    The thing that impresses me with these pickups is not only the diversity but how good in each position sounds. I'm hoping to pick up a set up soon

    Anyone curious about how these pickups would do in a mid grade Epiphone should check out Darrell Braun’s Ultimate Epiphone Challenge where he upgrades a relatively high end Epi (I.e. fancier wood) with these pups and correspondingly high grade electronics, then blind tests them against high end iconic American made guitars. I successfully identified the P-Rails in every test but one by choosing the sound I liked best. These really are pure genius.

      I just watched his two videos, which is why I’m here doing further research (though, his videos pretty much already sold me on these pickups). I have a similar Epiphone LP - mine is a clear, dark red over curly maple with black hardware, so the black P-Rails will blend in nicely. The only thing I’m torn on is whether to do the push-pull pots for switching modes, because I do plan to upgrade the pots, selector switch, and jack like he did, anyway, or to go with the Triple Shot mounting rings to open up more tonal combinations. I’m probably going to flip the pickups to put the rails on the outside of the pickups to try to eek out a little more of the Strat/Tele sound, too. All in all, I’m pretty excited about this.

      From what I've heard they are wonderful pickups. I too would be interested to know how they turn out with the rails on the outside. I'm torn on picking up an ESP or Epiphone for a similar build, but then I haven't touched my WIldkat in a month, so I really can't justify several hundred dollars to make a larger variety of unpleasant noises. My wife is unanimous about that. lol

      LOL. In all honesty, I had set my instruments aside for so long that I’m literally (and embarrassingly) having to relearn how to play them. As soon as I plugged the LP in to play it for the first time in a long time I was completely disenchanted and disappointed in the sound. That video with him doing the pickup and electronics upgrades in his Epi LP rekindled the fire for it, though. Funny thing is, I wasn’t even looking for a video like that, but I have been watching a lot of guitar and bass related videos lately and had just recently (like in the last few days) discovered his channel. I saw him doing a comparison of Strats with the Squire Strat he’d upgraded, then the upgraded Epi LP video popped up as a suggestion. I’d never even heard of those P-Rails before. What a game-changer!

      They will behave great in any decent guitar I'm sure as long as the pickups never find out they've been installed in a cheap guitar
      If they do find out they will quit working all together
      But there is no way any one person will ever be a decent player if the headstock indicates it's a budget priced guitar
      Budget priced guitar players automatically have to suck at playing
      Those are the rules! It just is!

      You look like the guy to ask; I hope you get this message.
      I have an electric 12 (Jay Turser JT-Hawk 12) made with crappy HBs and a mini-switch that's either a series/parallel or coil tap. I'm thinking about getting the set in this video to expand the otherwise underwhelming tonal variance. There are actually other problems with the guitar--suspected linear pots combined with cheap caps, what to do with that mini-switch if I get these pickups, etc.--but I have plans for these, so let's set those aside for a sec.
      In your experience, would this pickup set help such a guitar?
      BTW, I'm NOT looking to achieve or emulate any particular 12-string tones; I'm just trying to get a better selection of tones with pickups that complement this kind of guitar. This really looks like the set to get, and I can build on it from there.
      Thanks in advance!

      +Seymour Duncan Pickups Do you know when the information lost in the redesign might be restored to your website? Pickup specifications are incomplete (e.g. resonant peak specifications), and many wiring diagrams are missing. Speaking of which, the filters on the wiring diagram page are far too limiting.
      Do not get me wrong: I love the sound samples and the various methods of filtering and sorting the regular production pickups. In that regard, you have leapfrogged the DiMarzio website.

    4 combinations neck then 4 in bridge then 4x4=16 in middle for a total 24 coil combinations, then x3 for clean/crunch/lead to around 72 different tones he could demonstrate in a single demo, of course he did not do all of them. Sure guys who know each kind of pickup can appreciate this demo but I got lost :on so many options(

    • @Robstafarian
      @Robstafarian 8 років тому +6

      +Javier Aldan Series/parallel and phase reverse switches (I prefer reversing the neck like Peter Green to reversing the bridge like Jimmy Page) will enable 72 tonal options from the guitar itself, and the standard P-Rails sets produces a lovely growl when in series and out of phase (not much amp gain is needed). Having said that, I also added volume and tone bypasses to enable 288 tonal options (from a PRS SE 245, which I gave to my father).
      By the way, I prefer the P-Rails mounted with the Rails out (i.e. the Seymour Duncan logos upside down).

    Hi.
    I've owned P-Rails & Triple shots for some years now, and recently wondered if you would consider making some other versions.
    Have you ever thought of making the rail a 'lipstick' pickup for the neck position, or making the 'soap bar' a gold foil pup?
    Or, even pushing the boat out a bit and making the rail a mini minibucker?
    AND...
    Could you make some triple shots with four switches, so I can throw two of your single coil sized hummers in?

    • @seymourduncan

    Would these pickups work well in a metal context? I’m thinking of doing a modification to my Jackson Kelly where the neck pickup and bridge pickups are wired separately so I can get cleans out of the neck and switch to distortion on the bridge to not have to worry about channel switching.

    • @NOKnova
      @NOKnova 3 роки тому +1

      John Browne of Monuments has a mayones loaded with a set of these. I’d say you’re fine but you won’t be able to go from high gain to clean just with a coil split. Not sure there are many pickups out there that can do that without serious loss in volume and tone.
      In addition most modern metal high gain channels just compress too much to have any clean headroom.

    I resisted getting into the technicality of my guitars for years, but I have done one of my instruments some unjustice by never having played the guitar because I don't know how to operate its floyd rose bridge. Its a black 2002 Squier Showmaster. It's missing strings and its all dusty with everything still stock. I want to make a project out of this thing. But I'll need some help choosing my pick ups because I know next to nothing about them. I found Seymour Duncan because I'm taking inspiration from my favorite guitar player Mickey Melchiondo and he uses 1 set of hot rails on his Strat.
    This thing has 24 frets on a rosewood board, reverse headstock, super strat style layout with 1 humbuck and 2 times single row pick ups, with a Floyd Rose bridge. And it also has these 3 screws on top of the neck that lock the strings or something. I am buying a set of D'addario EXL110 nickle wound light strings to replace the current broken and old strings. I want to remove the humbuckers and the other two pick ups. I read that they are worthless. As for the humbuckers I found three options - which is what brought me to this video - : The Dimebucker, The Jupiter Rails & Hot P - Rails. Now I'm having a hard time choosing which one to go with and what to combine it with in terms of the other two pick ups. I have yet to even figure out what type of pick ups these two are. I am uncertain if I can throw in some strat model pick ups or if it need be tele pick ups. because there is a lot of open space around my current pick ups that seem to be share a baseplate shape like the tele pickups on the seymour duncan website.
    Some interesting pickups I found are the Custom Stack Plus Strat overwound. Custom/vintage staggered strat. I feel like any of these 3 could be paired up and put in combination with the Dimebucker.

    bought 2 sets of triple shot mounts 1 year ago - small switches on BOTH sets packed up today - yep same day!. Both contain SD JB/Jazz pups which are awesome. My fav would have to be my custom shop Pearly Gates - choice for blues. Will contact my Aussie supplier tomorrow - I wonder what the response will be. Cost over $100/set here - not impressed.

    Nice demo! I'd probably utilize it similar to what you've done here (heavier styles but a range of tones... minus your skill, haha). I play a Mesa Boogie though and if I really wanted to play some heavy, tight, dark crunchy stuff, can you dial that in with these? They seem a little fuzzy or flabby for lack of a better term. Thoughts?

    • @Aaron-zh4kj
      @Aaron-zh4kj 3 роки тому

      I'm trying to get the scoop on these as well in that regard. I get the impression, from all the demos I've heard, that in series humbucker mode on the bridge pickup, they behave like a higher output alnico humbucker. It's not going to behave like some mega high output modern metal pickup, but I get the impression it'd probably handle higher gain just fine (it doesn't at all, as a humbucker, seem like a low output vintage gibson humbucker or anything). Go to 1:12 to see what the humbucker in series sounds like

      I had a similar idea! I have an electric 12 for which I'm considering this ☝ set, but prior to seeing this video, I pondered combining lipstick pickups like the Danelectro 12s use with P90s. I think this set would probably suffice for my needs, although I'd probably like them in chrome or gold, so people ask me what the hell they are and I can tell them. 😀
