Saw them live last year, they are phenomenal! I'm 79 and an avid concert attendee and I dare say with one possible exception they have the best show I've ever seen.
Heilung (German for healing) is classified as an experimental folk band with music that is based on runic inscriptions and text from the Iron and Viking Age. Their founding is rather interesting. Vocalist Kai Uwe Faust worked as a tattoo artist and offered free tattoos to producer Christopher Juul in exchange for help recording some poems. They were joined by Jul's girlfriend Maria Franz to form Heilung in 2015. they use traditional musical instruments, including bones (including a human forearm bone), drums, horn rattles, stringed instruments, and whistles with lyrics from both modern and ancient languages.
Anoana is a tale of a young girl, a protector of the land. The band used an old script type language that even they do not fully understand. They said this is the beginning of a story not yet told. It is up for interpretation. Pretty much all their stuff is that way. Always beautiful though.
yup your right, the young girl was the most powerful shaman according to them because of her birth during an eclipse they thought she could fend off Ragnarok otherwise known as the (apocalypse) but the inscription for where they came up with this ritual from most of it was destroyed but what I said before about her being born during an eclipse and her fending off Armageddon was the only thing that was actually known and the reason for the eclipse thing is if you know anything about Ragnarok it was said that in simplified terms when the sun is blotted from the sky that would mark the starting of Ragnarok, and since Anoana was born during this "Eclipse" and she was born as a shaman they seen the eclipse as the beginning of Ragnarok and when the end never came they seen that as Anoana having saved them from Armageddon...
heilung means healing in german language, the band means to heal with their sound. the sound is base on northern euopean tribal music from the bronzeage and before destinated in norway , germany and danmark so are the band members greetings from germany
The European metalheads landed here in search of harder, faster and louder. Co-founder Kai Uwe Faust is a Death Metal fan and the typical Death growls are an integral part. The logo is metal, they also release on a metal label and perform at metal festivals, among other things. Stylistically they belong to Nordic Ritual Folk: Healing | LIFA - Krigsgaldr LIVE Wardruna and Aurora - Helvegen (Live)
Very good reaction! You chose the LIFA Live version, very nice! The official video is also worth watching, but the live version is great! You have to see their show! Seeing HEILUNG live is simply a special experience! You should watch other videos from HEILUNG! BTW: She is a deer goddess... is not a bad description at all. The song is about nature and togetherness and solidarity. The man on the ground with the deep singing is a shaman!
I don't understand a word but I feel the text in my heart. The music is absolutely mystical and goes deep into my soul. I feel like I'm connected to it... Heilung is a Nordic ritual folk band with members from Denmark, Germany and Norway. Check out Heilungs Kriegsgaldr's live performance.
Heilung use mostly dead languages for their songs, like Old Norse and Porto-German. They're less a band, than a group of historical reenactors, performing what they think their ancestors did for music a thousand years ago in northern Europe. Costumes and instruments are all hand made from natural materials.
Anoana was young girl, she was the most powerful shaman according to them because of her birth during an eclipse they thought she could fend off Ragnarök otherwise known as the (apocalypse) but the inscription on a coin for where they came up with this ritual from most of it was destroyed but what I said before about her being born during an eclipse and her fending off Armageddon was the only thing that was actually known and the reason for the eclipse thing is if you know anything about Ragnarök it was said that in simplified terms when the sun is blotted from the sky that would mark the starting of Ragnarök, and since Anoana was born during this "Eclipse" and she was born as a shaman they seen the eclipse as the beginning of Ragnarök and when the end never came they seen that as Anoana having saved them from Armageddon...
as far as im concerned Lulu is right, She's the deer goddess. their music is so beautiful! and please watch the official! this was my first time seeing the live version, and it was incredible! love yall, hope youre all well, and stay safe!
Heilung puts on one of the best performances I have ever seen. Truly life changing. I HIGHLY encourage anyone that likes this song check out the rest of their stuff and try to attend a ritual of theirs.
The instrument is called a tagelharpa, sort of like a harp that you use a bow. Check out her "Hour of the Wolf" song which is trad Norwegian. The group is trying to re-inact rituals from two to three thousand years ago in Northern Europe. Look upon this as indigenous European, shamanistic culture.
Heilung (HIGH-lung) don't perform concerts. They hold rituals. Very little of what they sing is in English, with the notable exception of the middle section of Krigsgaldr - which I also recommend. As others have already said, go find the official video so you get the visuals to match what's being sung.
Thanks for doing this ladies. I love Heilung. The video version of this song is wonderful both visually and vocally and gives a better idea of what the story is about. The vocals are not an actual language but a language taken from ancient coins and runs
Great reaction, Ladies! Heilung is an experience. I find their music to be very calming. The music video of this song gives a better feel of the story, but the live performance is wonderful.
I absolutely love the Nordic stuff!!! React to Wardruna, Danheim, Myrkur, Eivør, etc... And you guys in the USA have your own absolutely great band doing Nordic inspired music. They are from Kent, Ohio and called 'Osi and the Jupiter' and they are PHENOMENAL!!! Their song 'Baldur' is a great first one, fully instrumental and pure bliss!
As much as I like Heilung's live performances (which are always great) in my opinion it is better to watch their official music videos. This makes it usually easier to understand what they are singing about even without understanding the words. They use a lot of languages in their music, including German, English, Gothic, Old High German, Icelandic, Latin, Old English, Proto-Norse, Proto-Germanic, and Viking age Old Norse and their music is based on runic inscriptions and texts from the early medieval period. The noun Heilung is German btw and means healing.
They describe themselves as 'amplified history'. Many of their lyrics come for coins and such trinkets found in archeological digs around Scandinavia. Much of which hasn't ever been translated if I remember right. I hear that they hand make many, if not all, of their instruments and costumes. Their name is pronounced "Hei" (like the greeting "Hi") and "lung" (like the breathing organ as it is spelled, but with the 'lu' sounding more one half of Lulu's name.). And they are indeed like nothing you've ever heard before. An interesting, haunting, and addicting rabbit hole to dive into.
Great reaction. Seen them live a couple of times. and it`s an amazing experience. They sing in an ancient language, and nobody understands it anymore, but it`s not important, it`s the feeling and emotions it brings:) You should definetly check out the video of this song. It`s breathtaking.
Me and a friend of mine got to see them in concert last year and I've never experience a spiritual awakening or something to that nature, but I think what I felt walking out of the theater was close to that. I just remember walking out with my mind blown and have been waiting for them to come back through my area again, because I would definitely go again. I've been listening to their music for the last couple of years and they just calm you down and make you feel great.
in a similar vein there is the beautiful song Helvegen performed by the group Wardruna in collaboration with the singer Aurora (and there are English subtitles for it ;) )
The official video for "Anoana" is worth a watch; it provides the narrative - but still no lyrics - so you get the story. It's also a very beautiful video.
The lyrics are based on runic inscriptions found on bracteate coins, during the "Migration Period" of Europe. (300ish to 800ish A.D.) The "official music video" gives off a different vibe, but just as STUNNING. I'm going to see them in Stuttgart, Germany when I travel to Europe in September. :)
Heilung live is an amazing experience. I saw them in LA last December, and at Red Rocks Amphitheater near Denver on April 23. I hope to experience them again soon.
I just want to add, you should listen to all of their work You dont have to react to it, but listen to it If possible listen to it when you are quiet, maybe on ear-phones, laying on your bed or relaxing in a chair Let it wash over you This music can HEAL things in you that you never knew were injured The band's name means HEALING ❤ Heilung ❤ Life
The instrument Maria plays in this is a traditional Finnish instrument called "Jouhikko". The strings are made from horse hairs, called "jouhi" in Finnish.
The live performance is way better than the recorded. Found this group not too long ago. Maria had a beautiful voice. Should watch when she sings with Euzon (sp)
I love this band so glad you guys had the chance to do a reaction video some of their videos are in English. The song Krigsgaldr I believe is in English
The official video brings you a story of pure womanhood and the power of child birth and growing up with the most powerful power ever known. The power of life and love for everything. Unbelievable images of a beautiful landscape. Just my opinion.
hey 3 months later, Heilung sings in Old High German, the OG language of Germany. Its very similar to Old Norse Vikings, and Celtic Irish. Anyways heilung’s lyrics are Runes, more than actual words. If you watched the Show Vikings, Eivor does a lot of the music in that show, very similar but very good in it’s own way. highly recommend you check out Eivor
I found Heilung a few years ago. I've seen people in the comments of their videos saying that listening to Heilung helped them with depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc.
The official videos are amazing. Look up nourpo by this band. It was the first song I heard by them (close to the actual spelling) Tell the young one drugs arent cool. But look into the band and look at some songs Maria (female singer) has written and preformed.

it is so amazing and slightly funny, whenever I see someone watch Heilung (Healing-in english) for the first time, and they all say they have zero clue what they are saying but they love it and just something about it... and that something is your ancestors its something deep inside all of us the tribal part thats why it gives you a feeling in your soul Heilung is amazing you should do other live videos and also the actual music video for Anoana and the other music video from them Norupo
I can say for certain the person who recomended this wanted you to watch the video and not the live performance. The video has so much depth to it its unreal! I watched it the morning it came out and I'm still seeing little details everytime I rewatch it. Please watch the video for the "Family/ Generational" effect.

Also look at the official video …. LULU will love Maria’s beautiful red hair and outfit ❤️
The video is extraordinary. I break out in goosebumps each time I see it.
The original video is for a better understanding of whats the deeper meaning of this song.
Yes, Yes, and Yes....The original video with the young girl.
One of their most powerful and hauntingly beautiful rituals.
The 3 of them will love it.
Saw them live last year, they are phenomenal! I'm 79 and an avid concert attendee and I dare say with one possible exception they have the best show I've ever seen.

you could just say shes a druid haha jk
Old Norse or Proto Indo-European.
I didn’t realize that the PLAY button was a portal to another planet…
All of Heilung’s live performances are amazing.
HEILUNG...an absolutely unique & outstanding Music Project from Denmark, Germany, Norway & There is simply nothing comparable!🦇🥰
Well.. I tend to prefer Wardruna. They're more consistent with their songs.
they make you homesick to a place, where you have never been, a life, you never experienced....
You have to see the video It is very beautiful and may tell more!.
I agree !
Me too!
me three
heilung means healing in german language, the band means to heal with their sound. the sound is base on northern euopean tribal music from the bronzeage and before destinated in norway , germany and danmark so are the band members

The official music video is absolutely stunning visually.
what an amazing band i love them. the video for this song is absolutely amazing..
I attended this ritual (They don't do 'concerts') in London in January 2023. It was a magical, spiritual evening.
I am glad to watch Heilung on your amazing channel. Thank you so much!
Glad you enjoy it!
Kathy Donna now you need to get Lulu some deer antlers to wear now . 😂 Lol. Wintersun Alex ❤️
Good idea!!

Or Or Oldenburg saxon. I am from norther germany
They use some Irish "Gaelige" in some of their songs also.
I went to see them in concert last weekend and it was great. Heilung is pronounced Hi-lung, which means healing. The official video is awesome.

Would love to see a reaction to Aurora and Wardruna - Helvegen Live
Well, no, this side of Norwegian culture died out 860 years ago. This is a museum piece, not a minority spotlight

I was lucky enough to be at this show, one of the best gigs I've ever been to... and I've been to a lot of gigs!
The best note was the Cycle of Life.
That says it all, awesome performance by Marie and Kai by the way.

Music like Heilung transcends our artificial boundaries and connects to something primal in us all.
Whenever I hear Heilung, I'm either so calmed and relaxed, or ready to take on anyone who dares attack me!...but I still feel chill about it.
Ladies, do find time to watch the music vid for Anoana. There's so much more to this song xx

Eivor
Wardruna
Grai especially "In the arms of Mara"

Add garmarna to that list!! Very old band...
That said if they have to choose one name out of your list i'd go with eivor, especially trollabundin.
"HIGH LUNG" the girl with the antlers is married to one of the guys silhouetted (up front to the left) who teamed up with the guy chanting to write the music and production. I know they have some tracks used in the tv "Vikings". everything is based on Germanic rituals and beliefs (pagan) before Christianity, so lulu your pretty close when you said she was a deer god. fyi it was a belief system that valued nature not just humans if that makes any sense.
Check out the official video. Cheers from a Pagan in the UK )O(
Heilung is a German word meaning healing. Their performances are healing rituals for your souls.
At 4 minutes i was expecting at least background sounds, however we will see❤❤❤❤❤
If you haven't yet, listen to Wardruna with Aurora singing Helvegen. It hits deep into your soul.
