Important: I forgot to do an edit last night when finishing this video at the very end. I in fact, do not hate Yorna. She's cool. I meant to throw up a picture of Arakiya as a meme 👍
“You can’t be someone else.” this sentence is actually quite ironic for this arc. Prisca became Priscilla, Al, whose identity we do not know. (small spoiler alert but nothing major) Chisa disguised as Vincent.
What is ironic about it. It quite fits them all. Despite having different names their nature never changed. Call yourself whatever you wish, you will not change inside.
The line isn't as much about disguises, or separate identities, as it is about being the person you look up to most. Taritta can't be Mizelda. Subaru/Natsumi can't be Subaru's father. They can only be their best self, but yeah. It definitely applies to Chisha trying, & failing, to be the Emperor. Prisca Benedict being Priscilla Pendleton Barielle doesn't change who she is. If just gives her more freedom to do things she couldn't when she was still Prisca. Natsumi, as a female musician, is given opportunities to seduce and defeat the Womanizer. Natsumi as a female military strategist, is an opportunity to assist Abel in retaking the throne as Emperor of the Volakian Empire without compromising her position in Lugunica. It's also a catharsis for Subaru, who gave up on high school and on taking on a female identity after being clocked three days after starting high school. Both Prisca and Priscilla are parts of the same person. Same with Subaru & Natsumi. Neither are trying to be someone else.
@@dvanepope5602 Also, in the case of Al, Priscilla and Natsumi, they're still the same person, just with a different name (& appearance & gender identity in Natsumi/Subaru's case). Natsumi is just as real as Subaru. None of them are trying to be someone else, unlike Chisha Gold.
Excellent as always! i really appreciate your comments on how Subaru isn't magically fixed and often relapses in some ways. As frustrating as it may be to some readers, this is one of the most realistic and compelling aspects of Subaru's character. No single moment or conversation can fix life-long issues and, even when you have gotten a little bit better, there is always a chance of you relapsing in some form. It is a long-form process that will not end at one arc nor will it ever truly finish. Subaru will always have some issues with himself; however, he can get better at dealing with them. Having to constantly faced those issues and bit-by-bit overcome them is what makes Subaru such and engaging character. I also really enjoy your analysis of the Todd-Subaru parallels. Like Roswaal before him, Todd shares so much characteristics with Subaru that he cannot help projecting himself into Subaru's actions and thought processes. It makes for such a good foil in a different way from Roswaal, as Todd does not have nearly as much power over Subaru as Roswaal did. All he has is his wits and will, which is the same as Subaru. I can't help being entranced by how well it works. I am also glad that you see exactly Rem's point in this phase. She genuinely meant well; she wanted to relieve Subaru of the burden and guilt that he felt, no doubt feeling slightly responsible for putting it onto him. However, her words hurt him due to attacking the crutch Subaru has been using to try and get past the pain and trauma he has gone through. What once were words of love and encouragement have turned into doctorine Subaru follows to have a sense of control. Al's encouragement of this toxic mindset of having to be hero is so fascinating for his character and relationship with Subaru as well. There is so much set up here for Subaru's development and I'm your as excited as I am to see it!
This vid made me appreciate this part of arc 7 a lot more! Also seeing the progression of arc 5 summaries being approximately 10 minutes long to these absolute units is really great!! Keep up the great stuff :)
Todd and Arakiya are just the parallel to subaru and shaula from gluttony if. I believe todd even said the "I wont give you a chance to react" line Subaru said to Otto in the If story.
Not better, but what Natsumi/Subaru needs until Rem rebuilds herself to be her best self who can not only make Natsumi/Subaru the hero she's always believed in, & possibly become a hero in her own right.
They're both very well written, albeit in different ways. Yorna is great as a mysterious femme fatale type character in volume 28 and even better as a loving but physically strong mother & protector of her city in volumes 29 & 30. Arakiya's a great character as the loving sister & servant who has done so much to protect the person she loves most, her sister, & who has never given up on that love, even if her sister may not love her back. Someone who "Belongs to the Princess," no matter what. Of course, I hope she develops a more healthy relationship with her if they make up, because it seems like she's hurting herself allowing herself to be enslaved to protect her milk-sister, & to die by the hand of her milk sister. Even so, Arakiya's still one of my favorite side characters in the Re Zero world.
One of the things I love about how Tappei portrays characters like Felis and Natsumi, is that they're not just joke characters to make light of "boys dressing as girls," but actual explorations into these characters' life experiences in taking on female identities, and how it's not so much a disguise, but an essential part of who they are, & that makes them feel more real to me as a trans girl, who has been stigmatized for it in the past & has struggled with who, if anyone will accept me. Felis being afraid of losing Fourier's love and friendship when he finds out she's physically male, & Subaru resolving never to take on a female identity or go to school again after the trauma of being clocked after three days of attending school as a girl, are instances that are very relatable to the trans community as a whole. I applaud Tappei for treating these things seriously as opposed to making light of them, & I hope we get to see more of Natsumi's identity exploration, & her relationships with Subaru's friends & new family, as well as a meeting between Felis & Natsumi in later arcs sometime in the main series.
I don't know if you did this by mistake. But Felix isn't trans. He's à guy who likes to dress female. Nothing more or less to that. Since I think you called him she

@@WinterGirlRulesHey man the thing is that, is Natsumi and Subaru are the same persons or not ......
imagine being called a hero by someone you cared about then that same person said you aren't one

I've seen people call it an improvement on her character but i dont see it, i just find her boring now.
