‘Warm By The Fire’, the mini-movie is a collaboration between Lloyd Cole and Canadian film maker Doug Arrowsmith from Feltfilm. It was filmed on the shores of Lake Ontario, and features an interpretive performance by dance artist Nyda Kwasowsky from the National Ballet School of Canada; the video is further punctuated by a handful of Toronto skaters and global riot footage, interspersed with Lloyd’s AI generated images of LA.
Says Lloyd Cole: “I wanted skateboards. Doug found Nyda. We’ve ended up with a dance interpretive of something which may or may not be happening.”
Says Doug Arrowsmith: “We were looking for a way to create a kind of game-like repetition of images at the core of the video, fuelled by Kwasowsky’s celebration of the insurgency. Lloyd is very fast - the entire thing was shot and delivered in just under a week. And can I just add…. I MEAN COME ON!! IT’S LLOYD COLE! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!? His music has been massive for me. I remember hauling hordes of people back to my place from a university party to make them watch Lloyd perform on the David Letterman Show. Thirty kids huddled around a TV in the dead of Canadian winter. Amazing. Different works for different seasons, the songs are crucial. Always will be.”
On 23rd June ‘23 Lloyd Cole will release his twelfth album as a solo artist. Entitled ‘On Pain’, it features eight new Lloyd Cole songs, four of which are co-written by Commotions founding members Blair Cowan and Neil Clark, who also perform on the record. The album is produced by Chris Merrick Hughes and was recorded in Lloyd’s attic studio The Establishment in Massachusetts.

Thank you MR COLE😊
One of the most underrated songwriters ever
I am 62 and Lloyd Cole was not underrated as a songwriter back in the mid 80's. Not at all. Perfect Skin was a brilliant short story and Lloyd was among the best writers of that era. Morrissey, Paddy MacAloon, Paul Buchanan. Cole was not slighted.
@@nope5445He didn't write that on his own though did he?
@@Rosskles Yes - he did.
@@floppyd0g Pretty sure there was someone else with writing credits for the album, or is it that specific song he wrote himself?
@@nope5445 But his first two solo records were great!! and ignored by the public and somewhat by writers. Listen to "No Blue Skies".
Album délectable.. Écouter Lloyd Cole aujourd'hui c'est comme retrouver un amour de jeunesse sur le parvis d'une cathédrale après 35 ans d'absence. 😎💯
Looking forward to seeing him at the Coventry cathedral later this year, his solo albums are superb he should be massive with the quality of songwriting
2:55 Yes!
This is like something David Brent would write 😂
-- I am a lifelong Lloyd Cole fan and I’m trying to get into this song, but it’s tough and the vocal barely sounds like his voice. At first, I didn’t even recognize the voice as being his. I do like this better than “Wolves” though. All that said, I do love and respect Lloyd forever. 😊❤️
Still going strong - saw him live in the National Stadium in Dublin in November 1987 - what a gig ! Big Dish were the support - that’s 36 years ago! 🙈🙈🙈
Great new song from Lloyd off his latest album. Went to see him live in concert on 14 December in Adelaide, South Australia. He was 100% solo. Just him and two guitars. Unfortunately he announced early in the show that he was sick but he’d carry on and do his best. It was a solid two hours show inc a 30 min interval. He played songs across his 40 year career. I’m sure there were some in the audience seeing him for the first time and who may not have known many of his earlier songs. Considering his sickness he played and sang beautifully even if he coughed and spluttered a few times in the middle of a few songs. The crowd was small but it was a pleasing show. We’ll done Lloyd for pushing through. I was hoping he’d have his band in the second half of the show but no, it was all solo. Oh well, maybe next time?
Fantastic, modern and actual. Great the brand new Lloyd Cole
💥❣️
❤ Super inspiration to Us in Covers From The Heart
I really love the last album Guesswork so this one comes as a bit of a shock to the system . Sounds great though, I love everything Lloyd does .
Guesswork was so loaded with cleverness
Fantastic
Brazil!
🔥❤🔥
Hey Rusty, my all time favourite saw the commotions at the Demontfort Halls, Leicester. Great night. Loving this song also! X
Begins with a line that summons the eighties and then it's a laundry list of things sensible people are cursed to notice but the hook is both affirmative of justified rioting and wickedly funny. It's what Lloyd does best.
noice old school vibe to it
Great music, amazing vocals and band with video !
Wow this,is,really good
Are these comments AI?
Wow! Love it! Pretty timely with what's going on in the world. ❤❤❤
If someone asked me about lloyd cole and wanted to know which to listen to first here would be my recommendations, from the commotions period, are you ready to be heartbroken, perfect skin, rattlesnakes, speedboat, patience,Charlotte street, lost weekend, brand new friend,30,hey rusty,my bag, from the hip, sean Penn blues,mr malcontent
Good list though I don't like Sean Penn or his blues. I would add his even more depressing stuff (well not to be but I guess others think that?) What do you know about Love?, No blue skies, Tell Your Sister, Jennifer She Said, Don't Look Back, Like Lovers Do, Don't Look Back, Weeping Wine, The One you never had.
One of the darker beautiful projects he has shared with us. Yes?
Thank you Lloyd. I still pull left with the golf club you sent me. It took me 2 listens to love this album. Great to see Blair and Neil doing such good work with you again (thank you for the personally signed album cover), looking forward to the tour.
We got dead television pyres
Scraping up to the sky
Monuments to our ingenuity
We got our mojo working
We got kerosene working
Behold the fruits of our industry
Behold the crystal night
Become the crystal day
Behold! The sidewalks are glistening
Flames rising
The law hides in fear
Cars burning
Mob surging near
It’s warm by the fire
It’s warmer by the fire
We got shopping carts filled
With Chanel and Dior
In keeping with the new order
We took control of the precinct
The whole of the precinct
In Gucci loafers and Prada
As we Segway through the smoking avenues
We are where it’s at
It’s a gas, gas, gas, gas
Flames rising
The law hides in fear
Cars burning
Mob surging near
It’s warm by the fire
It’s warmer by the fire
Oh, LA
There will be no respite
For the city of angels
No escape from the chill of the ice
But it’s warm by the fire
It’s warmer by the fire
This is the script I’m not writing
This is the scene I’m not in
This is the part I’m not reading
This is the pool I’m not in
These are the cards I’m not holding
This is the state I’m not in
This is the role I’m not playing
This is not who I am
Oh, LA
There will be no respite
For the city of angels
No escape from the chill of the ice
But it’s warm by the fire
It’s warmer by the fire
By the flames...
Talking about Antifa the other yr?
Mr Malcontent??.. Typical Lloyd 🙂
The lyrics have an intelligence, of a certain kind, but I find the melody and video utterly without charm.
The video is a wonderful mix of Skateboarding , VR headsets, Antifa riots and Yoga. The four most charming topics of the modern age.

And just like that, something different and compelling. Soooo good. Too me it's a new George Harrison record. .... Made me smile, like good art is supposed to...... Yes ,I am the walrus. No your not.
From his solo albums vin ordinaire, myrtle and rose,I am not willing, woman in the bar,how wrong can you be,my other life, period piece,no blue skies,he released a box set of outtakes, demos called cleaning out the ashtrays amongst many great songs is one called rained on the parade which is so good its criminal that it never made it onto any of his albums, give me lloyd over ed Sheeran any day
I find this utterly without charm

The song itself is... okay.
It's miles better than "Wolves" at least.
But the video is a DISASTER.
Flashing lights, flashing images, discomfiting dancing, inexplicable skateboarders...
Please, Lloyd -- never 'partner' with Doug Arrowsmith on any project ever again.
Oof!
Video's appalling.
The editing is nauseating.
Not heard anything by him for a few years, I would never have known this was by him, doesn't sound like his voice at all. To be honest, a real 'shrug' song, music by numbers and completely forgettable.
Love the whole album, but this is probably my least favourite track.
This takes me back
My least fave on a revisited album ❤
Utterly without charm
It shows intelligence, of a certain kind
@@MrOptimus321 I believe for one to like the music, you have to like Lloyd as a person. I didn’t like him
