VEEDUBRACING - BEST OF VW AIRCOOLED DRAG RACING

- When I do a compilation video, I usually choose one model, but for this aircooled video, I thought I would include as many of the VW range that I have filmed (including some non VW cars, but with VW aircooled engines)
It is always going to be predominately VW Beetles, but there is a good mix of Campers, Buggys, Karmann Ghias, Type 3's etc thrown in.
These are all vehicles that I have filmed my self, and do not include any that I have not. Apologies for any vehicles I have missed out, but I had to draw the line somewhere.
Also, some of these vehicles may have run quicker times, these are just the runs that I liked.
You May see on the side of a lot of these cars, the lettering O/FF nn. This is for cars that compete in the Outlaw Flat Four class. Check them out on FaceBook for more info - / offdrc

My dad actually built the world's fastest VW beetle back in the 1960's.It was called the "Mouse Trap".It ran in the 9 second range! I still have the July 1970 issue of Popular Hot Rodding with the car on the cover.!
Hm, wasnt Mouse Trap not in 1973?
I remember that car from the mid 1970's. I think it was running 10's when I saw it.
Years ago I had a 1970 Volkswagen. Bug blue printed 1600 cc motor 40 pound empi clutch 2 barrel carb headers turned the 1/4 mile at 20 et at almost 105 mph. Reminds me of the good old days .God bless you guys
Nothing like an air-cooled Beetle 🤙🤙
Love air cooled V Dubs just as they were in the mid to late 60's. Soaking up the glory in the I/Gas class. The setup was twin 48IDA Webers, tall intake manifolds, big displacement (for an air cooled VW) rad cam, high compression (for a VW). Good big valve, ported after market heads, knife edged forged crank, 8 dowel flywheel, roller high ratio rocker arms. Naturally aspirated, unlike the supercharged Willys, Henry J. and Anglia AA/ G running in the early to mid 60's. It's actually pretty much the present day air cooled VW P/S (Pro Stock) class minus the wild custom paint adorning the 60's I/Gas cars. Many of which continue to run in Europe, England and Scandinavia.

It's insane how they can make a vehicle shaped like a loaf of bread go through the quarter mile so fast
yeah it is mad mate. Hoping to film a campervan break into the 10's this year !!!!
What's insane is perception vs reality of just what is a low drag aerodynamic shape. It's not always what you think it's gonna be.
@@gregorytimmons4777 Are they aerodynamic, or is it just brute power? Either way, they are still impressive to watch..
Hitler subjected them to through wind tunnel testing.
Great video
Damn i love this video ! i watch it with a pair of high end Studio Quality headphones on to really hear the engines there is something so exciting about a VW motor sounding like these guys get them going to i’m freinds with two Brothers that own and operate a Automotive repair shop that financially does very well so these guys have some personal Toys one of them Builds and Races old school Chevy Hot Rods and the other one has been collecting old VWs for years to build one that will smoke the others Classic American Big and Small Blocks just to have his bragging rights
Glad you like the video mate. Its a sound you never get sick of hearing. Looking forward to being back at the track soon. Stay Tuned 🤙
So damn cool I love this video
Cheers mate. Glad you liked it
Esses aircooleds tem o som incentivo ao vtec

Só os TOP BR !
Love it
Cheers mate
Saved best till last eh 8.2 wow thats mint
cool video :)
Thanks mate
Nice to see Bernard Newburys, Stitch Up.
It always is.. Such a cool car
Love it. This is GLORIOUS!
Nice one mate. Glad you liked it
I know right its so amazing
Well I never!!!! Insane power from these Vdub motors....
yeah, they don't hang about :) :)
Love the content...I'm a big VW guy myself but I'm mainly into the 2.0 8valve setups
Cheers mate. Dont get many 8v racers at the track. All the Golf guys love the VR6 turbo setups now.
@@VeeDubRacing I actually have a golf 3 cabriolet with a VR6 12valve conversion 😅 but shes my daily. But 2.0 8valve turbo set up coming soon hopefully
I'd love to get 200-250hp from a turbo 8valve
@@rushdipaleker Would be good to see. Not even sure what the 1/4 mile record is for a 2.0 8v Turbo. Will have to find out.
@@VeeDubRacing here in cape town there is a 8valve N/A golf running 12.5 sec 1/4 mile
Me first car was a bug 1967. Miss that car
Come a long way since then. about 50bhp back then, and now 500+bhp with some of these
My passion for bugs started back home in Monterrey MX seeing 9-10 second bugs at the autodromo race track when I was a kid and the car shows were crazy in mx, heavily moded audio systems to interior, exterior, stroker motors...I wanted to buy a bug in mx and build it but prob not a way to legalize it hear in the states, but the currency of the american $ you could build a stroker motor for half the price...
Parts in the UK are getting really expensive now, so to have motors like these built, costs a fortune. Still nothing beats seeing a bug run in the 9's, well until you see one run in the 8's :)
@@VeeDubRacing my dad had a vw bug in mx he would tell me how cheap it was to build them 40+ years ago before I was born, that's prob a big reason they became popular for the people with little $$$ that wanted to get serious about racing...these professional engine builders are charging a arm and a leg hear in the states, wish they would have stayed affordable, I had a baja 73 super beetle I sold cuz I didnt have $ for 2 projects, I'm still working on my 76, I have big plans for it but just taking longer than I intended...my $ that I have put into my home remodeling and lawn renovation I could have bought a 2332cc stroker motor...well cheers my friend we both have something in common and that's passion for these little v dubs
6:10 A Fiat X19 bodied VW? Someone needs to do a street version!
Yeah, that is one cool little car.
Darrell Vittone drove it back in the Years.
Um moto atrás do outro entenda virabrekin de Fusca com
Those cars are awesome!!!! Esp. the buses!!!!
Hoping to see some more quick buses out on the track this year.........fingers crossed for some racing
Damn I miss seeing and smelling the aircooled action at Pod. And Luke’s dulcet tones 😂
Shall I do a Luke Highlight Video :) :) Definitely missing my early morning walk round the pits with my cup of coffee, seeing all the racers working away, and getting ready for the day.
@@VeeDubRacing 😂 that’d be awesome but not a lot of people would get it.
Those little VWs can get pretty pissed!
some great ET's
I notice that some have wheelie bars whilst others make do with a very long exhaust.....
Track marshals dont really like the exhaust digging into the floor. Probably ok, on the road, or non prepped track. I think soon as the guys start getting this quick, they add the wheelie bar setup.
1:25 What's the spec on Natural High?! I couldn't imagine a NA launch like that. (O_O)
I know it used to run a 2387cc engine, but not sure on the spec. There may be some more info on the Outlaw Flat Four FaceBook page
Was it a .102 for the dragster! Damn
Yu Uu
Did that bus have a 6 speed transmission :o
Yep 😎😎
Just curious - what's the most power that can be had out of an air-cooled 4 in one of these and still be able to close the rear lid. I.e. sleeper mode? Would that be via a Type IV short block?
There is probably someone much better at answering this than me. I have seen 280bhp from the type1 engine, and then the way to go is to add NOS. Its the big turbo setups that stop the engine lid from shutting. So with 100 to 150 shot of NOS, you can get the power up to 400+bhp.
I've seen some turbo setups with low mount turbos still concealed under the decklid with 300+hp, powerhaus vw in CA builds some beautiful engines and cb performance also in CA some of the best vw engine builders that will build to your spec...there are popular vw swaps like the 13b rotary small in size that will fit under the decklid or the Subaru ej20,ej25 from the sti flat 4 boxer engine, its low profile makes a popular swap as well...
