before we decided to pack it back up and put it away. The game really sucks, so very bad...
He's much gentler with that hammer when the game goes into his collection.
"I don't understand why this fights starts"
Beer, a lot.
Exactly lol
The character profile art is pretty terrible but other than that this looks pretty fun.

If you add real drinking during Red Dragon Inn, Dragon and Flagons will be very very real.
Artwork reminds me of the Foglio's work. back in 85'ish.. loved their stuff in the myth books by robert asprin
Seriousy Tom, you like that card artwork??
Well, I think he has to. The designers and publishers are his friends.
+Steven Tan 🙄 give it up
I can only imagine it with Ryan Laukat art on the cards.....mmmmmm
:(
The portrait artwork is a bit unfortunate, but otherwise I'm excited by it.
Looks and sounds really cool. One of those games "to have fun" while drinking and chatting.

***** Yes! It worked perfectly for Paranoia's wackiness, as well! Excellent point! :-)
This is the coolest theme!! Can't wait to get it

awesome good review and walk through.. i bought it. based on your vid.
This reminds me of an old insert game from the old Dragon magazine Food Fight!
I'm so old I remember Swashbuckler advertised in White Dwarf magazine :P with small B&W ads on the pages. Or did I dream it ?
No, I played it, it was put out by Yaquinto? Games as one of their album game line.
This sounds enjoyable and chaotic. May have to pick it up.
That is some darn horrifying artwork!
@TheDiceTower one of the tables has on the underside Buonaerore 1 Vasel 0
How this game (card playing mechanic) compares to Colt Express?
Any chance of an app version?

this looks like the next game to get when you need something a little more advanced then colt express

If I get this I'm totally getting some minis from other games to use for this,... won't be hard they they are typical archetypes.
this looks great!
Sounds like INN FIGHTING without the awesome artwork and dice and on a board.
This looks so fun
well that just sounds like red dragon inn with extra steps
Was interested in this after hearing about it on the podcast, but that artwork… not my style.
I know is kind of embarrassing to bring that to the table lol
Will I like this if I didn't like Colt Express?
probably not.
This looks similar to Colt Express but better. Is that fair?
Why would it be better? It's nice, but it seems to have nothing of the fast, fun simplicity of CE
Yeah seems to be much more fiddly..
Hah. A good game shouldn't ever make you ask the question "Uh...is this going to be over soon?" It looks fun but that worries me.
what an AWFUL characters design and artwork. It's the only reason, why I will not buy this game =\
That's A LOT of text on that one dragon card. The character art is really not cutting it, compared to the board graphic design.
I’ve seen far worse.
Wow first! Looks good with a bunch of people.
Kim Possible artwork

I guess he has only damaged 1 piece in all these years.
He buys tons of games.
I don't think he does. He gets many free games for reviews.
+Doma Agape Many, sure, but he still buys PLENTY of games. And not everything he reviews he gets as a comp.
