  • Magnetic skyrmions are magnetisation swirls with unique topological properties, leading to a number of novel physical effects such as emergent electromagnetism and non-trivial magnetic dynamics. The prototypical skyrmion-hosting materials are chiral magnets, in which the long-range ordered skyrmion lattice is found as the bulk state. Depending on the material, the individual skyrmion size in chiral magnets falls in the range of 3-100 nm. Owing to their small size and topological stability, skyrmions are considered as next-generation binary information carriers. Here, I will present an overview of the field of skyrmionics, covering the concept of topology, skyrmion materials, magnetic characterisation techniques, a critical review of device applications, and an outlook on future developments.

do you have any video that explains magnetic hopfions?

Excellent. Question: If information can be stored in this way, can't force/ or power be stored as well? Seems to me it could.
Are skyrmions twisted, or compressed, or neither, or both?

Yes. Force is stored as the potential scalar which acts as the eigenvalues to the circular polarization vector. Skyrmions are compressed physical matter which exerts strong "winding" exchanges of energy in a potential field.

May I use some of your figures in my Bachelor's thesis? I'm writing about Magnetic Phases in CeAgBi2, (centrosymmetric not quite the same phenomenon- RKKY & Heisenberg frustration, no DM interaction, but will compare it to other materials which are more as you describe). Could I just cite it like this? Hesjedal, Thorsten. “Magnetic Skyrmions.” Lecture, Oxford University Physics Society, Oxford, May 24, 2021.

Thanks for this. Can you list all the udemy courses I'd need to take to understand this ;-)

With a "handle" like yours, you might need additionally a list of all the "stimulants" required to understand, but perhaps the lack of an 'a' in the first part makes all the difference. For my part I would need what amounts to a new brain too.

@@SubTroppo OIC, I thought you were saying I needed stimulants because of my typo! Now I get it.
I'm serious though, I want to learn more about this.
