      As a user of pine litter, a sifting box can come with its own cons. Over time, the sifting pan gets clogged and stops doing the job well. So I switched to disposable sifting liners. They're inexpensive and work great.
      As for scooping, in lieu of a sifting box or liner, you would do more of a "reverse scoop" where you sift out the clean in tact pellets from the sawdust. This works but it can be time consuming.
      My routine is to use a latex-gloved hand to remove the solids first and then sift the sawdust through the liner. It feels ick at first but you eventually get desensitized

      @@vaughneudy3003 With the reusable sifting pan, did you ever have anything at the bottom that helped lift it up the sifting the pan where the sawdust falls into the other pan. I didn't know this when I got the pine pellets, but it needs about a couple of inches of clearance for the sawdust to fall down into the other pan otherwise it will get all caked up and icky. Just curious.

    The equine pine liter they sell for horses is MUCH cheaper than that "Feline Pine" you're reviewing. It's $5 for a 40 pound bag at Tactor Supply and lasts a long time. You HAVE TO use it with a sifting litter pan, which you did not do in this video which is probably why your experience was not in line with mine. I purchased an Arm & Hammer sifting liter box and added/glued "feet" to the bottom of the sifting box to raise it up. I then use urine pads/puppy pads in the bottom and it will soak up excess urine as the dissolved pine liter falls to cover it. When you use it correctly, the urine will make the pine expand and it falls to the bottom of the tray leaving just solid waste that I scoop into my liter genie. The smell in my home is SOOOOOOOOO much better using this pine. It smells like a saw mill in the liter room and the cats LOVE it.

    Great reviews! I’ve used ALL of them… I have 4 cats and there is certainly a learning curve with litter. Worlds Best used to be my solid go-to favorite. However, lately it’s quite dusty. I’m now using almost exclusively Naturally Fresh. It does look like large coffee grounds - but it does the job… all cats use it with no objection.. and the odor control is very good. I do scoop the 3 litter boxes 3 times a day - so odor typically is no issue as I keep the boxes pretty “clean”. I really appreciate your insight … thank you 😊

    Just a comment about sWheat Litter: Our lovely craftsman-style house was built in the 1920s and we usually have to trap a few mice each spring (unless one of our four cats gets them first, which I don't really want to happen). I tried sWheat Litter several years ago. Our litter boxes are in the laundry room which is by the back door. When I used sWheat litter, I started finding mouse droppings around the boxes, which surprised me because you'd think that the smell of cat urine would deter mice. Anyway, I figured out that the mice were attracted by the litter, which they were eating. So if you live out in the country or have an older house, I would not recommend sWheat litter only for the reason that it attracted mice when I used it.

    Remember with these natural litters there is a likelihood that those made of wood and corn will attract bugs such as ants. Corn is food for bugs. Ants and other bugs love wood and feces. Your cat or dog might eat the corn as well. If the A&H litter has a strong baking soda smell, that might deter bugs and your pets from eating it. Also on the Feline Pine, I so wanted that to work out for me, with the Tidy Cat Breeze box, but it attracted ants who wanted to make it their personal farm, and one of my two cats refused to use it probably due to the size of the pellets. She is a small cat. Very helpful reviews. I have also seen not great reviews of the natural walnut litter.

      I have a clean tight house but do occasionally have ants passing through. We tried one of those grass-seed litters, and it REALLY attracted ants. I think that would be true of the corn and cassava litters as well.The walnut one didn't attract bugs, but it didn't absorb moisture or clump very well: small crumbly clumps, so not acceptable. We've tried a bunch of different options, but have returned to a clay one-Arm & Hammer Slide. Overall it's good, but wish it didn't track so much.. Still haven't found an ideal litter.

    I've been owned by cats for over 30 years and have tried sooo many different cat litters. During the time of my first cat the first urine-clumping litter (to my knowledge) was introduced. It was Scoop Away; I saw it demonstrated at a cat show and fell in love with it. I used it exclusively until it disappeared from the shelves with many different "clumping litters" appearing. After trying so many, and being disappointed by them, I tried World's Best Cat Litter and stayed with it until I was introduced to the video by the woman who had the idea to combine parts of the Breeze box with a large litter box and used kiln-fired pine pellets.
    I had two cats at the time - my dainty 15 year old calico and a 14-lb. rescue cat. The new cat had a LOT of urine, based on his size and the calico was using the litter box frequently so their respective boxes got a work out. Also, the larger cat was a digger and slung about half the litter in his box on the floor, plus the tracking. The pine litter system was a God-send. As long as I emptied the urine dust regularly there was no odor, very few litter pellets on the floor, and no tracking. The elder, very thin calico with her little feet jumped into her box, did her business and jumped out so I went in and moved the pellets around so the sawdust would move to the bottom pan. I've since lost my calico.
    Due to an unforeseen issue, I had to go back to the clumping litters and that's when I tried all the ones recommended online and by friends but finally went back to World's Best Cat Litter. Since my cat makes a lot of urine and the smell was overwhelming as I transferred the clumps to the Litter Genie, I now put a layer of baking soda over the remaining litter after cleaning, then a layer of the litter, and top it off with more baking soda on the top which I gently swirl into the litter with the scooper. That absorbed and eliminated the odor.
    I now plan to return to the pine litter since I saw the Arm and Hammer sifting system that has larger holes in the sifter and less "moving parts" of the Breeze system. Looking forward to going back to it!!

      Wow, thanks for all this insight as well. I am so completely out of the loop, I don’t even know what a sifting contraption is, trying to picture it. Also don’t know what the Breeze thing is. I do have a question for people though, I was reading some reviews about the walnut litter and it sounds like the red dust gets all over the place and stains certain types of surfaces. Does that seem to be peoples’ experience? I have taken in two neighbor cats from the same neighbor who is just not a great cat owner, long story, but one of them is a real champ with the litter box, while the other one is very finicky and chooses to use the floor most the time if he can’t get outside to go. When I have used just straight up sand he likes that and uses it (but it’ll smell really bad in no time at all of course since it doesn’t come) so I’m looking for something natural, thinking he may be more inclined to use that than the clumping clay litters that I have used. I tried newspaper pellets at one point but that was a flop. my husband is so angry about the cats all the time and I just don’t know what to do. He just lost his job, I’m trying to get back to work so we are broke and I don’t want to spend a fortune on all these different litters trying to figure out which one will work. I’m tempted to try that Arm & Hammer just because of the price point.

    I’ve been using equine pine pellets, from Tractor Supply (or any store that sells to farmers, etc), for two years. It’s $6 for a 40 lb bag. You could use a regular litter pan (without a bag), or a sifting pan set up (Arm and Hammer makes the most readily available one). Pee turns the pellets into sawdust, which, when you shake the pans, or move the whole pellets around, will fall through the holes to the pan below. Do not use a bag, unless you use one in the bottom pan.
    Edit: It is now Nov 2022. My cat decided he has delicate paws. So out with the pine pellets ☹️. After much experimenting, I found something we both agree on. PetCo makes SoFresh Grass Seed litter (no scent). It clumps beautifully, hides odors, and smells woodsy! The only negative is, of course, the cost: $18 for a 10 lb bag, which lasts about 15 days.

      How would you use a regular litter pan for pine pellets? :0

    • @TheLunarElixir
      @TheLunarElixir 2 роки тому +3

      @@celecha It's the opposite of scooping clumping litter - for pellets that dissolve into sawdust, you scoop up the litter and shake it over a bag to let the soiled litter in the form of sawfust fall through the slots. Then you pour the clean pellets back into the litterbox and dispose of the sawdust. Poop gets scooped like normal.
      It's much easier to use a sifting litterbox for pellets because you just need to stir the pellets to let all the sawdust fall to the bottom pan and you only need to pour out the sawdust about once a week.

      Been using pine pellets from tractor supply far over 10 years and I'm very happy with the results from it I recently started adding a product from TSC called "Sweet PDZ Stall Refresher Odor Eliminator - $12.99 / 25#s". It is excellent to absorb and neutralize ammonia odors. It suggested to sprinkle it at the bottom of a cleaned litter box and then place the litter on top of it. When using it I found it almost completely removes the smell of ammonia from the litter in the litter boxes. I use my litter scooper to remove the solids and then an old large serving spoon to remove the litter that's turned to saw dust that has absorbed a lot of ammonia in it. This method allows me to not have to sift the litter once it's turned into sawdust into another container. Cleaning my litter boxes now take least than 2 minutes each and after removing the solids and litter that's turned into sawdust and is very dark due to heavily absorbed urine i usually sprinkle in about 1 cup of Sweet PDZ into the remaining litter. Adding Sweet PDZ into my litter boxes makes the litter last longer and don't have to completely empty out the litter box as often as I used to.

    @NYCisland Рік тому +5

    Your negative comments for the pine litter is because you need a special scooper (wider slots) and a special litter box with holes to let the sawdust fall through. If you have that setup, it's extremely easy to clean, way better than traditional litter. One big problem is can be hard for many cats to get used to it because it's not the feel they're used to. Cats naturally like digging into a soft sandy material and this is the opposite. It's virtually no dust which is far better than any other litter. All those that say low/no dust are lying as they're all dusty.

Pine litter pellets absolutely need to be used with a sifting litter box, the only thing you should have to scoop out are the turds 💩, the urine dissolves into the pellets and turns them into wood dust that will fall through the sifting pan, all you would need is a pan liner to collect the wood dust and toss it weekly or every two weeks depending on how many cats you got or how often they pee. I have also tried worlds best a long time ago, but ended up like Smartkat better. I also hated the smell of that litter as well.
    I also tried Swheat scoop which I didn’t like just as much as world’s best. I think I used it longer than world’s best before I switched to Smartkat though.

    We tried World's Best and it is a good cat litter but the odor control is lacking. I would've said good for the garage but then it might attract mice and rats because of the corn. Haven't tried the pine scented or the lavender. It is expensive for $29 at the local pet store for 14 lbs.

      With corn or wheat type litters you absolutely have to keep the litter topped off. If the level gets too low, the urine will seep to the bottom of the pan and will eventually accumulate an odor.

    Pine pellets are great for humans but not so much for cats. Pellets are harsh on soft kitty paws. Do not get it if your cat is picky. Mine shat outside the box a few times even after a clean box. Then I switched the litter and voila, cat was using it again.
    The pine pellets are sharp, hard. You can try placing your palm on it and feel it.

    Thanks for sharing your feedback on these litters. I’ve seen Oko cat but I’m not sure if I ever used it. I’ve tried many over the years & loved tidy cats but then I started getting dr elseys and fresh 4 life so as of lately I’ve been wanting to get more natural litter. Then today I did some research on what is in litters that are not good for cats. The list so far is crystalline silica dust has cancer agents, chemical, preservatives, perfumes, sodium bentonite, phthalate can cause reproductive harm to not only cats but humans too.
    But I’ll be doing more research as well on the other ingredients & what they do that can harm animals etc so I can educate others about & what they could buy instead. But back then I thought when it says it’s the worlds best litter I thought I might as well give it a try. The smell was overpowering. It smelled like Noxzema. It was gross. Never again! I wrote down naturally fresh.
    There is other natural litters out there that are biodegradable, but I find it does not come in bigger bigger bags, but if it was does come close it’s not the size I normally get for a good price instead it’s quite expensive but many are very expensive. Again thanks for your review. 🥰🙏🏻♥️

      @@TheFunPop No matter what we should never ever do that. Do you know that is something that actually gives drastic negative effects to our universe. Almighty Creator would not allow this. We should never ever use food even if it is inedible, even if it is the very thick inedible rind of melon. It is a part of food bestowed upon us. Yes, the drastic is what they do. And many bad things to this world came because we mixed the waterways. the dirty toilet water goes together with the kitchen water to the same place. And in return we are sleeping while gathering all the evil that is coming on our society. Those who stay in flats or houses and cannot change this are bound to throw their water in the washbasin where else to throw. Even with the bins. Even if you separate the food in different bins and bags they still are thrown in the same heap. But we should still try what we can. My friend had thrown her childs nappy in the bin where kitchen rubbish was and I told her don't throw nappy with the food and she said to me for the rinds and rubbish that they are not food. She didn't understand. We have no respect to our world and nature. And this one is a great big step ahead of that. Yes may be they will mix and end up in the same place. But actions mean a lot. Trying what you can is important. They saw Lokman Hakim in our modern years in the meaning world and they asked why so much increase in sicknesses and its varieties. He answered that because we mixed the waterways. so think about mixing food scraps knowingly with litter. If we want the future not to be worse, we must stop this.
