When I was younger my grandma used to cook the rabbits that we got while we were out hunting and the way she cooked them was in a cast iron skillet adding so flour and I think dehydrated milk to make a gravy and wow was it good. But as you all know duplicating grandmother's cooking is next to impossible.
For the mashed potatoes, try to dry out the potatoes after draining them. Also, heat the milk before using. For an extra kick, add garlic cloves to boil with the potatoes and mash them.
Just tried rabbit tonight for the first time, whilst having people over for dinner. Went wonderful; my uncle - who is never adventurous with his meats - liked it well enough, and deeply appreciated the presentation of the dish (rabbit carcass served on mashed potato). I've gone through many different videos on how to prepare rabbit for tonight, but I want to leave this comment on this video because of the presentation ideas. My rabbit came out dry as I put it in the oven, but the flavour was still very clear.
I wanted to say thank you for the great marinades and tips! We cooked our 1st meat rabbit tonight and it turned out fabulous!! I went with more of a cilantro/lime approach, but using the butter to baste did make a world of difference in keeping the rabbit from drying out on the grill. I agree that the full rabbit (not pieced up) does take a little getting used to. We've eaten wild rabbit before which does have a bit of gamey taste, but farm raised has zero game taste. My wife's first comment was: it tastes exactly like chicken!! Even my 5 & 9 year old girls loved it! Looking forward to doing BBQ and a Rabbit Curry sounds outstanding too. It was a food first experience for us. Thanks again!
Glad to know you are a hunter! One of my favorite memories is bringing home squirrels I had shot that morning. While I got ready for work, my Dad would clean them and Mom would make buttermilk biscuits and squirrel gravy. Add some sliced tomatoes and it was heavenly. A perfect breakfast to hold me through a workday.

They have no problems with approving processed crap that's creating health issues now days, but anything healthy or whole they want to ban. I miss not being able to get rabbit meat. Or venison and any of the wild game I grew up eating. I miss it all. This looks really delicious and brings back great memories.❤✌🏼

Thank you for supporting the rabbit industry for people who raise for meat. Rabbits used to be a huge meat source but theses animal savers think they are pets. There not. Love the videos great job.
I think rabbit is an excellent meat source animal. They take up very little space to raise, they can reproduce several times a year, and the fur is excellent as well. Seems like a very sustainable option for those of us who love eating meat but hate the climate impact and other negative aspects of feed lots.
I need to do it again, last year I made a rabbit stew. Fresh herb bundle and all. I used my dutch oven to sear it, then took it out, and roasted the vegetables, before taking those out. Then I used a little chicken stock to deglaze the pan. Put it all back in, with the rabbit on top, and added the rest of the chicken stock, and the fresh herbs. Came out perfect.
