- Worth it for the storm sequence alone, which is staggering in its audacity, and Shakespearean in its execution. -- Dan Jardine, Cinemania

What a gem of a movie, and what a jewel of a comic. Thank you Buster, you were an icon of comedy, and always will be remembered.
But, um, er...Mr. Keaton died. You can see him in real colour and sound. See, "Something Funny Happened On The Way To The Forum", and "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World."
In the middle of Covid-19 lock-down and I'm so glad I watched this. Such a treasure! Bravo!!
Nearly 92 years old now and is still a beautiful historic piece of American history. Beautiful Buster at his very best in my opinion. Oh God why isn't America still like this. It was so innovative and world leading in it's homebred talent. Buster was used to promote the films industry (along with his peers) then discarded when the film industry found sound, and sex as more a more profitable draw for the masses. He should have been recognised for his contributions to the birth of the film industry earlier, instead of waiting until the last years of his life to honour him. Shame on the Hollywood industry. Buster was an outstanding genius of his time and everyone knows it.
" ... the most talented comic genius of all time Buster Keaton fell prey to the Hollywood Studio system machinery in 1930s which curbed his artistic freedom, leading to alcoholism and ultimately completely destroyed not only his career but also his life."
@@carlosdenevier9538not so. Mr Keaton made an amazing railroad picture in the 1960's. it was absolutely brilliant and proved his ongoing relevance in his later life.
59:03 I'm sure many of you know this, but that prop wasn't some light wall. It was a 4,000 pound wall, with a window so small on each side that he had 2 inches free on both sides. This means, if he was off by 2.1 inches it would've hooked him and took him to the ground like a bug. I have mad respect for Kaeton for this stunt. It's not every day you see people risking their lives for what they truly love. Movie, 10/10.
timing was very key, not to mention a very controlled fall of that wall. Would love to know how it was set up.
did you see his left shoulder flinch to the right when that wall came down, the guy had good spacial awareness
yesss, one of all time greats. no such thing as stunt doubles back then. they had to be mathematical geniuses.
Did you know that the camera man fainted when that scene was being filmed?
He had nerves of steel and total confidence in the calculations they worked out for the stunt, nevertheless, cameramen looked away at the time, they filmed and some staff were away in a corner praying for him. Buster was loved so much by the public and his staff, it's unbelievable.
Great movie. Buster is an amazing stuntman. He has no fear. Fun to watch. Thanks for posting.
I love the hat scene. The whole scene is genius, but especially when at one point the salesman has Bill Jr. try on the trademark derby of Fatty Arbuckle's character, then Buster's flat hat. Both quickly rejected.
I notice Buster snuck in quick gags about his hat in several of his features.
Best Buster Keaton movie.
*Awesome 👏👍👌🙏*
*More realistic and believable than today's giberrish movies.*
*Good action and cinematography.*
Very nice piece of art - an history! - indeed... Buster Keaton must be celebrated and remembered always!! Greetings from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
At the end, Keaton demonstrates his athletic ability. Awesome!
20:50 Did anyone notice the life preserver instantly sink
Its 2017, and no one has come close to Keaton's talent!
Harold Lloyd comes in second.
Jackie Chan is pretty close
Hey just saw your comment, :) saying hey from 2022 now. Buster awesome.
@@patriciarogers3955 You people in the future are still cool!
Still one of my favorite Keaton films. I love when he's trying on hats (17:00), and his father keeps ripping them off. And then for a split second, they put on Buster's traditional porkpie, and Buster rips THAT off before Dad can see it! Then, when Dad finally approves a hat, it's promptly blown off when they leave the store, and Buster puts back on the beret he had when this whole thing started!
Of course, the storm sequence is what everyone remembers about the film, but I remember the small moments. Buster Keaton truly was a genius.
my favorite from that genious Buster Keaton
Id love to see the films in color one day
Women back then had such beauty and style, so beautiful and frminine
I think it's the funniest thing I ever saw. And I had seen other Keaton, all great of course. But scene after scene and detail after detail, this one take MY prize, for what it's worth. I saw it on Classic Arts Showcase and traced it down to this posting on this site. Of course, he's right about the audacity and execution of the storm scene, but it should be the birthright of every kid aged 10 to 18 to know and treasure this as, I hope, they do "Alice in Wonderland".
And so Mickey Mouse stared in an parody of
“Steamboat Bill”
Amo a Buster!! No conocía esta película. Me encantó. Va para mi colección!
Buster Keaton.
What a Man.
He could do it all.
And did!
Wrote. Directed. Produced. Acted. Comedy. Drama. Stunts. Designed and machines and props for gags.
And, oh, that falling housefront bit!
The Great Stone Face.
The Greatest of All Time.
A really great guy.
The true Iron Man: He broke most every bone in his body, and kept going.
And . . . He had pinpoint accuracy with a custard pie at 27 feet!
RIP, darling Buster, and thanx so very much for the magic and memories.
Thank you so very much for sharing this little treasure!
And especially, for not colorizing it.
Classics should always be presented as they were originally presented, whether black and white, sepia, or color, movie or still.

That was truly great! Such a master.
Muito bom recordar o grande Cinema Mudo. A vantagem que havia era do telespectador de participar ,certa maneira,o desenrolar do filme. Era como se pensassemos no personagem,a intenção 🥰🥰🥰das atitudes. Obrigado,Herry! Foi uma excelente escolha.
It is just hilarious all the way through. Still, my favourite part is the jail sequences.
Nice movie. watching in 2020
Love from KL Ind
I think, its his best movie. Arnold, Tom, Sly and others can learn a lot!
one of the very best and to think he did all his own stunts....
Loved the movie, will have to watch it again! Thank you.
That was my first time watching this and...it was fricken AWSOME! 🤪😂😁😊
Is it only me or does anyone else find the women of that era more attractive❤
yesss, i do. cant put my finger on it.
The picture quality is crisper on the other similar length version on youtube, but the score on this version is far superior - complements the action perfectly. This is a superior feature to Sherlock Jr too imo, story hangs together better, more daring stunts and real peril.
It is an extraordinary production with Buster at his peak. Sherlock Jr. is very different, but also has some amazing stunt work.
I've recently done a restoration on that one.
They must have used an aircraft propeller engine to create those winds.
I like him. He looks like so funny.
I'm on a Buster Binge. I've found, if played in .75 speed, the music and action is much more enjoyable and probably closer to the way it was meant to be seen. Try it, you might like it.
56:10 onwards is amazing.
brilliant old jem 🎥🎥🎥😊
Супер фильм!!!
Браво,Бастер!!!
Marion Byron one of if not one of the most stunningly beautiful ladies of that era in film.

Ich liebe BK seit meine Kindheit, jetzt bin ich 80 und ich liebe ihn immer noch!
Pretty sure you couldn't get away with some of those jokes today, especially the "no one will convict you for killing your dandy son" bit
The whole sitting on the sheriff's face thing probably wouldn't fly either.
Considering how vulgar comedy is today, it would fly just fine.
😥😥😥👌👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍زبردست
Imagine if American Ninja Warrior was around the same time as Buster - he'd be flying through!
Just 👌👌
Super.

The thumbnail leads one to believe this had been colorized! I would love to see this great movie in color, who wouldn't?
False advertising and no view here simply because you faked us.
Almost as good as The General. Really, See "The General".
made me laugh
I wonder why these jokes on black people often appear in Keaton´s comedies. Was it on purpose ?
I guess... After all it was 1928, so moral compasses were very different
Unbelievable! Such great talent and skill!
