Though I understand your point regarding auto tension, auto tension is nice and helpful. You have to remember small home businesses have your single head machines as well. Suggestion: it would be AWESOME if you had auto tension as an option! Like an On or Off option on the screen. That way one can take advantage of auto and turn it off for projects that require adjusting the tension manually.
This excellent comparison was done 3 years ago as of 11/30/2023. But things have changed, specially with Melco/Bernina. Melco/Bernina just introduced the EMT-16 PRO that has the same type of control panel as the Ricoma, it has built-in WiFi capabilities, and it has four or five built-in brands' thread listing from where you can select the colors of the cones you will put on the thread rack. I already have a Bernina B830 embroidery machine, and it can connect to the big machine very easily using the Bernina Embroidery that I already own.
Appreciate your input. Several key differences to note on the Bernina E16 Pro vs the Ricoma 10S panel (maybe we’ll even do an updated comparison video): Bernina’s is not multi-touch, meaning it won’t support sliding and pinching functions. In addition, it still has analog buttons around the panel and so it’s not 100% touchscreen. E16 Pro is also listed at $22k, while the Ricoma 10S is 30% less in cost while boasting a more advanced panel. But it’s about time Melco moved into the 21st century!
I am the owner of 2 Melco's (EMT16 Plus and EMT16) and have used Brother, Baruaden and Tajima in the past for businesses I worked for. My 2nd machine I purchased used when I bought out another business, but I don't believe that each Melco cost is the same because the first one will have software and the additional ones will not. I imagine this will bring the price down a bit. Though I am overall satisfied with my machines, there are some things I hate about them. I've never seen a Ricoma in person, but they look like knockoffs of other brands machines.
While the cost of the each one might be different, the economies of scale of multiple single heads still cannot beat the cost savings of a multihead. So while the second or third or fourth machine might cost a bit less, it will still be significantly more than a 4-head for example. Again, something to keep in mind for people looking to scale.
What are some of things you hate about your machines? I’m currently looking to purchase 6 Melco’s of my own. Your expertise would be greatly appreciated.
@@MikeJones-nq6nv Greetings Mike. If you have ever used an industrial embroidery machine, you've likely seen a hook that grabs the thread while trimming. The Melco has a sweeper bar (I forget what they call it) that is always in the way. I always jam my fingers into it and it is annoying. Another thing is that Melco loves to talk about their Acti-Feed system. I think it is nothing but a sales pitch. I'd rather have actual tension knobs. Lastly... I did the "upgrade" last June that was supposed to be awesome..... For me that is not the case. I know others (who use the same techs), that are VERY HAPPY with it. Feel free to look up Happy Hermit Embroidery on FB or IG. Send me a message and I'll give you my number. We can talk one on one if that is helpful to you.
They far from knock off my friend. I can confidently go toe to toe with any embroidery company quality wise with my mt1501 ricoma. My hats comes out even better than the hats at lids quality wise. They pretty good machines and to top it all they’re customer service is second to none.
I have the Mt1502 - 2 head machine and I love it!!! Changing the tension manually isn't much of a hassle but, having a tension indicator on the touch screen panel would be AMAZING
Keep in mind that with a Multi-Head machine, if you are doing hats, you have to make sure that ALL hats are hooped exactly alike so that they are all centered. Where as with individual heads, you don't have to be exact and you can adjust each one to be centered. This goes for flats as well. Everything must be hooped alike.
Yes, very true, that is something that needs to be very consistent on a multihead machine. But there are accessories and tools to assist with consistent hooping in this instance that are much more cost effective than going with multiple single heads. This is not to say that there aren’t use cases for multiple single heads, as they can be quite effective if you focus on one off jobs or personalization/customization. But the fact that ricoma gives you the option to have multiple single heads or scale with multiheads was the point of that part of the comparison, vs Melco only having single heads and no multiheads.
I love so much about Ricoma from what I've seen in all of your videos. The auto-tension is such a biggie for me, though. I'll never forget upgrading from a Brother 1034 serger to a Baby Lock; the difference by not having to adjust tension was game-changing. I just can't decide... I don't like that Bernina bought Melco...
Since we are the manufacturers all our content will come from our perspective but this video solely compares two machines, features package and facts that aren't left to opinion. We encourage all customers to comment their opinions and feedback! Thanks for watching!
I own three melcos and love them. I can fix them myself and every time I call for help I get an answer. As far as tensioning goes, changing on the fly through the software is great, as well as applying different settings by needle in the control software. You can set different needles to feed at different rates, cut lengths, tail trims and even tie ins. I think between my three machines I'm at over 100,000,000 stitches and nothing has broken yet. I'd recommend them. Plus I live in Denver and I can zip up there whenever I want and pick up a new set of thread rollers or even a Z motor, god forbid
@@adnanidrees6593 I live near to the HQ and I can fix these easily myself, so I'm not stuck with a long downtime. There are also several techs in my area, and their design software is great Design Shop
@Adnan Idrees yes can be networked but as explained in the video, networking 3 different machines together to do different designs is not unique to Melco. Ricoma and many other machines can do that. Good luck!
One topic that was missed in this video is the production output between these two machines. Example: Can a four head tandem machine out run a 4 individual Melco machines.
Depends on what type of item you’re doing right? If it’s 100 pieces of the same logo, yeah a 4-head is going to outperform 4 single heads every time. Why? 4 times fewer the set up. But if you’re doing 100 pieces all different personalized items, then 4 single heads is going to outperform because you would have to shut off 3 out of the 4 heads on a 4-head machine to run one item at a time.
When you assume that a pro setup would be 6 heads. The one point that is an advantage with the Melco, you can run several programs at the same time. AND, if one machine goes down, you don't need to take them all down to repair the one. Keeping the needle going up and down making money is very important for a small shop.
Yes that’s absolutely true, but like we mentioned in the video, connecting multiple single heads together and run several different jobs/designs as you alluded to is not unique to Melco. Ricoma single heads can be connected in such a way as well. One other tip we would mention is that multiple single heads is good if you are doing very custom orders and personalization, therefore needing different machines to do different jobs, while multiheads like a 6 head would be good for volume and bulk orders.
@@ricomatv So , can you go into this a little deeper. In watching your videos, it was explained differently when connecting multiple single head Ricoma machines when stitching several different designs in a custom design scenario. You mentioned connecting machines, multiple computers versus one computer that could print different designs at the same time. Melco does this. Can Ricoma connect multiple single head machines, printing different designs at the same time? I guess my point is not everyone is interested in a multi head due to having to stop all heads to fix a thread break. Granted a multi head is the way to go if you are printing multiple items of the same design. I guess it is depending on how your business is structured. There is no right or wrong, but in your comparison you are comparing apples to oranges and not explaining the difference.
Like we mentioned before, connecting multiple single head machines together to embroider different designs on each is not unique to Melco. Ricoma single heads can be connected together to embroider different designs. There are customers that do this regularly with 4-5 single head machines.

I can confirm the issues with Melco's "tech support". I bought an old machine and tried contacting tech support just to find where I could download a boot disk(something you'd think would be easy to find for an old machine)....I say tried because sales couldn't tell me if it was available and they don't let you talk to anyone in tech support AT ALL. Their phone system will just drop your call. I got someone to answer an email but then they never followed up and I ended up solving all my problems on my own by digging around.
It's awesome that you guys offer 24/7 support, and I see that there are a lot of dealers/sales people in the US. But is there anything available for Canada? If I was to purchase a machine, am I going to be able to get the same services from you guys up here, as you do there? I wouldn't want to be left stranded with something I couldn't fix! TIA
We have local distributors in Canada that will be your first point of contact. They provide the training and support. But you also have access to our headquarters for support should that be needed. Hope this helps! You’re never going to be left hanging when you’re a part of the Ricoma family!
So if I was to buy a Ricoma 1. Is there anywhere in Colorado to get hands on training? How would a person who has never stood in front of a machine get the training they need to be successful? 2. If a problem occurred.... is their a tech in Colorado? Many of the social platforms say to only purchase a machine that can provide hands on training and have tech in your state. What are your thoughts on that. Thank you for your time.
Hi there, first off, the majority of our customers have never used an embroidery machine before. We have Hands-on, in-person training available free with your machine at our head quarters in miami, or online via video chat. We do have lots of customers come in for their training and the rest typically do that training online with a trainer. If you were to purchase a multi head machine, we end the tech to you for your in person training. We do offer a limited warranty that includes a tech coming to you if something goes wrong, but typically our customers call in via video chat and our team walks them through getting the machine up and running in no time. Ricoma is the manufacturers of our machine so we are the experts of our products and we offer lifetime support after hours and on weekends free with your machine. Our customer service is top notch. We also provide digitizing classes and free resources like facebook groups with ricoma employees tech and customers with options to chat with out techs to ask questions and get practice with professionals over and over again at no extra cost. We're very focused on education and making sure our customers are well trained and understand their machine. You'll always have us as a resource.
This was very interesting and informative! I have been looking to add an embroidery machine to my business and channel. How can I get more information?
Hello! Ricoma packages are different in other countries as dictated by the distributors. The offers mentioned in our videos are applicable to the US where our company is stationed. If you purchase a machine from a Ricoma distributor, the distributor is in control of their offers, not Ricoma. But you can always connect with Ricoma online on our social media platforms whenever you have questions! Make sure to join our Facebook group, Embroidery and Custom Apparel Mastery to connect with other Ricoma users.
Hi there, thanks so much for watching. We recommend doing what's called an I test. Please check out this video for more information: ua-cam.com/video/X0e-UsLgmc4/v-deo.html&t
So I do have a question, on Ricoma being multiple heads means you need to run the same project on them or you can still run different projects on each at a time??
If you mean can our multi head connect via Ethernet to a computer network to be able to send designs to the machine from computer, then absolutely. But when you said you can only run one design at a time, that’s going to be true for all multihead machines as they’re meant to run bulk orders. If you’re looking to do different designs because you focus on personalization orders, then you’re better off with multiple single heads and network them together, which ricoma single heads can achieve. Hope this helps!

beautiful video ..i am from ETHIOPIA and i was wondering how am i able to get accessories and spare part once i imported the machine. Does the machines needs a constant accessories supply or is it the machine u can depend without breaking part for years?
You can always get it from your dealer or manufacturer you purchased from. And with proper maintenance, the machine can last for years just like a car!
I lov this! Thank you! Is chroma the program that can work with your machines or can illustrator files exported in the right way be used too? I’m just curious about your compatibility
Illustrator and Chroma are very different programs. Illustrator is used for design and designing vector files while Chroma is used for digitizing. You can import vector files into chroma to then begin your digitizing process. But as long as the digitizing software outputs a DST file format, it can work with out machines. Hope this helps!
If you have multiple single head machines you can do different items on each head. With a 2-head machine you have to do the same pattern/design on both heads. Multiheads are suitable for bulk orders while multiple single head machines are suitable for businesses that focus on personalization

Not necessarily as ricoma covers 160 countries in the world. It’s not that hard to move a laptop around. On top of that the software can be updated better through computer rather than on a built in screen that will become outdated. You act like everybody is old school using only a desktop.
That might be your opinion but for half the people who have a Mac, they’d have to buy a new Windows laptop just for connecting to a Melco, and not everyone is willing or able to spend the extra investment, plus it does limit mobility. One thing i learned is Melco sends direct to from PC to machine, already with the parameters and color settings.saving time on that setup, I have a Ricoma SWD, and been using it about for a month, and was always wondering why i need to re input the color order when it should be able to have it already set up. I own a CNC machine and when i send to cut something with specific bit, it knows what bit i selected,i don't have to go to machine to reselect bit. In other words. I'm imputing again the color order to machine again, when Ive already selected it and set on Chroma..maybe that's something to add for future OS update, like keep your color pallet matching the program so you save on this step. that's my 2 cents..although felt like 25cents :). Note, Laptops also can do the job. Mobil and light , although i prefer PCs

Largest hoop on the ricoma is 22x14”! So no problem for jacket designs!
@@ricomatv Thank you
Anytime!
So if I was to buy a Ricoma
Thanks Henry. Another great video!
This was very interesting and informative! I have been looking to add an embroidery machine to my business and channel. How can I get more information?
You can get in touch with us at ricoma.com/us/contact-us
Is not thru that Ricoma have 5 years guarantee. In Uk is only one year . Can you please explain why ?
I’ve been waiting for this!
Thanks for watching! We hope it was helpful!
If I have to manually adjust tension on the Ricoma, how do I know when to do so? Do I mess up a shirt with too much tension or not enough tension?
Hi there, thanks so much for watching. We recommend doing what's called an I test. Please check out this video for more information: ua-cam.com/video/X0e-UsLgmc4/v-deo.html&t
So I do have a question, on Ricoma being multiple heads means you need to run the same project on them or you can still run different projects on each at a time??
It has to be the same project but on multiple heads which = more money!
But does your multi head allow for networking?
From what I understand they don’t. You can only run one design at a time.
I want the 4 head machine.
Great video, thanks! This really helps clarify some of the differences :)
Thanks! Glad you liked it! Let us know if you have any questions!
Hi- thinking of a RCM 120-1TC-75. Does it have automatic tension? I may be able to get it 2nd hand...it has Wilcom but I would need Korean in addition to what is already there. Thank you for your assistance and amazing video!

Absolutely, Tricia! We are here for you (:
is there a Ricoma distributor in the Netherlands, Europe?
Hi! We do have distributors that can help! Please submit a request to our team so they can help > ricoma.com/US/contact-us
You mentioned that newbies who don't know how to set tension might light the auto tensioning - where can one learn about how to set the tension? How do you know what the is at any given point?
Hi there! Check out these videos --->ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=tension+ricoma+
love this when i grow this is a place to go.
Good to hear and hope you get there!
You should do a comparison against barudan machine.
Good idea 💡! Thanks for your suggestion
Barudan is top of the line
Just what I was looking for. People are lossing their jobs left and right so I want to make sure I will get my money's worth. I really like what you stand for.
Thanks @ET Wallace! We are glad you enjoyed our video and like what we stand for, which is ultimate success of our customers’ businesses!
How do you transfer a design into the embroidery machine? USB?
Exactly!
this is a no brainer! Ricoma for the win!
thanks Henry!
You got that right! Thanks so much for watching!
beautiful video ..i am from ETHIOPIA and i was wondering how am i able to get accessories and spare part once i imported the machine. Does the machines needs a constant accessories supply or is it the machine u can depend without breaking part for years?
You can always get it from your dealer or manufacturer you purchased from. And with proper maintenance, the machine can last for years just like a car!
Beautiful looking video, keep it up!
Thank you! Will do!
I lov this!
So what’s the price of a ricoma mp1501??
Hi there, please submit a request with the team so they can help you! ----> ricoma.com/US/contact-us
What is the differenc & advantage single head & double head machine.& in diff. pattern how many needles are available min
& Max.
If you have multiple single head machines you can do different items on each head. With a 2-head machine you have to do the same pattern/design on both heads. Multiheads are suitable for bulk orders while multiple single head machines are suitable for businesses that focus on personalization
Hi how do I get ricoma embroidery machines in Kenya?

Is this machine available in India?
Hi! Yes, it is available. Please submit a request with our team so they can contact you: ricoma.com/US/contact-us
So would it be better to live in a state closer to the Ricoma headquarters. Because I live in North Carolina and I don’t think They sell the machines .
Not necessarily as ricoma covers 160 countries in the world. If you’re in NC, not only does ricoma have support teams that you can call 7 days a week and extended hours, there is also a network of technicians locally in each area that covers different regions should an onsite service be required. Hope this helps!

A Melco I assume...
Who do i contact re pricing & purchase?
I'm in Jamaica
Hi there! You can fill out the form at this link and your local distributor will be in touch with you, ricoma.com/us/contact-us
Someone go get Melco some water! Ricoma totally torched their clubhouse with this one! Lol.
@@laibakmusic I have researched both companies very thoroughly. Melco has WAY too many shortcomings for my taste.
@@laibakmusic Based on your comment, I’m guessing you watched something else because your comment doesn’t add up. If you watched this & came up with Melco is better, then you are on some 90s Compton crack. 🤣
@@hawkeyestiguy lol if u can deal with tension probelms all day...if the screen break its over....stupid...standalone systems are always more reliable and durable. Lifetime warranty because they know you'll have a lifetime of stress. Melco is faster also...lol
@@laibakmusic Witch which models & what years specifically? Maybe you weren’t smart enough to use it right? 🤷🏻♂️ Lol
Very well presented. 😁

Do these Melco machines use .dst files or is there a certain sew file that the Melco uses?
Melco does not use DST
You can load a dst file on melco but won't be able to edit. Melco uses ofm file
HEY HENRY!!🤗
Hey Harmony! Hope all’s well!

Something to consider as actual feedback from customers! Thanks for watching!
@@ricomatv please tell me something else . who don't have a computer nowadays?
Everybody has a cell phone, but not necessarily a computer actually
i actually had a built pc that i sold n got a mac and i do not like the fact that i have to purchase an entirely different computer to run the melco that’s extra space i can save. running parallels also isn’t an option for stability.
Am from sierra leone, how much will it cost me to have the ricoma in my country

Make sure to contact support for any help! You can reach us here -> ricoma.com/US/tech-support
Maybe I missed it. What about price comparison? Lifetime tech support is awesome but is this priced into the ricoma machine already?
Hello! our all inclusive machine packages start at $130 a month with 0% financing. EVERYTHING is included even lifetime support. Once you become a Ricoma customer and we set up your Ricoma account, you'll be set for the life of your machine with resources, tech support and training.
Thanks so much for watching and sharing your suggestion. We'll certainly pass this along!
Hi
I am using swd12018s from last 1year
I would like to add sequence attachment
And i buy and attach
Yes! You can definitely add on a sequins device and install it, but it would require some technical assistance for proper installation.
Henry can you please get a hold of your team that I can't seem to get a hold of and find out why our embroidery machine has not been shipped out yet. Our headquarters is in Miami, FL and we also have a service center in Los Angeles, CA. From these 2 locations we cover the entire US and also have a network of certified technicians that cover all major cities and areas. So while we don’t have a physical location in Dallas, we have several technicians around the Dallas/Fort Worth area and have many customers in Dallas and surrounding areas in Texas. Hope this helps!

Its titled battle of the machines though!!! Ding ding ding !
The multi head networking feature is not true. I have this machine and it does not do this. Also I have my machine networked and the only thing g you can do is send files.the melco's control is completely by pc. Speed density even thread tension is computer controlled. Also melco machine es are resellable ricomaa are not.
Yeah I guess you have to make up the fact that there is no control panel and force people to buy a computer to run the machine. Would imagine we are in 2024 and the technology would be beyond dinosaur age at this point
Which one is better melco or ricoma
Hi there, it depends on what you're looking for in a package. This video will help you decide!
