I am trying to reprogram my brain into a brain that likes trying new things and failing while I do so, and I am dragging you along with me. This is my first time making EVA foam armor, and I do it perfectly, probably! Let me know if there's a craft I should do 100% correctly on my first try next!

Love the idea of people not knowing you’re a teacher and thinking you went back to kindergarten for fun
I didn't know she's a teacher. I just thought it was a joke about playing with glue
i knew but still wasn't quite certain
"If I don't do something perfectly the first try, I will give up forever" I'm looking into a mirror and I do not like this reflection
that's the adhd talking
this feels like we've had too much soda and we're up a little later than we should be at the sleepover, and we've decided to become perfect excellent foamsmiths overnight because what else would we do
With the Armor not closing in the back....simply add a cloak.
The gap is covered
The majesty is doubled
The witchy vibes are intensified
The cloak will make it look like the wings of a larger bird thus adding to the scarecrow thesis
I see no downsides
Alternatively (or in addition) she could glue a piece of ribbon (or multiple) to the inside of the back and tie it like it's a corset.
The reveal that you have 5 cats just makes me wonder how on earth you've been able to film for so long and only reveal a single one of them to us before this video.
literally what i was thinking THERES MORE?!
it made me wonder if I've actually seen more of them and just wasn't paying attention and assumed it was all the 1 cat
@@666Drazil Ngl before I commented I opened a new tab and quickly searched Haley's thumbnails to make sure it was the same cat (Hermes I believe?) I had been seeing.
The reveal that you have five cats makes me feel the same as the Once Upon A Time family tree recap at the start of the Season 2 video. A little shocked, maybe, but intrigued nonetheless and EXTREMELY delighted. Five?! FIVE?! Cats?!!!! You mean those tiny whisker demons?!!! Exquisite. I must keep watching to discover more.
Right?! I feel like we've only seen Hermes
I love you its not "Can I make armour on my first try?"
Its *"I can."*
Manifesting ✨
Unethical life pro tip: you can have your kindergartners cut out your cosplay and shape the eva foam for you and just say it’s learning shapes.
How I cackled reading this!! 😆
Ah yes every cosplayer needs their fair share of "I have never done this before, but surely I'll nail it anyway" and "fake it till you make it"
i have awful spacial awareness but really good directional instinct which feels wrong
no i'm the same way! i can always point out north, a skill which has never been useful
@@haleywhipjack in some languages instead of words for left or right u *have to* refer to the cardinal directions so maybe you were just born into the wrong language
Seeing the shop is kamui cosplay who has video tutorials on their youtube channel for a lot of their patterns makes the video extra adventurous
Hear me out: what if Jean's gold hat not only scares away birds, but also is enchanted to shine extra sunlight on the plants below her
I don't think I've ever related to anything more than exasperatedly saying "I forgot my own thesis."
you can add some ribbon/string to the back so you can tie it corset style, which has a few pros:
1. corsets are sexy
2. back will not be vulnerable in duels
cons: (or not?)
1. you will need a squire to tie it for you
the neurodivergent need to be immediately amazing at whatever you do or else you will abandon any hope of doing something ever again is so real
I had a brief confusing brain fart of a moment where I somehow forgot that products are sold and can be purchased by multiple people like “why does she have my roommate’s don’t talk to me until my death’s avenged mug, how can this be”
*chanting* WHIPJACK WHIPJACK WHIPJACK
a 45 minute video about Whipjack making armour???? what more could a girl want
This is just an isolation of the battle between impulse control vs. the sudden hyperfixative urge to create and I needed it.
This has given me therapy, it is understand myself and giving me seratonine.
this is 40min of ADHD hyperfixation, "If I don't master this I'll kill everyone and then myself", "I might be a genius", "I'm an absolute moron" and "how hard could it possible be", on loop
Knowing how that attempt of a triangle cone was going to turn out did not make it less enjoyable to watch 😂
The reveal that there are FIVE cats and not just the one lovely needy one that's shown up in the video essays is blowing my mind right now
“Whatever bugs in my brain make it so if I don’t do something perfectly the first time I try it, I will give up forever.”
🔘 I’m in this picture and I don’t like it.
ADHD/autism gang unite!
14:59 “I’m an ✨inNoVAtoR✨” has me dead 😭
It's kinda giving Dorthy meets Wicked Witch meets dnd character
As a fellow cat parent: sparrow and lark are EXCELLENT thematic cat names. 10/10 no notes.
I create (mostly palm-sized) paper figures of game characters. Watching the odyssey of "Lady tries to comprehend shapes with depth" was entertaining as hell and I am looking forward to this getting a sequel hopefully.
Having struggled through making a witch’s hat without the ability to print out patterns, when you said “How hard can it be to make a cone?” I immediately knew the suffering you were about to endure. Godspeed
Lark and Sparrow... like from Dungeons and Daddies?!
yeah
The shop you got your patterns from also have a UA-cam channel dedicated to cosplay tutorials and how tos
Haley has such silly vibes I love it. There is so many things I want to quote from the video but my favorite quote has to be "Being alergic to how your brain functions." that had me dying laughing and also relatable too!
"If I don't do something perfectly the first try, I will give up forever"
*I'm in this picture and I don't like it*
“I love a silly thing that’s on my head” she’s living her mad hatter era. ‘Once upon a time’ is taking over 🙃.
Adam Savage taught me that doing several really thin coats of paint, even if they don't cover everything, will always look better than 1-2 thick coats of paint
18:52 Is that a "DON'T EVEN TALK TO ME UNTIL MY DEATH'S AVENGED" FHSY D20 mug?? I'm so jealous rn
Locked Tomb books spotted in the background
One Flesh One End
I came to the comments section to see if anyone else had noticed, and lo and behold :)
@@addamii I came to see if anyone else noticed and found one of my fave TLT fanartists, look at that
@@cotteredwards3498 aww hey thanks!
Whipjack is too relatable 😭 stop calling me out in almost everything
I noticed you have Nona the Ninth in the background! Nothing would make me happier than seeing you try to explain the plot. If you’re ever looking for a new video idea something related to the Locked Tomb would be fun! For me at least
I find it so fascinating that i think i work opposite to you in 3d space. It is like a soothing process for me to imagine shapes moving snd changing in 3 dimensions. Where i strugle is verbally conceptualizing or visualizing descriptions. If you describe a shape to me thats just a little to complex, i completely shut down because i cant imagine it
Wont lie, the garden witch outfit could be useful when you eventually get to once upon a time season 7 when a different vibe of garden witch is the main antagonist
21:24 as it was going i was like “wouldn’t it need to follow the angle of the hat? Nah haley has it”
she did not lmao
I struggle with starting things cause I expect immediate perfection out of myself, so I never even begin to try. I'm slowly getting better at it and seeing you try is giving me some needed motivation.
The constant struggle between “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well” and “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing poorly”
How absolutely cute would a corset back be???
Y'know there are so many wicked skilled cosplayers and costume makers and crafters posting their best stuff online; it's actually so encouraging, inspiring, and joyous to see someone first diving into a new medium. Keep it up!
As a crafter, we call bleeding on foam is just called "free weathering"
11:14 OMG FANTASY HIGH MUG???
7:07 was SO relatable I had to rewind it and show it to my partner, who started laughing hysterically because I too have no spatial reasoning, am covered in mystery bruises from walking into stuff, and frustrate the shit out of him trying to play portal 2 together
oh i was just thinking yesterday that i really wanted to watch one of your videos, i’m so glad you’ve posted (not that i’m above re-watching every single video 100 times anyways, but you know)
I love the fact that you went "surely if i cut two triangles and make them kiss itll turn into a cone" and my brain immediately went "are you gonna make the triangles round at the bottom? Bc otherwise thats not gonna do what you think its gonna do-".
Also ngl, as a wannabe crafter the whole idea of "surely this is gonna work exactly how i want it to on the first try" is so relatable lol
If you ever work with eva foam again, i would highly recommend using contact cement. You let it dry 100% first, and then it sticks to itself. Also, when putting foam pieces together make sure you connect the darts in the middle first, then working slowly each way, connect the darts together and worry about connecting the foam in between each dart after they've been lined up. It is supposed to bend like that, but you can also cut your edges so that they're at an angle, and then they'll line up better when being glued.
Kamui cosplay has many videos on here about working with eva foam as well if you're ever stuck and need some advice!
Sorry for the long rambling comment, happy crafting 🥰🖤
i feel like you can absolutely make a cool wig on your first try. really go all in on those cosplay skills first :]]
I know this won’t make sense for most people but seeing Nona in the backround is like a cold shower you knew was comming but still wasn’t prepeard for
Haley is my absolute comfort UA-camr all my friends are funky little guys and seeing a funky little guy talk about something they’ve been thinking about forever for 5 hours is probably the best thing ever. I don’t expect this video will get a lot of views in comparison to the others but I hope Hailey keeps making this series so he can keep doing thing they normally wouldn’t do and that’s awesome
The golden underside of hat strikes me more like "I can provide sunlight for my garden at any time of day, in any kind of weather".
Your joy at Made A Thing has helped remind me why Make A Thing is such a good way to feel less sad. Thank you
I'm obsessed with your chaotic energy and tbh if you were my teacher I'd 100% be ready to take on anything.
Aaaaa! Thank you so much for showing us Jean the Green! How unhinged and excited you get while creating things is so validating and fills me with so much joy
The sheer positivity and enthusiasm that you have in your videos in absolutely magnetic
I can’t believe two of my favourite UA-camrs released a video about making armor on the same day! Also I’m so glad to find out your a dropout fan I have been hyper fixated on them for the past few weeks
3 seconds in:
No whiteboard!
I'm confusedand scared.
Please send cat!
I'm so excited for this video, I simply cannot even
As a person who also has the perfectionist goblin in my brain, I vibe with this video so much. Currently working on a quilt, the first I've ever done, and it has been a process!
But i'm enjoying the process of creating it so much, that it makes the making of it so fun.
If you want an easy way to close the gap in the back, you could lace it up! Either buy a grommet kit, or just stab holes in it with a big needle (works too, but it's less strong so be careful putting too much stress on them!) You might need a second person to tighten the laces, but with laces the back gap looks like an Intentional Design Decision to have corset armor!!
How is it that literally every video you make is something I have never asked for but is exactly what I want and need
Mythical mention w that very important people line 😭😭
that haley really does whip jack
that jean really does green
I am really enjoying this, and the cats are making it absolutely transcendent
"I just have to make two triangles and and make them kiss". Tell me you don't teach geometry in kindergarten without telling me you don't teach geometry in kindergarten. 😂😂
Whipjack's creative process makes me feel so seen and understood
I love this!! I'm only 16 min in and watching you discover the joys of curving hard pieces to fit each other makes me so happy - you're doing amazing!!!!
This is such crazy timing, because I am also in the middle of making my first EVA foam armour, and I was watching your OUATIW recap while I was cutting the pieces. I even got my patterns from the same shop. You did great!
haley: im gonna just cut triangles and wrap them into a cone
me: oh no
haley: oh no
As soon as you said you were gonna use two triangles to make the cone, I laughed out loud because I’ve been there and done that more than once 😂
a video from haley is ALWAYS a delight!! this set off every adhd bug in my brain likkeeeee what if i just ordered foam tomorrow you know..... i mean how hard can it be.....
i straight up applauded at my screen like three times watching this video. I'm so impressed!! you did it! on your first try!
You have such a great energy for a creative video like this. I so desperately NEED more of this
I'm pretty sure the shelves are supposed to also be glued together, but honestly Haley is having too much fun with them as is so they're petals now
I recommend double checking how to use your contact cement. All the ones I've ever used tell you to apply it to both pieces separately, let them dry until it's just tacky when you touch it, then squeeze the parts together. It should also help with pieces that come together at a curve, since you can work your way along the edge.
You bbring a lot of unhinged energy to the table, and I love it
This series is everything I need DO IT AGAIN
Yaaaaaaaay armorsmithing! As a mandalorian i love this craft
Love the contents of your bookshelves! Ann Leckie deserves more love!
This is fun, I like this.
This was an emotional roller-coaster
Oh this was SOOO fun, now we need more first tries for Jean the green, i'm picturing the birds 🤔
This is all so wonderful!!
You could add some tie-under-the-chin ribbons to the hat so it doesn't fall off! It would even fit the vibe of Jean the Green!
I just want to say this video genuinely inspired me to order some Eva foam and fabric and attempt to make my own Halloween costume for this year (I'm 24 now and i have not touched a sewing machine since i was about 14-15 in home ec class) and truly through the power of Crafting I am now more powerful and possible, unstoppable? Either way wonderful video 100/10.
Adorable black void beast make brain happy
Incredible.
As an answer to the final question: crochet. Nothing is more powerful than whipping up a present the night before you need one.
Okay I’m finna watch this at work. You a real one 🤞🏾
This is so so delightful please keep doing crafts
This is a great series idea.
i absolutely adore you
I am delighted at your new video but I am salivating over when your next once upon a time video comes out.
I really enjoyed this content. Great vibes.
I know it is way off topic, but I love seeing The Inheritance Games, Ninth House, Chain of Gold and Legendborn on the shelves :)
A new haley whipjack video just for me on my birthday?? It's just what I wanted!!
I love everything about this video
good job haley may thy skills continue to exceed thy expectations
You have inspired me in a way i cannot deal with, i do not have the space for a new project, i do not have the materials or money for a new project, i do have the time, but none of the other parts. How dare you, also i love every part of this video - from the chaos to the actually really cool armour for a first time craft - like thats awesome
